Two Thai soldiers left one leg each on Cambodian soil

Landmines wound Thai soldiers on Cambodian border

Mon Oct 6, 2008

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Two Thai soldiers stepped on landmines along the Cambodian border on Monday, the army said, three days after a brief exchange of fire near the disputed 900-year-old Preah Vihear temple.

The army rangers, each of whom lost a leg, were patrolling on Thai territory and stepped on the mines only 400 metres (430 yards) from where soldiers from both sides clashed on Friday, Colonel Sirichan Ngathong told Reuters.

"We don't know whose mines they were, but we have dispatched a mine expert to check out the area," she said.

Phnom Penh said the mines, believed to have been laid years ago by the Khmer Rouge, were on Cambodian soil.

Bangkok and Phnom Penh have accused each other of unprovoked aggression in Friday's contact between two border patrol units in which two Thais and one Cambodian were wounded.

It was the first clash since the two sides agreed in August to withdraw most of the 1,000 troops that had been facing off for a month near the historic Hindu ruins that sit on the jungle-clad escarpment dividing the countries.

Sompong Amornvivat, Thailand's fifth foreign minister in a year, told reporters he would discuss the issue with his Cambodian counterpart next Monday during a visit to Phnom Penh by Thai Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat.

"I plan to talk to my counterpart in great detail during the visit and hope to end this misunderstanding," Sompong said.

The two countries agreed in July to find a peaceful end to the spat, which centres on 1.8 square miles (4.6 sq km) of scrub near the temple.

The argument started when protest groups seeking to overthrow the Thai government criticised Bangkok's backing of Cambodia's bid to list Preah Vihear as a U.N. World Heritage site.

Tensions have eased considerably since Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen's victory in late July in a general election in which the temple, and nationalism, featured heavily.

Both sides have claimed Preah Vihear for decades. The International Court of Justice awarded it to Cambodia in 1962, and the ruling has rankled in Thailand ever since.

= What do you know after three bilateral talks and the Thai leaders still claim misunderstanding! I want to know what misunderstanding? The fact is the Thai refuse to understand the seriousness of the Cambodia-Thai border conflict because they kept betting that their military would prevail over Cambodian military in ending the border dispute! In addition, the Thai leaders think that they can force the map of the cold war down Cambodian leaders' throat which was drawn up with the help of "American technical assistance" and they are so wrong!

Today world are far more dangerous than the day of the cold war! The Thai leaders with their cold war mentality will be defeated!

12:30 AM, yes it made me laugh off my chair too "Put the legs on ebay". I am sorry for those thai soldiers who were stationed there under pressure of their stupit greedy government who does not know how to distinguish white from black. Greedy on swallowing neighbors land. Back off your black squids out of khmer temples and territory. Down a Siames! You can have what you get, don't grab more. It is not your time now. Keep whatever you have, otherwise you would face with separatists to separate Khmer speaking provinces to join current khmer empire. Good that you realised you provoked the fire at Phnom trop otherwise khmers will keep cher mray a thais till end of the world.
Gods bless Cambodia!

Hun Sen and his cronies make a lot of noise when Thai wants a piece of Cambodia land, but they're very quiet when Hanoi steel Khmer land in the day time. His government secretely gave a lot of land to Hanoi.

These two Siem soldiers are intruding Khmer territory. How can they claim we intrude them when they stepped on Khmer land mines?. These two countries can't be trusted at all, but Ah Khmer Pleu in the country still love Srey Youn and Ah Hun sen. All they think every day to fuck Srey Youn and give them a piece of land every time they fuck them.

Sorry for my language. Let not to worry about Khmer anymore. Ignore them because that's the way they want to be in. They voted for Hun Sen in power. Let them suffer and who care. We fed up with this government, but nonething we can do. Only sit and watch for Khmer to disappear from this earth. At least I still have the country to call home "America" Home Sweet Home. This is the country that I need to defend, not Cambodia.

Even Sam Rainsy don't stand his ground. He changed his mind to join Hun Sen in Auguaration. So who can Cambodia people trust? Nobody for now.

Don't reply if you disagree with me.

God bless America.

Hanoi steals what land? There is no such thing. Nobody messes with PM Hun Sen. They may messes with the past Kings and Queens by taking chunks of the country, but they will not do that with PM Hun Sen, and they know it too.

Youn did not steal Khmer Krom directly, but khmer king was offered konsrei sdach youn. later on Sdach Youn borrow that Dei Sandor to be a training field for youn military to fight with China, and never gave that back to us. The khmer kings later on tried to seek protectorate from France in order to get our land back to Cambodia, unfortunately France put khmer under its colony and then what, chopped off our land: Kampuchea Krom given to Youn and several provinces given to Thai and we also lost some small part to Lao. That's why we have what we get now. Don't loose it more, kon khmers! Protect what we have. Khmer blood.

You are derailing the topic Yanke-3:53am. Thanks God you wish to step out the boundary of Khmer issues, where you have been belong to since the birth, and happy to call America your home. Nothing to blame, but wishing you well and happy.

I am also an oversea Khmer. But I am different. I would never abandon the place I used to shit on since I was born. That is the reason. I have been allowed to live in a better place just because I am Khmer. The more I am peaceful living here, the more I have sympathy to Khmer compatriots in my homeland. The truth is that it doesn't matter what Cambodia is going to look like, good or bad, it ramains home to me forever. Whatever I can give, I do and will give at my best. I think I would share that idea with the majority of people in this forum.

I do not disagree with you about Hun Sen. But the thing annoying me is when you are saying Khmers in Cambodia deserve to suffer because they vote for Hun Sen. In this case, I would say it is not the end of the world where Hun Sen is in power. I am not frustrated with that and hope remains, and Cambodia will be prosperious.

I am always happy to answer to any questions you want to ask.

You are one ignorant mother f$&ker that I've come across thus far. And the very sad thing is.... you were once my fellow country men. You're the reasons behind this other Khmer guy who alway's trash talking about us Khmer-Oversea.
I just can't come to terms how stupid one can be while living in the land of opportunity. I expect a little common sense and knowledge,... if any. I take it, you didn't learn a god damn thing..... did you?
There is no sense in preaching you about politic as your half pint brain is probably deluted with toxic fume.
Last, you are no different that those of Hun Sen; ah Khmer k'bot jiat! Bhan t'mey, plit juss! I welcome your rebuttal, anytime! Hopefully, you don't ruboff your stupidity on to me.

6:19, I'm with you my brother!

I say we bring those limbs to the ICJ, as these are crucial evidence of the Thais encroachment to Khmer territory. Can't say we don't have any evidence?
I think the Thais tried to steal our land mine too, but they don't know how to defuse it. Lmfao!!!

Cambodia will always be my home no matter where I was, am and will be.

No land under this sky is more beautiful than my Cambodia!

Hi, 3:53! Seems like you got only two replies. Well, I got another one for you.... I think you haven't studied much, did you? Or, did you go to high school? Well, I think human beings don't need to go to high school to love their country...So,..what are you? it took years to win cold war. It's not gonna happen in just a few days... Hun Sen was the one who counted the ballots; he has guns, power, so even the whole pop vote for Sam Rainsy, do you think Hun Sen would let Sam Rainsy win? There is always hope for the change, but it'll take time. Oh, sorry, perhaps you don't understand it because it's just too hard for you. by the way, do you fuck American girls often? I think you should reduce your sexual appetite with them, because you become more like an American's dog everytime you fuck with them. So don't be late, now that you still Khmer people,...don't let yourselve become US's dog, ok. Oh, one more thing, if you become a dog, just don't bite your owner, ok. Yeah..be good puppy!

6:19, 930am,..seem like there's sth fun going on. Hope to see your futher comments! :)

Right on my brother! I think this dog..... given the opportunity, it will not hesitate to bite it's owner. Remember, it has no problem abandoning it's original breed.
Although, I am begining to suspect that he (3:53) is nothing but a model's of Ah Thai/Youn specimen. Nevertheless, I hope he's abide by the American law; otherwise, if the U.S should deport him,....... what country is willing to accept a piece of trash like that! LOL
