[How much patience does Cambodia need?]

Thailand and Cambodia will hold border talks next week followed by a meeting of foreign ministers in a fresh attempt to resolve the land border dispute.

The Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) has been set for Monday and Tuesday in Siem Reap, and the disputed 4.6-square-kilometre area surrounding Preah Vihear temple is high on the agenda, foreign affairs spokesman Tharit Charungwat said yesterday.

Mr Tharit said patience was needed. An agreement could not be expected overnight, despite the best intentions to resolve the problem through bilateral negotiations.

"I'm glad both sides have agreed to bilateral talks, but we all must exercise restraint because many rounds of talks can be expected," said Mr Tharit.

Field survey teams from both countries may be going to the borders during the talks, he added.

Both countries claim sovereignty over the disputed area. Thailand says it is in Kantharalak district of Si Sa Ket, but Cambodia insists it is part of its Preah Vihear province.

The JBC meeting comes after parliament last week approved a negotiation framework with Cambodia.

Vasin Teeravechyan, the retired Thai ambassador to South Korea, heads the Thai team to the JBC meeting. He yesterday attended the preparatory meeting at the Foreign Ministry.

The Cambodian side is led by Senior Minister Var Kim Hong.

Mr Tharit said Foreign Minister Sompong Amornvivat and his Cambodian counterpart Hor Namhong will meet on Nov 12 in Siem Reap after the JBC forum.

He said Cambodia may also raise other disputed areas, such as Ta Muean Thom and Ta Kwai temples, during the ministerial talks, as it had previously intended to at the last meeting in August.

Shut the fuck up Bangcock Post garbage piece of shit! Cambodian leaders had always insisted on peaceful bilateral talk since the beginning of the border conflict! Why does it take so long for the Thaicong leaders to realize that only through peaceful bilateral talk that they can find everlasting peace? But the fact is the Thaicong leaders are so itching to test out their million dollars big guns and jet fighters and show of force against dirt poor Cambodia! If the Thaicong leaders are not careful and this border conflict will turn into the fourth Indochina War!

The Thaicong leaders are soon to forget about the history of Indochina and if they know any better and they better learn from history!

Are you sure about that mother fucker? Maybe your mother fucker needs to recheck the map of 1904 which your Thai leaders help drew the map with the French! The Thai leaders can't just draw a new map every century!

By the way do the Khmer people in Thailand have the same right as the Thai people? In fact the most disadvantages and the poorest among all ethnic in Thailand are the Khmer people! The Khmer people are being disenfranchised by the greater Thai society economically, educationally, and politically!

Dear All,

THE CAMBODIAN GOVERNMENT MUST BE CAREFULL IN SUCH AN IMPORTANT MEETING WITH THE THAIS.

ACTUALLY, THERE IS NO NEED TO TALK MUCH WITH THE THAIS, AS THAT DISPUTE WAS ALREADY SETTLED ONCE FOR ALL IN 1962 BY THE INTERNATIOANL COURT OF JUSTICE (ICJ).

THE IMPORTANT THING IS THAT THE THAIS MUST OBEY THE ICJ'S ORDER, AND THEN THERE IS NO DEPUTE.

PRIME MINISTER HUN SEN,

YOU MUST TAKE YOUR WIN-WIN STRATEGY IN THIS CASE, NO MATTER HOW TRICKY THE THAIS ARE.

DO NOT (NOT) MAKE ANY LAND CONCESSION LIKE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE TO VIETNAM.

IT IS TIME YOU SHOW YOUR REAL KHMER'S SPIRIT.

YOU MUST BE A STR0NG MAN BY SPIRIT, NOT ONLY BY NAME.

Let's look at a small piece of fact, and find out who is the invader.

The Cambodian ownership of the temple and the surrounding areas, deemed disputed by Thailand, has been settled once and for all by The International Court of Justice (ICJ)’s verdict. And that verdict has vindicated the Cambodian claims and render justice to the 1907 treaty. The court adjudicated that:

1. "the Temple of Preah Vihear is situated in territory under the sovereignty of Cambodia;"

2. "Thailand is under an obligation to withdraw any military or police forces, or other guards or keepers, stationed by her at the Temple, or in its vicinity on Cambodian territory"

3. "Thailand is under an obligation to restore to Cambodia any objects of the kind specified in Cambodia's fifth Submission which may, since the date of the occupation of the Temple by Thailand in 1954, have been removed from the Temple or the Temple area by the Thai authorities.": ICJ Reports 1962, p. 36, 37.

The second judgement of the court was crystal clear that Thailand is under the obligation to withdraw all its forces from the temple or from “its vicinity on Cambodian territory”. As the court’s judgements were based on the maps of the 1904 and 1907 treaties, the issue of the ownership of the temple and “its vicinity” has been resolved, as the maps of the 1904-1907 treaties placed both the temple and “its vicinity” inside Cambodia.

Thailand has long claimed that Franco-Siam treaty of 1904-1907 has always been in favour of Cambodia to the detriment of Thailand’s territorial integrity. The same was said by Cambodia, as evident by king Sisowath’s letter of protest to the French Governor in 1906. King Sisowath demanded the return of all Khmer provinces occupied by Siam by which he said “We insist on the former natural limits of the Khmer Kingdom which, prior to the Siamese invasion, included on Siam’s side the provinces of Battambang, Siem Reap, Stung Treng, Tonle Ropov, M’lou Prey, Kuckhan [currently known as Sisaket], Prey Sar, Soren [Surin], Sankeac [Sangka], Neang Rong, Nokoreach Seima (Korat), beyond the Phnom Dangrek Mountain, Koh Kong, Krat and Chantabor (Chantaboun [Chantaburi]) touching upon Bacnam and the Kingdom of Champassac (Passac). All these provinces are still populated by Cambodians and they preserve their absolute Khmer patriotism.”

Why bother talking about this border when you're going to fight soon anyways. Hun Xen is preparing his Vietnamese dog army already. The master in Hanoi want this war....go join them Cambodians and die for your what ever nation it is.

Why CPP don't say nothing about the PARIS Peace Agreements Oct.23 1991 ? (never celebrate )
Why Thai don't respect this agreement even he was a commitee signing ? and Vietnam be as well ?

The reason is Khmer people must be lost everything among the 2 agressors...only Hun Xen as a winner(regarding to his WIN WIN strategy.)
