SIEM REAP, Cambodia (AFP) — Poor countries must use trade as a tool to survive the financial crisis gripping richer nations, Cambodia's premier told a meeting of officials from developing countries Wednesday.Trade ministers and representatives from nearly 50 nations under the Least Developed Countries grouping gathered for two days of talks in Cambodia's northwestern tourist town of Siem Reap.
Opening the meeting, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said the world's poorest nations were already suffering "a strong trade barrier", with tariffs and strict controls hampering their access to world markets.
With richer governments now suffering from the credit crunch, they may also cut foreign aid, investment and imports, he said.
Hun Sen called on the grouping to find ways to work together to expand exports and attract foreign private capital to help develop their countries.
"Although the world is facing the current financial crisis we must ensure a transparent, stable and feasible business climate," Hun Sen said.
World Trade Organization director general Pascal Lamy told officials at the meeting that the trade deal was now more important than ever to help poor countries.
"There is a strong sense that we are all on the same boat and that we must act and coordinate together if we are to lift ourselves," he said, according to an official transcript of his remarks.
He said the international community needed to keep in mind "the interests of its poorest and weakest members and deliver on the promises" of more and better development aid.
The financial crisis will "no doubt have profound, and possibly prolonged, effects" on poor countries, he said.
A statement from the UN Industrial Development Organization and the WTO, which jointly organised the conference, said the talks should focus on speeding up trade reform in poor countries.
The Doha round of WTO negotiations is also slated to be discussed in Cambodia on Wednesday and Thursday, the statement said.
Attempts to hammer out a global trade pact have repeatedly broken down as the world's poorest nations and economic powers trade blows.
Developing countries have been pressing for greater access to agricultural markets in the industrialised world. Developed nations are in return seeking a better deal for their manufactured products in developing markets.
Lamy said on Monday in Geneva that negotiators must redouble their efforts to conclude a new trade deal by the end of the year.

The barrier that the poor countries are unable to enter into the world trade market because those poor country leaders don't care about their countries and its people, but for themselves and their families.
As for cambodia, what do cambodia have to bring to the world market?. The forest and the fish are gone forever.
The other option is educated young children with a new idea of making new product offer to the world market. Since cambodian school system is a joke for giving diploma and PhD without attending school this idea is dead for now.

There is not much of a way out. Obama will tax the company that are leaving the US. That means business will dry up for Cambodia as well as others. I went through many wars in Cambodia. I recently go to visit my family there many times. I know how it is over there. I think the education system in Cambodia in better than the US in way that if we compare Hun Sen and Bush. Hun was born during the turmior time, and grew up without proper education, but he could learn was so amazing, even those educated in the France and US still be placed under his control irrespective what methods he use that other couldn't copy and beat him.
Bush on ther hand was educated in the US university but he has not achieved his policy of beating down the Muslim, but rather he is bringing in an enomous credit cruch for the US.
Which is the better? The simple reason is if one was placed in extremely difficult situation he will try harder to fight back and motived and vice versa.
Don't forget that many of us had also come across those difficult time, so I believe that many of you are now work harder than those white in the US.

The remains from the crashed that presumably claimed to be Gen. Hok Lundy was not him, it was someone else. Gen. Hok Lundy is now in hidding for political reason. Also, the army general is in hidding for the same reason. The persons, however, that I have sympathy for were the pilots and passengers.
Sending their kids to the US is for the purpose to get a security of living.
Study abroad is to learn the different culture. bringing the culture and mimic on it as superiority will only jeopardise the country identity. This was what the KR leadership had done.

Can you just give a straight and simple answer? Is it, or is it not that Cambodia's educational system is better than the US system?
Did Pol Pot, Khieu Sampahan, Ieng Sary, use the education (elotronic, engineering, and economics) that they learned in France to commit the killing field policy? Or, was it just their own radical world view? You painted everything with just simple brush stroke, that is not really the answer to the question why that guy said US education is as not good as Cambodia's.
