Hun Sen lashes out at former PM Pen Sovann

"I only face those who know history, those who have good manners, those who are grateful, then I respect and praise them, but for me to talk to the likes of him, he has mental problem or crazy, but that’s his illness, I am not replying back" - Pen Sovann
Prime minister Hun Sen attacked a 7-January VIP, saying that the latter lied and distorted the truth when he stated that he (Hun Sen) was his subordinate during the liberation struggle from the Pol Pot regime.

Hun Sen said: “There is a guy who claimed to be the father of 2-December and 7-January. He said that I am his foot soldier. This guy (using derogatory “Ah noeung”) was making noise in Phnom Penh the other day, I saw him saying that he is the father of 7-January and 2-December. Since mid-1977, I was the biggest leader on the eastern shore of the Mekong River, I already built up a lot of troops, so there was nobody bigger than me. This guy, by what I know, he was a lieutenant in the Vietnamese army only, and he pretended to be my boss, and he made noise through the Fly nest or Beehive radio station. Now, I want to send a message to this fellow: be moderate will you? If you lie, be moderate in your lie, give a decent lie. I don’t need to provide his name, but in Khmer he is called the liar-in-chief.”

Hun Sen made this lashing during a diploma distribution ceremony for students at the Vanda Institute which was held at the Pedagogy University in Phnom Penh on the morning of 22 December.

Even though he did not reveal the name of the person whom he lashed out at, he admitted that this fellow told the truth when he claimed that Hun Sen was the one who arrested him and sent him to prison in Vietnam.

Hun Sen added: “He told the truth on one point only: when he said that I arrested him at his house. You told the truth on this point only. (It was) I with Ta (Grandpa) Say Bou Thang – at that time, I was the vice-PM and minister of Foreign Affairs – (who made the arrest). It was because we can’t talk to each other anymore, and at that time, I did not arrest him so I can take the position, it was H.E. Chan Si who became the prime minister.”

According to Cambodian history, Pen Sovann was the former PM of the Phnom Penh regime installed by the Vietnamese in 1979.

Nevertheless, Pen Sovann, who is currently the president of the HRP rule committee, did not provide any reaction to Hun Sen’s lashing. However, he raised the following question instead: “I am telling the ordinary people, including monks, civil servants, and the government, even foreign and local journalists came to ask me for my reaction. I told them that I will not reply to those who falsify history, those who do not understand Khmer history. If you want the truth, I ask TVK for one hour to broadcast once again 2-December and 7-January documents that I now have. So, let TVK broadcast the original documents of 2-December and 7-January, and let it show the images of who said what, let (the people) look at them. I only face those who know history, those who have good manners, those who are grateful, then I respect and praise them, but for me to talk to the likes of him, he has mental problem or crazy, but that’s his illness, I am not replying back.”

Nevertheless, Pen Sovann provided information on how he met Hun Sen: “The Khmer Rouge sent him (Hun Sen) to attack Vietnam, but Vietnam fought back and they destroyed all of the KR. When he (Hun Sen) returned back, Pol Pot, his boss, wanted to kill him, then he fled to Vietnam. The Vietnamese were angry, they said that he brought KR troops to attack them along the border in Song Bea province, and the Vietnamese arrested and jailed both him (Hun Sen) and Ung Phan. It was him (Hun Sen) who told me that Vietnam jailed him, at that time, I was preparing to form the Front and I asked to meet with Le Duc Tho, and I told Le Duc Tho not to send him (Hun Sen) to tough jail yet because I was trying to gather important people to form a front at that time. I was teaching politics for the front at the Vietnamese Army Unit no. 7 barrack.”

Pen Sovan is a patriot who though and think for the nation while other are just bandits and opportunists who just think for their dick. The dick policy worked well with the vietnamese, that's why Pen Sovan was kick out very fast...

Hun Sen you liar! Stop twisting story around, first you tell people that you were a regular foot-soldier then you tell people that you were big-boss. If you were such a big person during that time, maybe you should face the KR tribunal bitch. But then again you will no doubt twist the story and tell people you were just a foot-solder again.

Pen Sovan is the real nationalist liberator who saved Khmer from Pol Pot. He saw what the Vietnamese were planning after the liberation and was jailed in Vietnam for 10 years for speaking out. Atleast he isn't a Vietnamese slave like this coward Hun Sen.

Hun Sen need to keep on sucking hanoi cocks til the day he die.

if he have any man in him, he need to do the right thing and stop twisting story after story.

as human, we all get scared, but to be scared and oppresses his own people is just plain cowardness.

I suggest Mr. Pen Sovann release the documents to KI or any other news media to the public so the truth can come out.

HUN SEN think he is the best and disregard anyone else Cambodians to be higher than him, but the Vietnamese.

I would praise him if he is truly a leader for all of us.

Hun Sen is the liberator of all Khmer in Cambodia.

Anonymous said...

The statement of Prime Minister Samdec Decho Hun Sen to the effect that "Since mid-1977, I was the biggest leader on the eastern shore of the Mekong River, I already built up a lot of troops, so there was nobody bigger than me" shows clearly and convincingly that he was a senior Khmer Rouge leader and therefore that he was responsible for the attrocities that occurred in that area of Cambodia in that period. I would like to invite the ECCC to charge Prime Minister Samdech Decho Hun Sen with crimes against humanity forthwith.

Up to now i thought CHEA SIM and HENG SAMRIN were the leaders during those days, and now HUN SEN proclaimed that it was he.I wonder how those two felt about this ?.

Pen Sovann'story :

When I arrived I saw 12 tanks encircle my house. There were T54 of the Soviets and M113 of the Americans, and all bodyguards guarding my house were new people. And, I felt that I got suspected. I did not know why; I did not know what happened at all; and even at that time, I still did not know that, I asked them. They did not tell [me]. They arrested those [who were close to me]. I knew it secretly. They did not let me go outside the house, and they did not allow anyone to contact me. Then, the telephone lines, all telephone lines I used to make orders from one ministry to another, especially Ministry of Interior, Ministry of National Defense, were cut off, cut off. It was early December. And, as the phone lines were cut off I wondered what made the phone lines cut off. Then, it seemed to me that a phenomenon/problem occurred. At that time, at 16:00 pm on December 2, 1981, it appeared that something was happening to me. I felt dizzy ceaselessly and I couldn’t work out what had occurred. And, then, Mister, by the name of Tahom, who had worked for me personally in my workplace, waiting on me in person, said to me “Bong, the situation now appeared to be unfavorable for you,” because Vietnamese had arrested and convened those officials around you for questioning. Even Mr. Lim Nay, I and other officials were convened for questions, too”. They were asked how I worked; what type of person I had been. I asked him why and what else he was questioned. He said he did not know. But, he was asked if he had seen I do something wrong. Since those people held me in high esteem and loved me affectionately, they said they saw me do nothing wrong and that, “I was very busy doing his work and working hard” Vietnamese people knew that. They asked so many questions because they suspected and, at that time, I also knew, I knew that what I raised in the meeting of the Central Party’s Political Bureau; when I met the Vietnamese Ambassador; when I met the representative of Vietnamese advisors/experts I proposed to create a temporary committee for Vietnamese Immigrants, the Vietnamese party did not respond to me at all. But, at that time, I planned to hold another meeting and I did not invite Vietnamese experts and Mr. Hun Sen phoned me to ask, “Bong, did you invite Vietnamese experts to participate in the opening of the scheduled meeting”. I said, ‘no’. Then, when he knew that he had an idea to make a final conclusion that I did not trust Vietnamese and he helped Vietnamese. It is like this. And, as he saw that, upon my return from Pursat province at the time I just described earlier, at 15:00 on 30th November. And, at that time, I found that in the afternoon, at 4:00 pm, 16 hours on December 2, I saw two tanks move close to the Independence Monument (00:35:14) 2 near the theatre, 2 near Chaktomuk hall and 2 others behind my house; altogether, there were 12 tanks. I felt something unusual as I saw them and I found it completely strange. I already thought something would occur to me because I had proposed Vietnamese to respect the Kampuchean territorial integrity and sovereignty. And, I thought that there was a whistle-blower/informant. I assumed that the person, who reported to Vietnamese, the reporter, who told on me to Vietnamese, I supposed that it was Mr. Hun Sen. And, by that time, I, on the same date, December 2, was playing sports. I jogged near my house. I did exercise, and when I went back inside the house I took a bath. It was, then, a quarter to 6 pm (17:45pm) on December 2, 1981 (00:36:03). Soon after I entered the house I saw more security guards around. Vietnamese sent more people in to be stationed around the fence of my house, and at night, I did not do anything. I felt something would happen, but I did not know what would occur. I had no idea at all. When I was about to have dinner I chose not to eat. I tried to make a telephone call to Minister of National Defense, Mr. Chan Sy, telephoned to Minister of Interior, Mr. Khaing Sarin, and the two telephone lines were all completely off; and I tried to make a phone call to the Chief of the Central Party’s Office, Mr. Lim Nay. They were all completely out of touch and I tried to call my assistant at the Ministry of National Defense, Mr. Meas Sophea. Again, the line was cut. Here, I was sure something would definitely come out, but not sure of what. Here, I supposed this because at 18h00 pm, exactly 18h00 pm, while I, I was sitting, making telephone calls to different places, suddenly Mr. Say Bouthong and Mr. Hun Sen appeared at my house . I was sitting at the table from which I made those unsuccessful telephone calls. While I was making phone calls they arrived climbing up. I saw Mr. Hun Sen point a finger at...Err! Mr. Say Bouthong, he pointed a finger at my face and said, “Bong, you betrayed the nation. Bong, listen to Comrade, Hun Sen, as he reads out to you the resolution of the Central Party’s Political Bureau; the Revolutionary People of Kampuchea had held an extraordinary meeting, and Mr. Hun Sen took the Central Party’s resolution out of his pocket and read. That included the motto. I’d like to mention the whole [resolution]. The Motto was:

People’s Republic of Kampuchea
Independence Freedom Peace Happiness

And below this was:

RESOLUTION...Err.
Extraordinary Meeting of the Central Party’s Political Bureau of the Revolutionary People of Kampuchea
A special session was opened on November 30, 1981 to strip Bong Pen Sovann of all positions (00:38:14). Bong Pen Sovann has been found to have made three following wrongdoings:
1. Having an idea to create Kampuchean economy based on free markets [policy] against the communism. This is problem 1. Problem 2. Narrow-minded, being ultra-nationalist, against Vietnamese immigrants by not allowing them to settle in Kampuchea . Problem 3. Impose taxes on airplanes landing at Pochentong airport, not in favor of Vietnamese planes. Meanwhile, Bong Pen Sovann was opposed to Vietnamese plans, particularly the K-5 Plan, refusing to create K-5 in Kampuchea. Considering serious wrongdoings of Bong Pen Sovann, the Central Party’s Political Bureau decided to remove Bong Pen Sovann of all positions in the Party and the Government.

Signed by: Heng Samrin, Chea Sim, Hun Sen, Chea Soth, Bou Thong, Say Bouthong, Matt Ly, except Chan Sy only .

It was this time that Vietnamese police brought by Mr. Hun Sen and Vietnamese soldiers accompanying them used black cloth to tie me; as soon as Mr. Hun Sen finished reading the resolution and went down [my house]; while Mr. Hun Sen, Mr. Say Bouthong went down, they [Vietnamese soldiers] used black cloth to blindfold me, pressing my glasses so tightly that they were broken on my eyes. They were cracked in the black cloth, not going into my eyes. They did so without even taking the glasses out. Then, the Vietnamese police A21, A 21 police, underground police, the Vietnamese special police force took out handcuffs and handcuffed me . They smashed the telephone on the table, bang! Then, [they] handcuffed me. Four Vietnamese soldiers held my hands tight, two on each side, and took me down the house. They took me down the house and threw me into the car, bang! And, then, they handcuffed me again in the car, and they squeezed, crushed, and pushed me hard against the car and told me not to make noise. Or “I would be dead”, they said so. That is to say that, to cut it short, the removal of my positions was the intention of the Vietnamese, but it was the idea of Mr. Hun Sen. I took leave of the political world of the Revolutionary People’s Party of Kampuchea and ceased to be the Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Kampuchea regime, then.

Q: Now, how did you feel? Did you have any suspicion that you would be removed? Or did you feel that you would be killed?
A: Now, I only knew that I would be removed. The resolution was crystal clear. That was the decision of the Central Party’s Political Bureau. [It was] everybody, except Chan Sy. Everybody agreed to decide to take me out. That’s to say, the idea of Mr. Hun Sen was approved. And, when I was taken to prison I was sure they would [do so], because they said [they’d send] and jail me in Hanoi’s prison, correct? I thought that; I understood that I would die for sure; I would not survive. I would be killed (00:41:54). Because I did [request], I requested that the Revolutionary People’s Party assign a representative to see me in the prison so that I could ask them what mistake I had to make them put me in jail, a dark jail in Hanoi. Firstly, no [one came for explanation]. The Constitution was already created. Without law, without courts, without notice of what mistake I made, without anything, they arrested and put me in jail once and for all. That was what I asked them, and I kept asking again and again, but the Revolutionary People’s Party of Kampuchea did not reply at all. Until December 13, 1981, while I was sitting at a table; there was a table in the prison. Suddenly, I felt like I was so tired. As I was sitting faced down I apparently did not notice Le Duck Tho entering. The prison guards opened [the door] to let him in. As he approached me, he hit the table, bang! He pointed a finger at my face. He pointed a finger at my face, saying that, “I did not know nor expect that you are against us. Currently, our troops in your country are 180,000. You dare go against us?” . Had we known that you were against us I would have squeezed you so strongly that you were completely pulverized since you grew in egg. This was his first statement. In the second statement, he said you formed the government with such and such structures and such and such ministers. Didn’t you ever think you could get away from the reach of our hands! Never wonder! He said this, and in the third statement, he said, “In the future, long distant future ahead, whether there are 180,000 troops of our army or not, your country’s leaders will never get away from the reach of our hands. If they dare go away from the reach of our hands, I will squeeze them so tightly that they will be pulverized even when they are growing in eggs. He hit the table, bang, and left . This was what he said. I knew that from this time on, my life would be jailed and locked up in the dark jail without hope for a day of return [to normal]. At that point in time, I saw it through. Regarding the reason [for locking me up], the person, who gave me an explanation, was a Vietnamese instead of a Khmer and I demanded that a Khmer come to see me so that Khmers can talk to each other in order that I know how I had made mistake, where I made the mistake or if there was any law in force or a court involved in my arrest. That was all I wanted to know. Nonetheless, if I did something wrong I would not be frightened [to face the law]. I knew and I appealed. When Le Dek Tho came to see me he used rude language. I thought I would not survive as I was like a fish on the chopping-block- a fish on the chopping block. I could not escape the dangerous situation, which might eventually happen. Still, there was a letter I sent through a prison security guard. I asked him to send it to Cambodia for me. I had sent the letter; I had sent it since January 6, 1982 . I insisted on requesting that the Revolutionary People’s Party of Kampuchea assign any representative to see me so that I could hear an explanation about my betrayal to the nation or where I betrayed it and why I was arrested and jailed in such an inhumane way. I was waiting again and again for their explanation, which never happened. From month to month, I waited in vain. I found nothing. However, I received a letter on February 13, 1982, addressing me and the prison guard brought it to me. The same motto – The People’s Republic of Kampuchea, Independence Freedom Peace Happiness – was written in the letter. This was the second resolution. It read that the Central Party’s Political Bureau of the Revolutionary People’s Party of Kampuchea made the second resolution . Please Bong Pen Sovann; it was written: “please, Bong Pen Sovann, don’t ask the Revolutionary People’s Party of Kampuchea any more questions. You know all your treacherous acts better than anyone else. Especially, you are narrow-minded, ultra-nationalist and against the Vietnamese by not allowing them to settle in Kampuchea. Given your treacherous mind and idea, the Revolutionary People’s Party of Kampuchea cannot accept you to come back to Kampuchea. Therefore, please, Bong, reap the result of your treacherous acts. For the Central Revolutionary People’s Party of Kampuchea, member of the Central Party’s Political Bureau, Say Bouthong. They wrote like that

Please forgive Hun Sen, since he got his PhD. from Hanoi and all he can do now is to monologue his endless feeling in front of newly graduated University students to show his frustration and his inability to lead the country to prosperity.

Cambodian people of today still live in the Stone Age and majority are uneducated, dirt poor, and dirty!

For Cambodia to move beyond the Stone Age society, Hun Sen needs to admit his fail policy in addressing the need of Cambodia people! He also needs to admit that without Pen Sovan there would be no January 7 instead of thanking the Vietcong for life in liberation of Cambodia! It is Pen Sovan who saves Cambodia from Pol Pot and it is him who wants to prevent Cambodian civil war and it is him who wants to lead Cambodia to prosperity with the free world without the Vietcong leaders dictate everything in Cambodia and that is why he chose not be to the puppet of the Vietcong government!
Since Hun Sen was so eager to be the puppet of the Vietcong government by putting Pen Sovan in prison in Hanio for 10 years and the result, Cambodia fell into the civil war for the next 10 years! Why do Hun Sen want to destroy Cambodia in order to save Cambodia? This is no different than that of the Pol Pot mentality!

Hun Sen also bragged about how his officials would go to the rice fields to help dirt poor Cambodian farmers in collecting rice! This remind me of King Sihanouk era when he forced his officials to do public works! This is the most outdated and inefficient method to help dirt poor Cambodian farmers because it is all symbolic which make no impact on the life of dirt poor Cambodian farmers!

How about make a real impact on the life of dirt poor Cambodian farmers by offering affordable gasoline, electricity, machinery, bigger roads and bridges to move their goods and services...

Hun Sen is too busy micromanage everything Cambodia and no wonder Cambodia is so weak and because of this weakness the Thai and Viet are no afraid to violate Cambodian sovereignty!

We must leave the past in the past. The question is: how do we bring Samdech Hun Sen, Pen Sovan, and other prominent Khmer leaders together and work for national reconciliation, peace and prosperity?

We need to engage China, Vietnam and Thailand and try to work out our differences to build good relations with our neighbors while strengthening our sovereignty.

Even Sam Rainsy and the opposition are welcome in this united effort, but they must first renounce allegiance to Western imperialism and stop speaking Khmer with that horrible European accent. We know they're capable of speaking Khmer fluently and clearly.

In regard to Mr. Pen Sovan's statement about his arrest shows most of Cambodian top leader today are all traitors in the support by the Vietnamese government. These top Khmer leaders sold themselves to the Vietnamese wish list disregarding the sovereignty of the nation to the Vietnamese control. I am shocked and angry to hear how the Vietnamese treated Cambodia at that time. The story seems to support a lot of evidences in the treaties Cambodia HUN SEN has over the years with Vietnam in term of immigration policy and territorial treaties with Vietnam. I do believe there are much more Vietnamese involvements we have yet discovered. It is good that we keep an eye on them and to bring this issue to the public and the int'l community about the Vietnamese's intention toward Cambodia. Khmer Kampuchea Krom is a living example of how the Vietnamese is treating our Khmer compatriots. Do you want to live in such depriving condition? Vote for HUN SEN is to vote your children's future downward that path under Vietnamese occupation.

អក/Lao Mong Hay -

I refuse to debate you if you continue to post as "ph-awk" because the only thing you do well as "ph-awk" is call people names.

Let me inform you that as a true intellectual I derive no pleasure from such abusive and infantile behavior. That modus operandi is fit only for the uneducated, of which you have demonstrated yourself abundantly, LAO MONG HAY!!!!

You seem to have so much hatred toward Lao Mong Hay for no other reason than the fact that he is much more highly educated than you and his reasoning is not infantile like you.

You are only fit to debate with thugs like your boss Hun Xen, PhD from Hanoi.

"For no reason," my arse. Lao Mon Hay is trapped under westerner spells and rhetorics to wipe out the Khmer culture and heritage.

Talk to the Yuan and Hun Xen, Pen Sovan, Josh, t osee is on mission to wipe out Khmer culture.

You are so desperate to see yourself as an intelelctual, but you are no match for the like of Lao Mong Hay. This is the problem when you buy a degree from Chamroeun Vichea prostitute.

Ah Khmer Luong-Thik! Try and resurface once in a while for air; we can tell that your brain is lacking oxygen right about now. FYI, we make more then a dollars day at our donut shop. Also, in the US, we call it "taxi," not cyclo.
Leave your agrarian mindset and adapt today's technology.

Now, if you think Pen Sovann is a true patrio to Cambodian poeple? Think again! The only way that "Cambodian" poeple to get out from this mess is to work together as one. If you look at history, Cambodia with Sihanouk was also a pupet with Youn"VC". Do you remember March 18, 1970. Because of his dealing with the "VC". I think we as Cambodian poeple should work together and love each other, if we are going to be sucess in living together in this life time and the next, next ....generations to come.
