Hun Sen must show up to the National Assembly (NA) to answer questions about “Thailand presence on Cambodian territory,” SRP MP Son Chhay indicated.
Son Chhay asked Hun Sen to come and clarify to the NA during the government questioning session which will take place on Thursday.
“The prime minister must explain to the MPs the reasons leading to the prolonged [Thai] presence on the [Cambodian] territories,” Son Chhay said in a letter dated 25 November in which he cited Article 96 of the Constitution allowing MPs to invite government officials to speak on any given topic.
Heng Samrin, whom the letter was addressed to, approved the request on 27 November, as the law stipulated.
When asked about Son Chhay’s undertaking, Khieu Kanharith, government spokesman, indicated that the SRP is trying to gain political benefit from the border crisis.
“Or maybe, it’s a sign of laziness from Son Chhay, who apparently did not follow up on this affair in which the government provided explanations on many occasions,” an ironic Khieu Kanharith claimed.
“I am not PM. But, I think that we will reply in writing to this MP by referring him to our past explanations.”
