The new Information and Communications Technology (ICT) minister has vowed to make it a priority to block websites insulting the monarchy.
Ranongrak Suwanchawee told senior ICT officials that most of the websites originated outside the country and would be blocked, as would sites considered obscene and those offering online games and gambling.
She said her predecessor in the post mistakenly believed that little could be done to control sites originating overseas.
While the new minister targets the internet, she also must make strengthening the two state telecom enterprises a priority, said Anuparb Thiralarp, a telecoms expert.
He said the TOT Plc and CAT Telecom were seeing their revenues and value shrinking in a very competitive market.During the past four years, he said, the asset values of both agencies have declined by almost half and were still on a down trend.
He also told the new minister to speed up efforts to enact the frequency allocation law to encourage more activity in the telecom industry.
During the past four years, he said, no new players have entered the industry because the National Telecommunications Commission has not been active enough.
The frequency allocation law could encourage newcomers and enable free and fair competition, he said.
He said that previously, the law focused only on the separation of two state regulators for telecoms and broadcasting. The emphasis in the future should be the utilisation of radio frequency resources, along with network management and supervision.

Thai government cannot use censorship in the world internet network for chatting and gossipping about Thai monarchy. This is internet freedom. In the US the FCC nor CISCO (the internet IPV6 network provider) will not intervene for sure. We talked good & bad about our own Khmer monarchy. We should have the freedom to talk about Thai monarchy also (good & bad).

Thai's troller invasion now?
I think Siamese Monachy should not be untouchable, why ? every Human is the same kind of spieces excepted the title, this KING doen't mean untouchable either. He's not much different from Mr. HUN SEN, let compare:
Hun Sen is a strong man, Siamese King is absolute Monachy, Mr. Hun Sen rule the Country, Siamese King rule over Siamese Constitution, Mr.Hun Sen is a Commander of National arme force, Siamese KIng is a Suprime Siamese Commander arme force, Mr Hun Sen is a wealthy leader so do the Siamese king, Mr. Hun Sen has one eye, so do Siamese King, Mr. Hun Sen Has a scumy hand, so do the Siamese King, coup after coup,perhape his own family. He had creating the Yellow shirt Prty, so do Mr. Hun Sen in Cambodia(HRP). So lady and gentleman what I can see the different is the title of these two individuals. Thai should change the word "Monarchy" to "Anarchy". It's sound better. For real, all of thai-people (Red and Yellow) did not obey his king anymore. They did what they wanted, king is like a scared-crow.
Ah Adulyadet, thai king, is nothing but only create trouble. He was behide a yellow protester that expelled two thai PM whose opposing him.
it is ironic that thailand even called themselves "democracy" when their god-king is untoucheable. of course, they borrowed that system from cambodia, especially from the khmer angkor civilization.
