Shopping Center Vendors Seek Discount
By Heng Reaksmey, VOA Khmer
Original report from Phnom Penh
11 December 2008
Nearly 200 vendors gathered in front of the Sovanna shopping center Thursday, protesting high fees in the face of declining business.
Vendors said fees for stalls and stores were high compared to other similar markets, such as Sorya, even though the shopping center was empty of customers.
One vendor who asked not to be named said she was losing $400 to $500 per month and said she was hoping for a discount from the center.
However, Chhap Rithy, an adviser to the general manager of the shopping center, said Sovanna was losing $40,000 per month.

Sovanna market seems too narrow and inconvenience parking area. Stalls & stores location management are disorder. I don't think it will run better even in the long-run. I went there one time but it didn't convince me to go there again...
That a result of Having money without idea and long-term vision ... doing business without prior assessments, doing business by smelling.
The vendors are doing business customarily. I think, compared to Sorya, Sovanna is even more modernized but the problem is that it is yet to be widely known. Re buying force, in conjunction with the current financial crisis, most people are merely window shoppers who expose themselves outdoors in the air-conditioned premises.

I think the best way to stand for long run is making customer believe and happy to the service. Every seller should make the customer feel good. Don't just sit like an uneducated person.
I think, all the vendors yourself should focus on Marketing Strategy which base on price and so forth. because the price of your products are so high (such as clothes....)and if we compare with our people's income, how many people are able to buy the wanted product with this price. In addition, please search for the price in other market to make sure it's suitable price for your customers.
i go there and play game at the arcade where they have games machine from the 80's hehehe good fun
do they have any idea how to deal with what is happening with this situation? I mean if there is not profit, will Sovanna shopping center stay still?
