New Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva appealed to fugitive ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra to return to Thailand and respect the courts' verdicts in his legal cases.
In an interview on Channel 7, Mr Abhisit said:
"If [Mr Thaksin] returns, he will be honourably treated as a former prime minister. However, every legal process will proceed according to law."
It was the first comment on the former prime minister by the Democrat leader since the party convinced some of Mr Thaksin's former allies in parliament to cross the aisle and support a Democrat-led coalition government.
Mr Thaksin, who is now in voluntary exile, told his supporters Wednesday that he would come back to Thailand - "some day".
The former prime minister, who headed the government from 2001 until he was overthrown by a military coup in 2006, has been convicted on one case of corruption - using his office to help his ex-wife Khunying Potjaman Damapong obtain a sweet deal on a large land plot in the Ratchadaphisek area of Bangkok.
He also faces a number of other cases, mostly involving alleged corruption or malfeasance in office. There are at least six separate warrants for his arrest outstanding from the Supreme Court's Special Division for Political Office Holders.

Don't need to go hunt someone outside the country. Those people who shutdown airports creating havoc for the country still walking around, showing their faces on TV like nothing happen. They surrendered to the police once a few months back when they occupied the government house. The court let them out a few days later to go back creating some more damages. Pro Thaksin protesters creating disturbance just a few days ago were issued arrest warrants immediately and some were arrested already. Coincident? I think not.
I think Thaksin should creat a government in exile and abolish the Thai monarchy...the first to be executed once Thanksin in power is Abhisit.
