Unfortunately it is true. This has been confirmed to me by his widow Sivorn. He died in a Paris suburb hospital thursday noon Paris time. This is a great loss for Cambodia and those who are proud of the khmer culture. His teachings will live forever in the memory of khmer people, even if his uncompromised stand against all kind of obscurantism has won him animosity from tormentors of the Cambodian people.

It is a very disaster for khmer People that lose a greatest man for the Nation.

This is one of the great lost , and second only to Samdech sangreach CHUON NATH.May your soul rest in peace.
Life still goes on for Khmer people,
With due respect to the leaned Man
It was a disgrace to the Khmer Nation when he distorted the true history of King Jayavarman VII.
Please rest in peace...
Let the stupid professor go to hell for twisting Khmer history to shit.
3:10 and 3:13,
How do you know he changed history?
If he can proove with reasonable evidences, why we don't accept the fact?
Somebody said HunSen is very best Khmer leaders. If sb can proove, we must accept it.
Twisting Khmer history about our great King Jayavarvan VII is a mental illness. Khmer need to unite. Unlike fake Thai history, their scholars make it into fiction and full of exaggeration.
He was no longer a Khmer once he tasted French food, and whether he passed on or not, it doesnt concern much...
However, rest in peace.
My condolences to his bereaved family of a great man, only second to our Buddhist Patriarch Chuon Nath.
It is a great loss for the country and for the world. My condolences to his family.
Be in peace!!!

It's a very sad new. I am a former student of Pr Keng Vansak in the year 1950's.
He taught us Khmer literature. Although he was a Domocrat and refused to Join the Sangkum Reastr Niyum, he never talked about politic in Class.
He was only against the Dictature and not against the Monarchy. I think hewas a bright intellectual and a moderate politician.
Khmer moderate poliSickians, perhpas only two, were Hou Youn and Hu Nim. Ironically speaking, Dr. Keng ain't!
Concerning Khmer History let The HISTORY make the judgement.History means impartiality.
Only the FUTURE with its impartial Scholars will make the real History of Cambodia.
i'm the young generation, don't know much about life history of the prof. keng vannsak. Can someone post one.
Not to mean disrespect for the deceased, but here is my humble opinion about Prof. Keng Vannsak.
From what I know, Prof. Keng was at first considered as a republican who courageously and defiantly challenged the Sihanouk’s (Songkum) regime in the 1950’s. He latter became Pol Pot close and personal mentor when the latter and Ieng Sary came to study in France. Through his recent writing dated Dec 11, 2008, it appeared that Prof. Keng carried his bitter animosity toward the monarchy until the very last day of his existence.
Given the appalling and unjustifiable treatments he received from the Songkum high ranking officials and supporters, it was quite understandable that Prof. Keng had a very hash view on the monarchy, in particular King-father Sihanouk. And to some extent, his critics on King-father Sihanouk and Songkum were factual and had merits.
Like many respectable nationalists of his generation, Prof. Keng did exhibit some weak and regrettable Khmer characters. He was unwilling to put the past behind, and let his personal feeling cloud his judgement and wisdom for a large part of his life. It was a huge lost to the nation and to himself to continue living in the bitter past rather than move on and devote his grand intellect to create an inspiring legacy for the future generation.
This is the main difference between Samdach Monk Choun Nat and Prof. Keng, two men of comparable intellect but completely different wisdoms.

to an insult, but there's go the old saying: nobody can live forever! please help your country while you are still alive because, so sorry to say, once you died of old age of something, you cannot take all the material stuff with you because even if you believe in the after-life, it is different from the physical world, to say the least. god bless.
all Cambodian and our country have lose the great man, intelligent and a nationalist...
