On December 31, 2008, Tea Banh, the ministry of Defense, promoted 70 officers to the rank of 1-golden-star general, The Cambodia Daily reported. In March of 2006, Tea Banh indicated that 643 officers occupied the rank of 1 to 4-golden-star generals in Cambodia. This number would provide a ratio of 1 general per 179 soldiers. In comparison, in 2004, the entire US army counts only 876 generals, i.e. 1 general per 1,346 soldiers.

The high ratio in the US because there are only a few smart generals. And they have dumb power.
That is why now they want to try "smart power", as Hillary puts it. Perhaps they should import the Cambodian generals.

I agreed with 1:22, and I like to add that that is why the US lost the Vietnam war also. Therefore, our army deserved better than the US.
It would be intersting to know the qualifications of these generals, as well as their missions. I hope these generals are not just sitting behind their desks collecting the pay cheques and brutalize their own citizens that they suppose to protect.

I don't understand why many people in the poor or third world countries can not see the fact that America is the strongest nation. I guess they - being weak or loser - don't want to admit it that's all. Or maybe, that is their way of thinking, that's why the remain a third world country.

America may be the strongest country in the world today, but it is falling apart. Just look at the financial crisis it is going through.
Furthermore, America has a $10 trillion national debt, and $2 trillion of that is owed to China. China can make America bankrupt at any time just by liquidating its US debt securities.
That's why they allowed the U.S. to borrow so much money. They don't need to nuke the U.S. to destroy it. China can do so by pulling the rug from under the Americans' feet and cause them to self-destruct through chaos and anarchy.
Everyone knows that China, which has a growing economy while everyone else is in recession, will be the world's next superpower. China's philosophy is based on nationalism and moderation. That's why it is the oldest living civilization in the world.

Unlike like Vietnam or Thailand, the rich and democratic countries such as France, England, German, US, …etc don’t want to annex small and poor countries. Why? because these countries truly respect their constitutions, and their constitutions state that all their citizens must be treated EQUALLY.
For example, if US annexes Laos, then US has to treat Laosians as their own people with all the privileges and benefits that American people have. Laos has no use for US. Why would US wants to give these expensive privileges and benefits to the people of Laos? That’s why US and other rich countries do not annex smaller or poor countries. In these days, many countries in the World want to be annexed by US. Even Cambodia begs to be annexed by US, the latter will not do it.
Vietnam and Thailand on the other hand always dream to annex our country because they will never treat Khmer people as good as their own people.
For US, they don't worry whose going to overthrow the government.
For Cambodia, the reason do that because HUN SEN can have a solid root to prevent someone or other groups to overthrom him.
And this is the path to dictatorship.

Good to hear from you Khmer Patriot. I disagree with your assessment on US. I think it is erroneous to rate the financial health of a country by simply looking at the amount of debt that country owes. We have to also look at other factors including the country wealth and the capacity to generate revenue …etc.
Look at Khmer Rouge government during 1975-79, it did not owe the money to any country. Does it mean the KR government or our country under the KR government was rich? A business man who has an annual revenue of $500K and a debt of $700K is still much richer and better off than a farmer with an annual revenue of $2500 and a debt of $25K.
No doubt, China is becoming richer in these days, but she is still one of the poor country in the world if you look at the average income per person. Also, her economy would be in a big trouble if US and its allies do not allow China products to their countries.
Who said the KR didn't owed any debt? Just how did they get all of the cannons and guns to fight the war.
And if the KR government was that good, why did so many people drop dead left and right from starvation and diseases?
No one is saying the KR is good.
We don't know for a fact, but it appeared that the KR traded rice for the weapons from China. I was living in the Eastern Zone, and every year right after the harvest season, the KR brought in trucks to take all our rice aways. That's how people in our region starved.
So what you are saying in essence it the KR used rice to pay back their debt. Isn't that the same?

Paying the debt with rice is still a money. They didn't print out their money or have their assets in Swiss bank or world bank but rice was a currency during KR's rule. hey, there's a method to this, in case you're not aware. in cambodia, it is necessary to have a lot of people lining up in official position because history or experience have shown that it is importance because when something happen to one at least they have more. plus, it is good for hands-on training as well. hey, somebody has gotten to be different; this is cambodia, in case you've not aware. people tend to do differently in cambodia than the rest of the world, perhaps. i don't think anything's wrong with that as long as it is not illegal. so, for once, stop your jealousy or hate so the world can be a better place. thank you. god bless cambodia.

I don't care about these stupid dumb shit Cambodian generals. They know absolutely nothing about warfare, defending the homeland, military tactics & strategy, leadership nor anything else. They are only a bunch of uneducated idiots playing dress up in uniforms and thinking they are all pretty with their worthless stars and caps. They absolutely have no qualifications and are only there in the military to siphon international aid money into their pockets along with their incompetent Tea Banh. These guys don't even try to earn their ranks through service, sacrifice and duty. It's all fake, for show, and to me, this is humiliating and hilarious.

U.S. vs Cambodia
United States army general:
-graduates from high school
-Commissioned as a 2nd Lt upon graduation from a national military academy (i.e. West Point)and earns bachelors degree in their field of study. studied military history, international relations and politics as well as their field of study
-earns graduate degree at 4-year institution.
-strong infantry and airborne training. developed strong leadership skills.
-serves many years through the ranks
-have strong capabilities in military science
-distinguish themselves through valor, performance of conduct, duty, sacrifice and years of service
-seek out an assignment to a military specialty in a combat arm or in an area where there are rapid promotions.
-experience in war time
-advanced schooling through the Command and General Staff College and similar military institutions
-20 years or more in their quest to attain the status of general
Cambodian army general:
-little or no military training and if any, it's from one in Vietnam
-be friends of the CPP
-uneducated
-learn how to siphon international aid money and be prepared to never pay stipends to soldiers
-learn how to play dress up and act cute in their uniforms and meaningless medals, stars, etc.
-smoke and do nothing all day
-don't have to learn any military science or history or anything because once war starts, they'll pocket their money and run away and leave everything else for the poor soldiers
-once and a while go to Svay Pak and have sex with under aged girls
-your stars get rewarded to you so fast and without any merit because it's like tossing bread crumbs to the crows
-doesn't give a shit about defending the homeland, a sense of duty, earning rank through service and performance
