Cambodia Political Crown: a new shift

Dear All,

To respond to Khmerization's analytical article [see below] about the King and the Republic, I am profoundly affected by the current appearance of new sort of a Political Crown in Cambodia.

To put it simply, the regards to present constitutional monarchy Cambodia is just a show. It is truly political show to having King but in reality Cambodia currently has no King. Present Cambodia has solely transformed into a new type of Political Crown.

The idea of this political crown has been witnessed by the transition of ancient feudal monarchy to cold war communist ideology. While communist blamed feudal and corrupted monarchical/elite system, they created new type of their own King (political crown) such as the Collectivism Camp, the Angkar or Top Commander...etc

As the result, we acknowledge the idea generalized "all communist political leaders or their polibureau are the new type of King, Crown, Feuds, or Monarch".

In Cambodia is not different from that transition. Hun Sen has gradually become the true King/Crown. This is the political shift which no one can oppose it in both academic debate and folklore communication.

In his longest primiership, Hun Sen and his cronies particularly under the galvanizing of his eternal friend the Vietnam, his gradually achievement to become Khmer King is clearly exhibited.

We might call new shift of Cambodia politic led by a man with no Kingship Blood like Hun Sen as Republic, but it is surely still relevant as a Political Crown.

Personally, I don't mind what Cambodia political system is going to shape. Or we can say the Cambodia Monarchy is abolished by Monarchical Members themselves to change Cambodia to republic, or we can say Cambodia in the future will become republic by Hun Sen's leadership; but the key issue is to keep Cambodia alive with true peace, stability, dignity and prosperity as all of us need.

However, our hope has been gradually derailed away because of continual Vietnam domination and puppet behavior of CPP.

Under Hun Sen's political leadership within CPP, Cambodia cannot move forward with brighter future. It has moved forward solely to satisfy his eternal friend, the Vietnam.

To articulate this argument empirically, we can conclude that:
  1. Vietnam's new approach of expansionism and Vietnamization in Cambodia is by impersonating in free marketing, flowing of illegal immigrants and creating physical border demarcation by neglecting international laws...etc
  2. CPP has been made by Vietnam. It is ideally to keep this machine alive in Cambodia.
  3. Under CPP's administration, there are still hundred thousands of Vietnamese soldiers and policemen are hiding and impersonating as Cambodian.
  4. In order to achieve its goal and to avoid the international condemn, Vietnam has arranged to maintain their agents to work as the Cambodian policemen entirely country.
  5. Is it safe and free and sovereign for Cambodian people as well as their beloved nation, when their safety guards are impersonating Vietnamese agents?
  6. Angkor Wat has been owned/concessed by Sok Kong, a Vietnamese businessman, are employing Vietnamese citizens and special agents.
  7. Vietnam sees clearly that Angkor Wat is the icon of nationalism and cultural identity of Cambodia, so to keep controlling Angkor Wat will ensure their expansionism.
  8. The day of January 7 has been reactivated by CPP again to celebrate as well as to manipulate Cambodian people to believe and trust in Vietnam. This is correct that, Vietnam can control Cambodia only when they can convince Cambodian people to believe in them.
  9. The celebration of the day of January 7 has no meaning at all for Cambodian people because we celebrate this day in order to stop the coming back of KR, but currently will KR come back?
  10. So the day of January 7 celebration is politically oriented and it is surely to celebrate in order to pay gratitude to foreigner.
  11. Not only celebrate the day of January 7, CPP under Vietnam's spearhead has tried to create chaos in Khmer society, for instance the present news of laying bombs on the ground in the capital city of Phnom Penh, is the good excuse to blame all other dissents.
  12. While general Cambodian dissents of the day of Junuary 7 are keeping silent, the CPP under Vietnamese spearhead will make this day overwhelmingly louder and louder.
So, how can we conclude that Cambodia's under new type of Political Crown, Hun Sen, can lead us to freedom, stability, peace and prosperity?

I agree totally with the writter of this article. With the strong man of Hun sen leadership, Cambodia will move to a closer to self-destruction by allowing the vietnamese to annex Cambodia more easily without an opposition. The present monarchy is a puppet one put up to foul the general public. But in reality this monarchy provde no hope for any Cambodian people at all except for a few individual who could share with members of the royal family for a yearly budget of 5 millions us dollars. We can see at present, this kingship cannot even propect two innocenses people for the scapegoat of killing Chea Vichea at all. Each time during any political crisis between the ruling party and opposition party, the king cannot come out as an arbitrary. The King was always keep himself quiet for worrying his own safety. Who want to play King?

Samdech Hun Xen
Samdech Heng Xamkis
Samdech Chea Shrimp

Since Samdech(King) Hun Xen can participate in politic and I don't see a reason why other Prince and Princess and the Royal family can't participate in politic!

"Article 7-
The King of Cambodia shall reign but shall not govern.
The King shall be the Head of State for life.
The King shall be inviolable."

Now according to article 7 and tell how the fuck Samdech(King) Hun Xen get to be a prime minister and govern the whole Cambodia? And he always said publicly repeatedly that he want to be Cambodian Prime Minister for life! Not only that he is going around telling other such as Prince and Princess and the Royal family not to join politic! Does Samdech(King) Hun Xen preaching hypocrisy?

Honestly I don't even know if Cambodia even has a King! If Cambodia does have a King and please tell me because I want to play King too!

Only time will tell whether all khmer will allow this to continue to complete youn dictatorship or total rebellion?

My opinion, is that after vietnam war. The united states and vietnam made some kind of secret agreement for vietnam to slowly take over cambodia for united states peaceful departure from vietnam without losing faces.

So the united states and world organization such as UN acts like not of this happening in cambodia and vietnam is kept quiet until it too late.

My other guess is that current situation today with thailand is that thailand is aware about the vietnamization over cambodia, And thailand trying to play a part in stopping vietnam. For they know that eventually, vietnam will get to them too.

Again, its an asumption. But for sure its a possibility!

"the key issue is to keep Cambodia alive with true peace, stability, dignity and prosperity as all of us need" is accurately right.

However, I don't think author has tangible proofs concerning so-called empirical arguments : 3 and 4. I live in Cambodia and I don't think it's empirically correct. Author's thought is not different of what of Pol Pot. Everyone is vietnamese or vietnamese agents. Finally what? Blind chauvinist,
he killed many Cambodians.

6 and 7 are completely misleading. Contract is commercially based. I don't think, state's control of Angkor wat would improve our famous tourist spot without private initiatives.

8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 show problematic knowledge of Cambodia's history of the author. Yes, of course, it's politically oriented BUT both for ones who support 7 Jan and ones who oppose it. The ones who oppose could not mobilize supports because Cambodians know that Vietnamese liberalized them from genocidal regime Pol Pot gave them freedom to have family, to go to pagoda... to have what Pol Pot regime did not give and then they have occupied Cambodia. The problem is that they occupied Cambodia, they took away military engines among other wealth from Cambodia. Winer could do what they want and at least they don't kill Cambodians.

I strongly agree too with the idea there is NO KING in Cambodia recently. The KING is just like a Toy. The real KING is Mr. HUN XEN. How come?? he wants to stay in the power for life. Huh! I hope one day soon the next new Khmer Scholar will replace YOU. I strongly hope that. However, what we can say just only the voice. How can we do in the real action. Long time and long time to do it. I wish and prefer all Khmer scholar living at abroad go back home to help our sad Cambodia, at least we can help on small children living on the street and can be a non-corruption official with a low position. Just starting to DO from NOW. DON'T just say OK.

10:43 AM, I support you.

We can help Cambodia by not becoming its leader.
For local cambodians, enough is enough with Anikachone in Funcinpec.
So-called nationalists, lovers of Cambodia cried they love Cambodia and want to serve Cambodia. They will come to Cambodia only if they are nominated as ministers so that they can help Cambodia. Now, we see through Funcinpec.

To Areak Prey and the pro-American Khmers -

Estimates vary widely on the actual number of Khmer civilians killed by the American carpet bombings between 1969 and 1974.

What we now know are:

1. Recent declassified documents from the US government revealed almost 3 MILLION TONS of bombs were dropped on Cambodia from 1969-1974.

2. The bombings were far more extensive than initially believed and by 1974 encompassed more than half of the Cambodia. They were not confined to the Ho Chi Minh Trail as some had claimed.

3. The amount of bombs dropped on Cambodia by the U.S. between 1969 and 1974 was more than used in all of World War II, including the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

By comparison, about 2 million tons of bombs were used in all of World War II, and an estimated 50 to 70 million people died in the war worldwide.

So, it's EXTREMELY UNLIKELY that the 3 million tons of bombs indiscriminately dropped on Cambodia by the American B52s killed only "a few thousands (sic) people, animals and trees" as you claimed. I find it interesting that you mention Khmer people's lives in the same breath as animals and trees.

While the exact number of Khmer civilians killed by the US bombings is not known, most experts put it in the range of between 600,000 and 1 million.

I think a figure of 1 million is actually conservative based on findings from population studies and the sheer t of tonnage bombs dropped.

The bottom line is that your Uncle Sam had completed the first phase of genocide against the Khmer people, leaving Pol Pot to do the rest.

CPP stands for "CAMBODIAN PEOPLE's Party," and there are many reasons that the CPP is in control of Cambodia, one of which is that they do not equate the lives of the CAMBODIAN PEOPLE to those of animals and trees. Nor do they try to deny or diminish the destruction left by America.

If you live in the America, have a good life there. Your children will grow up American and may not even speak Khmer.

And as long as you continue to equate Khmer lives to animals and trees, you have no business commenting on Khmer issues.

Thanks for your cooperation.

For the sake of the author who quite honestly articulated his idea:

You cannot deny the truth of number 2

In case number 3, you have to look around you or you can visit the national police headquarter in Phnom Penh, or in Battambong, or in Siem Reap...

6 & 7 has become a critical thing because why many Vietnamese including the security guards are Vietnamese to guard the temples...the author correctly articulated as I saw with my eyes. Commercially contract, but Cambodian sovereign should not be sold with such dirty business contract...

8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 are well articulated by the author because in a common sense in celebrating the day of January 7 each year will benefit whom? Cambodians in general? CPP? or Vietnam? As the author said: KR will never come back to power again? Or I can further that CPP without the day of January 7 can win other parties easily? But why CPP still keep this notorious day to divide Cambodian people? Is it CPP or is it Vietnam behind?

Of course, the day of January 7 celebration will create more chaos and division among Cambodians? Why CPP cannot see this truth?

Take your time to think about this if you are one of the Cambodian people.

This is true, the monarchy is dead, it has been for almost 50 years. The only thing keeping the Khmers united is their will to survive and resist, NOT because of the monarchy.

Continue resisting.

Khmert Patriot, PhD

Thank you for your cooperation in revealing who you are. At first, I didn't suspect you were an accomplice in equating Khme lives to animals. Now I do after reading your posting. Under your god Hun Sen, Khmer people's lives are worth less than animals. And yet, you are your god are too good at twisting it around.

5:39pm, true. All the CPP leaders are temple boys (hun sen), cattle thieves (samrin, chea sim). they don't know how to run the country except stealing from the nation with their corrupt mentality. the self-proclaimed khmer patriot, ph.d, is a mentally-irrational-brainwashed individual who support his corrupt, incompetent CPP leaders blindly. If his ph.d is real i advise him to broaden his scope of thought a bit widely so he can see the fallacies of CPP and Hanoi masters.

12:48, Thanks for your comments.
Number 2, it's of course that CPP is close to Vietnam than Thailand, US or the West in general due to historical fact.

Number 3, you implied that in various natioal police headquarters in provinces, there are vietnameses. I don't think it's true. How do you define a person as vietnamese?

You know I went to Angkor Wat at least ten times a year. It's surprising to say vietnameses are guarding our temple. This leads again to question how you define someone as a vietnamese.

Concerning 7 Jan, it's simply politics. CPP has 7 jan like Funcinpec has monarchy and SRP has self-proclaimed democratic principles.

2:55AM
You are still not awake. You can not imagine that there are many Cambodians who can think differently from you. What's you think important is just to call for racism, divisionism and importantly unfair accusations.

You don't even learn why SRP lost seat in Phnom Penh except accusing the electoral preparation. But, let me tell you, the reality is more than that.

You accuse the ones who have different points of view as brain washed. You prefer accomodative opinions. You are even afraid a Ph.D. says sth opposite to your ideas.

Come to Cambodia and work a bit for your fellow. Don't addicted to games.

- Regarding number 2, it is no problem just being close with VN under the international policy to gain our collective benefit of Cambodia, but Cambodia under CPP is more than that. Why more than that because the same persons and same organization of CPP who/which once was given birth by Vietnam. And empirically, those persons/CPP have paid much attention with VN and in most of the time it is overwhelmingly to be called international diplomacy especially the trivial so-called "the treaty and corporation of comprehensive friendship in all fields". This acknowledgment just assuming from outside, but internally CPP obey VN like a big master. For example, Hun Sen said "if you want to fight against VN, he will make coffin for". What a stupid word to intimidate his own citizens like this when they express opinion against foreigner.

- You don't think it is true that each policemen headquarter is employing Vietnamese agents because you have never paid attention with the issue. When one day they burn your house, so you will be realized. You don't need to ask how we know Vietnamese from our eyes, you don't know the leopard skin, and you should not accuse me of racism when I tell you this truth...go and observe yourself if you don't want your family and Cambodia will become a subordinate state of VN.

- I don't know how do you expect each visit at Angkor Wat: the art styles, the stones, the people, the trees, or the people especially the guards employing over there? No need to visit there 10 times to realize who are the guards, just one time and communicate with the guard, you will realize who they are? You should not manipulate the information or accusing of other as racism by comparing to Pol Pot's regime. But do your research and be in fair judgment before you assume this or assume that.

- Yes, every party has their own way of political propaganda, but it is still good if that propaganda reserves benefit for Cambodia. But Jan. 7 celebration is instantaneously serving the foreigner. Why? You should know the consequence of celebration of this day for future Cambodia. Currently, do Cambodians need to celebrate Jan. 7 to condemn Pol Pot, to revenge, to maintain hatred, or to stop KR not to happen again...or what is the outcome to celebrate this day? Do you know that?

Think deep in a critical way, no bias, no anger, no discriminate, we are all understandable and knowledgeable because we simultaneously can read and write online English moderately...Cambodia under Hun Sen leadership has never tried to get away from VN's jaw...I tell you

Concerning celebration of the 7th January, it is fine by me. Many of you and I myself was saved in that particular day of January 1979, otherwise, we would not have these days to comment in this forum. I know well that the winner can take whatever they want, but that was the prize, someone had to pay for exchange with our life. Then came K5, we know that, but all of the happening is something beyond our control. We all know, how hard to start from Zero point. One regime after another, we have to survive, so that's why khmers live everywhere today. Americans carpet-bombarded us and then left without paying any attention to what happened to all of us leaving behind. Killing field began since the 17 April the first day KR entered PNH. Thousand of dead people floated the Mekong river 3 days later. Then we were called pro-imperialists, monarchists, though most of us were not. Many of us, and our parents, siblings, relatives were killed because of these cruel blames. Good luck that we survived the regime, not like those who were not guilty to be killed or died of illness/ starvation/forced labors. I never forget that period of time when our knees got bigger than our head. A piece of rice on the tail of dog, everyone fought to get it. I would mind if they celebrate the April 17th, as it was the day khmers were taken to hell alive. I am not for anyone, but say what I can see & think as a Cambodian with neutral view, I can say. We should not divide ourselves. Unite and put our views together to seek for solution to any problems we confront. Corruption is the main issue in our country, but there should be a way to tackle it.
Everywhere khmer

Open Letter: My Concerns of 7 January Celebration

Ladies and Gentlemen, Cambodian Compatriots:

My name's Khmer Young, a younger generation of Cambodia, I would like to express my heartbreaking and sadness to the continual mechanism to make Khmer divided under the controversial day of 7 January.

I am also one of the victim of the Khmer Rouge regime. Many relatives of mine were also starved, tortured and died during that period. Surely, it is not easy to forget this darkness in the history page of Cambodia. But to be a real young Khmer generation, I hold no revenge or hatred towards those mismanaging regime. I am surely realized that this extreme regime has been passed and will never come back again.

All Cambodians of both elders and youngers can see the same sight that Khmers should stop hatred among our own Khmer race, including the wilderness of the Khmer Rouge. This attitude perfectly reflects the heart of all Cambodians to forgive in order to gain the larger benefit and the brighter future. And as most Cambodian population are Buddhist, they has already learned to forgive in the way of clearing their path for the constructive past, intellectual present and brilliant successful future.

In the recent year, Cambodian people of both elders and youngers have been silent about the 7 January day. This quietness doesn't mean that they agree or appreciate this day. Their silence means that all Cambodian people have moved forwards to welcome new period of globalization and capitalism particularly to see the brighter future rather than being lived in the trap of a divisive strategy of foreigner.

However, the CPP as a so-called information minister has deliberately spoken through the media to rationale the 7 January as well as to use the strategy of "dividing and conquering" to make 7 January day become more attractive and to make fear among Cambodian people.

As I am one of the younger generation of Cambodian people, I am not going to debate the advantage or disadvantage of 7 January day because doing so I am just one among those who are falling in the trap of Vietnam. Vietnam has been so smart in making troubling in our society in order to benefit from it. More debate about this controversial day, more division surely happens in Khmer society. And who will benefit from this? The CPP or other parties, or Cambodian people?

To stand strongly in celebrating this day by some few CPP's members are really inspiring. Of course, there are many CPP's prominent members and common supporters don't see any significant necessary to celebrate this day for the benefit of Cambodia or particularly for the benefiting of CPP party to win the vote during election period. CPP with huge budget and human resource can easily win other party rather than using this controversial day. They surely see this day is out of date, and when the Khmer Rouge has been disappeared, this 7 January day is appearing clearly as the day of foreigner intervention and occupation in Cambodia.

Dear all Cambodian compatriots, our don ta (ancestors) have been instructing us to unite and trust each other especially our same race, so any activity that leads to controversial and division among our compatriots, that activity must be condemned and named it as "treason or traitor".

Again, this letter humbly appeals to all Khmers to see the right thing in order to lead the navy of Cambodia in the right track to appreciate our next civilized advancement.

The recognition or celebration of the 7 January day will surely exacerbate our nation, it will not bring any better for Cambodia under the current change of the world.

With King Regards,

Your Very Truly,

Khmer Young
