PHNOM PENH, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's two main royalist political parties, the Funcinpec and the Norodom Ranariddh Party (NRP), have decided to combine forces for May's district and provincial council elections, national media reported Monday.
Officials from the two parties met on Thursday to hold talks and agreed to assist each other in the upcoming election, in which commune councilors will vote to choose the first-ever district, provincial and municipal councils, Funcinpec Secretary-General Nhiek Bun Chhay was quoted by the Cambodia Daily newspaper as saying.
"We have agreed to unite with each other during the council election on May 17," he told the newspaper.
He added that the two parties uniting to form a single party would make sense because the NRP was originally born out of Funcinpec.
NRP spokesman Suth Dina confirmed that the discussions between the two parties were held and the two parties would cooperate for the May election.
In late 2006, Prince Norodom Ranariddh formed the NRP shortly after being ousted from the presidency of Funcinpec, effectively splitting the royalist vote.

the alliance is to set up frontier to bargain power and money. they know too well that such combination is just to function like one of distractors for voters, to confuse voters and those confusing votes will finally fall into cpp advantage.
one more thing they will use this combination to cheat donors saying that cambodia is run by multi-parties, when in fact this country is run by a bunch of puppets serving YOUN country.

If the NRP can go back to the FUNCINPEC, I think they will gain all of the seats that they lost when they split.
They are not good, but they tried to do something for better Cambodia. You should have some respect to these people.
FUN and NRP fusion will not have a very good benefit.

So if I am member of Fun or NRP, i will join CPP. At least, they are just safed for this year. When Yuons government take complete control. It will be too late for everyone !

strategy that cpp asked funcipec and nrp merge is to take away the ballots or at least weakening the srp and the hrp combination...it's so obvious!...led and took order from hun sen...who's else? it's ah chker bulldog nhiek bun chhay and ah keo puth rasmey...and via all the direct and indirect cheating by cpp...hun sen and cpp are seen clearly here will rule cambodia forever! srp and hrp merge is useless!
