In the evening of 06 January, a 65-year-old man died in his hotel in the province of Stung Treng.

On visit in Cambodia for several days with his wife, the man recently crossed the Lao border. According to Koh Santepheap, the couple was visiting Cambodia to perform a multi-Asian-country study on Buddhism for a German magazine. The victim’s wife indicated that her husband seems unwell during the night of the accident before he finally passed out. Her husband being a Buddhist, the wife decided, with the collaboration of local authorities, to cremate his body in a pagoda.
