Chuon Mom Thol, president of the Khmer Union, sent a letter to Hun Sen asking him to act in favor of a lowering of the price of goods.

In this letter, Chuon Mom Thol, president of the Khmer Union – a union known to be pro-government – stressed on the lowering of the price of gasoline and cooking gas whereas the price of other goods has not changed. For example, he cited the price of one kilo of pork meat which is currently sold between 16,000 and 18,000 riels ($4 to $4.50) on the retail market, whereas the wholesale price is only 6,000 riels ($1.50).

“I believe that Samdach Hun Sen could do something on this issue, just like what he did for gasoline, gambling parlors or loan sharks. He had shown in the latter about the efficiency of his intervention. If he is taking action again, he will increase his popularity,” Chuon Mom Thol indicated.

This is the first time that a representative of this union makes a direct appeal to the prime minister to attract his attention to the cost of living condition. According to Chuon Mom Thol, it was through his discussions with female factory workers and his observations that some of these workers earn a better living by working in karaoke bars and beer gardens, that he decided to send a letter to Hun Sen. However, up to now, Hun Sen has not provided any reply yet.

Unions close to the opposition party had already appealed to Hun Sen to take action on these problems, but nothing happened.

I totally agree. High fuel price is one of the main contributors to the c.f.g.s of other commodities but when fuel price drops, other commodities prices don't drop. Retailers and producers alike find the niche to make almost double or even triple the cost of goods sold for some goods and more importantly EDC should also drop the price of electricity. Did the guy also mentioned this?

When all problems must be solved and all decisions must be taken by only one Person, it's not the Management. it's the beguining of the end.

It is called micro-managing!

Oh well! As if AH HUN SEN doesn't have enough on his plate to worry about!

I wonder what happen to his officials who suppose to be expert in their field to do their job. I don't think AH HUN SEN truly understand what is going on in the country and with his control over the Cambodian police and the military and he sure do know who want to threaten his power even if people fart!

Having said that AH HUN SEN make all Cambodian officials as a useless fool!

Every country seems to have public library to educate the public. Does Hun Sen provided a Library to a community in Cambodia?

If Hun Sen lacked motivation to educate Khmer citizens, what has he done with the funds provided by the donors in Billions of dollars over the years?

For a country to prosper, I believe EDUCATION SHOULD BE FIRST JUST LIKE ONE NEEDS AIR TO BREATH!

It's a clear unconsciousness of Cambodian mentality shown by KI's title of this text. It implies that when you are SRP or CPP members or sympathisers, you should not say something or do somethings against the party or even less against its leaders. Even KI's, it seems, openess to advocacy and democracy, they could not escape from this mentality.

Following election 2008, we know that Cambodia has become authoritarian. CPP is stronger and SRP could not mobilize more supports due to its rigide policy or even mentality. This we saw already in 1960s, 1970s. King Sihanouk and Marshal Lon Nol had always the last words like we see today. Our politicians still unfortunately follow money of big businessmen. So, who should contribute to resolve problems?

We should improve our mentality to contribute to our country's development

Long live Cambodia!
