Sokun Mealea, the NRP deputy secretary-general, was nominated as a member of the economic, social and cultural council, attached to the Council of ministers.
The nomination to a government position seems quite surprising in view Sokun Mealea’s past political engagement. Currently a member of the NRP, she is joining this new structure – the economic, social and cultural council of the Council of ministers – which was put into place on 23 January to replace the economic, social and cultural council observation committee. While still a student, she was known as being an anti-Vietnamese student member who was opposed to the CPP. However, with the current nomination, she is now close to the ruling party. Sokun Mealea earned a degree in French foreign language, Law from the Royal Administration School.
Reached over the phone, she announced that “she will start her new job next week. I joined the government because I wish to serve the country by bringing in my knowledge. I am still a NRP member. It is not an opposition party, but I keep my distance to criticize the government, in a constructive manner. In this party, we criticize to help the government moves in the right direction.”
Norodom Ranariddh left his NRP president position to Chhim Seak Leng to serve as the supreme advisor to the king. With Sokun Mealea, another important NRP party member abandons all her opposition to the CPP ruling party.

Most of khmer officials are clinging to power without real education. Perhap, I can categorised them as a street smart person. Street smart person are smart but no real concrete and deep thinking like an educated person who earn their degrees through a legitimate schools.
Therefore, these leaders need foreigners to back them up, such as Youn & Siam.
Compare former khmer king to thai king; thai king received his education from US and former khmer king received his high school degree from Vietname. Most of thai leaders are educated, UK & US. All khmer leaders, CPP, had know real former education.
Just make comparison my khmer brothers and sisters.
I wish to see out leaders have a real legitimate education.

I admire that she has the courage to say "I am still an NRP member" despite being appointed to work in an administration dominated by the CPP. Sun Sukun Mealea was a very strong anti-CPP and Vietnamese interference in the Cambodian affairs when she was a student. She has resisted a temptation to defect to the CPP many times. Now time has changed. Her party has joined the government, therefore she has to work within the framework of the govt. Most of her senior colleagues have defected. I would wish her good luck in her new job because she needs to feed her family too.

While Mealea talked with me, and even I didn't have confidence on her for many reasons, but she sound so true while talking that I was going to believe what she said. Strong conviction antiyuon, anti cpp, those are the arms that mealea used to infiltrated among overseas Khmer communities and intellectuals.
As specific people of her kind or colleges picked by psychopathy, mealea specially know how to lie and conviction people to believe in her life. A particularly skill needed in her profession as politichien. She was really true in her lies that she is ready to believe in her own lying and can convict people to believe in her lies. You cant judge what true what real or what is their real thinking while mealea or people of her kind tell you something.

hene, cant get over it, pocket, party, own interest, stomach, family those are your supreme reason running policy that why your people always live in that misery of basic needs
as long as your people live for that and can do anything just for that, your society, your country will always in that misery untill one day you try to get over it.
Over all, it is not only reason of stomach but it is become an attitude and a culture, a mentality of those who actually live in Cambodia. Those are what khmer rouge and cpp always did, accept to do anything even become assassins, slaves of yuons or yuon killing tools just for satisfy one material thirst and evilness

You don't know anything about Thai Kings so please don't make a foolish comment.
Thai Kings: old brother King Mahidol was born in Germany and he was educated in Germany and England, because of his parents lived there. He didn't have to spend time in schools that long like us commoners. He received degrees. One would wonder why did he receive degrees so young and how much did he know from learning?
Young brother King Aduljadeh was born in Boston MA, educated in the US and Switzerland. He too received degrees without spending so much times. He is good in playing Jazz.
King Sihanouk was born in Phnom Penh and he went to french School in PP at the time the French still ruled over Laos , Cambodia and Vietnam. In fact he continued his secondary French school located in South Vietnam not Viet School. Then he was sent to the Military School called Ecole Saumur in France.
If Thailand was under French, those Kings would had been sent to the same Schools as King Sihanouk did. King Sihanouk was known as a very intelligent student.
Thai Monarchy is extremely rich from all the treasures they took from Cambodia since they sacked Angkor Wat.
Among these 3 Kings, King Sihanouk was a highly French eductaed King.
If you want to blame him for being a French educated, then you are not worth to discuss with.
So your comparaison is no use. King Sihanouk has a better education than the rich Thai Kings both brothers combined.
If you want to compare and teach your people, please do some re-search before you trash anyone.
To your ignorant Cambodians, King Sihanouk is nothing but to other world politicians, he remains a mystery man with a highly intelligent inspite of his poor country surrounded by the powerful enemies, and engaged with the superpowerful nations during cold war. King Sihanouk is still alive while King Mahidol was executed in his own bedroom and King Aduljadeh is facing more troubles caught between US and China.
The world politics continues to be more troubles, nothing has changed since Macedonians ruled the world until now. The street smart with the strong minds will survive that is the law of nature.
See what happened to Cambodians? If they do search and learn from it, they may not have killed and hated each others so much.

If you have times spend a few hours dig up News at other part of the world non-communist nations, you will find plenty of problems that have intruders intrigue in their governments not only Cambodia.
Most European countries now heading to major culture clash. Because too many illegal/legal immigrants keep pouring into their countries.
It is up to us to use our wisdom how to engage with the problems.
Use them to serve Cambodia like Sarkozy, French President used some Muslim and African to serve France.
If you treat them with kindness they will love and die for the country they were born, but if you keep singing of racism song and treating them like they are outcast, you will end up to be a minority group in your own land.
I'm sure Sarkozy hates those immigrants but he is smart. Change your tune if you love Cambodia and wants her to survive.
Cambodian yuon case is incomparable to other situation and other countries existed in this planet. There is about 5% of immigrant in French comparing to about 50% or over of yuons in Cambodia. Those people just come for survive in French with all difficulties and discriminations they have to face before being accepted to settle in French. Some can wait and work for years for French yet still never be accepted by French. French has total control of these migrants even they live in French over years. These people are treated by French like slaves or inferior class citizen with very limit rights and privileges. Whatver French can says or shows to the world as a model of equality or democracy but French has a very rude racist (invisible) system regarding these migrants to keep them slaves and inferiors to French or other white skin people. Yet those migrants are neither assassins nor invaders as the yuons in Cambodia who come as assassins and murderers. For those yuons, one Cambodia killed means a free place for more one yuon to come in Cambodia. So yuons who come and live in Cambodia come following a worse criminal expansionist and genocidal led by the yuons to free land and natural resources for yuons as the world can testified through Khmer rouge and communism.
Although I’m opened if these yuons consider themselves as Khmer and work Khmer interest but it wont happened because I never saw this kind of yuons yet. I only see those yuons who born and lived in Cambodia for generation but still bind to yuons and blindly works for yuons interest or policy against Cambodia at the price of their life as those Khmer rouge cadres. First of all, remember, I’m not a politician leading act of policy I just tell the truth whether it doesn’t pleat to certain ,that not my problem.
What I want to say is, my people and I have look beyond Mealea appearance and have gave her chance to prove her goodwill for Cambodia this is why we supported and helped her and her people in their fight. We welcome her and her friends with sincere heart, cares and opened arms but I believe Khmer should be aware of this kind of people even with all good lies they can tell you. Final point.

French picked a young playboy teenager Prince to embarass Khmer monarchy because they thought he was dumb, but he was very smart boy. He finished his primary school at Ecole jean-Francois Baudoin in Phnom Penh, and he went to continue his education at Lycee Chasseloup in South called Saigon, then he finally was sent to the Millitary school called Ecole Saumur in France. The King understood the poor conditions of his nation, he has never bragged of his education.
All rulers of Cambodia were born in Cambodia, and most new rulers of Thailand were born in foreign land. Two Kings were born outside Thailand, and this new PM Abhisit Vejjajiva also born and educated in England. After Siam coup d'etat in 1933 outsted the absolute Siam monarchy and dictator PM, then the powerful Siam military invited new teenager Siam Princes and their family to Thailand, the old brother became King in 1935, King Ananda Mahidol. He was assassinated in 1946.
You Cambodians may not believe it, Ho Chi Minh had his office in Bangkok Office (found written in his documents in 1930's), the Siam Communists were already formed just like in Cambodia.
Was King Mahidol so involved with Ho Chi Minh and Communist China back then? Was he aware Siam-US treaty since 1788?
During the cold war and war between French and Viet, the US helped France faced major problems, and if its allies like Siam turned away. What'd happened? Japan secretely helped Viet Communist against the west. I didn't add Korean yet, but they were in this circle too.
Why wouldn't King Mahidol be assassinated? When his young brother, a US born became King, and so who murdered King Mahidol?
Thailand's influenced by the US and under new King Aduljadeh, there're military base located in Thailand attacking Vietnam and bombed Cambodia.
Now ask ourselves, who killed King Mahidol? it's CIA not KGB not his young brother King Aduljadeh. He is always sad and stopped smiling.
Once you joined gang, you cannot run away with it. Thailand has treaty with the US, and when King Mahidol wanted to break away, he was shot in the head while he was sleeping. King Mahidol knew that Communist would win, but too late to change.
King Sihanouk knew what's going on. He had no other options but to form two groups, one was Lon Nol with the US and one Khiev Samphan with Communist.
When US found out, CIA went after him; and when Communist Vietnam found out they too went after to kill him.
Can you blame King Sihanouk for having North Korean bodyguards?
Now can you see, the Vietnamese and Thais come back? These two have tried to vacuum Cambodia the same as they did in the past.
