Thai Foreign Minister: Please do not incite a dispute, we acknowledge that Cambodia has been suffering for a long time

Koh Santepheap newspaper

17th-18th January, 2009
Reported in English by Khmerization

According to a Thai website published on 16th January, 2009 Mr. Kasit Piromya has talked a lengths about the state of affairs of Thailand, including the Thai economy, Thai diplomacy and the border issues with Cambodia. The site reported that Mr. Kasit was trying to project a good image of Thailand, an image that has been suffering negative portrayals in recent times, to the international community.

Touching on the Preah Vihear border issues with Cambodia, Mr. Kasit said that Thailand and Cambodia had the same base of traditions for nearly two thousand years. These traditions are the factors that bind the two countries' ties together.

He said the Franco-Siam Treaty of 1904-1907, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding of 2000, are sufficient to use as a base for the solving of all outstanding border issues between the two countries.

He said that both governments have only supporting (technical) roles in the resolutions of the border issues between the two countries. He said that Cambodia and Thailand must educate their respective citizens not to twist the history, not to use their internal politics and untra-nationalism to incite border disputes. He said that (the Thai PM) Mr. Abhisit will not use these things to advance Thailand's border agenda with Cambodia.

Mr. Kasit said that Mr. Abhisit has requested the media, who had the role of bonding the ties between the two countries, not to generate any debates that can incite conflict between the two countries. Mr. Kasit said: "I understand that Cambodia has been suffering because of the genocide, so please do not make Cambodia suffer more. We should promote the civilsations of both countries on an equal level."

During the demonstartions at Suwanaphumi and Don Muang airpots, in December 2008, Mr. Kasit has been reportedly as declaring publicly that he will use Mr. Hun Sen's blood to clean his feet.//

Now he is trying to play a good guy after he politicized Preah Vihear to put his party in power. Judge politicians by their actions not by their words.

He is a bad guy, He look down CAMBODIAN.

Hun Sen may be bad or worst in Cambodia affairs but he's the head of Cambodia government.

Kasit inflammatory statement toward Hun Sen,"he will use Hun Sen blood to wash his feet," is intoleratable and too improper in diplomacy.

Kasit talks like a drunk that reflects typical Siam trait"Siam minn jorl kha:buon," and ethnocentrism.

Yes, judge a politician by his actions, not his words. Kasit's actions in the past were the opposite of his present words. It remains to be seen if he is a good guy toward Cambodia or not, but all Thai politicians put the interests of Thiland first, so Kasit will be no different from other Thai politicians. I don't think he will soften his position regarding the Preah Vihear border issues.

Right,Cambodia has not been able to master the rallying point to stand as one without pitting one group against other.

Cambodia border matter is a national not political party.

Yuon or Siam can't be trusted on words only.

Thailand existed around Khmer around the 12th century; therefore, Khmer and Siam can't have the same tradition for more than two thousand years. Cambodia existence at it location since prior to Christian Era. Siam absoarded Khmer territory and Khmer people as it own.

Yes, Khmer lost the war and territory but Khmer has not lost it history as Siam has been manipulating the world about Khmer history.

It doesn't sound logic at all that the Thai saying that we (Khmer) should not incite the problems of Prasat Preah Vihear.

It should be the other way around.
Thai have had incited this issue throughout their transition.

We Khmer, must tell the Thai that we are not kid that suck and that candy.

This is Khmer's property. They must respect the sovereignty.

They have been violated Cambodia time after time.

We must not let them proud of themself during the ASEAN summit.

Khmer must address to all members of ASEAN or the world body the observe this summit.

Thai have no shame!!

Down the THAI!!!

What the fucking joke .. Ah fucking Siam leader feel sorry for Khmer people? What kind of trick you are playing now ? you fucking murderer..you Siam leaders and Hun sen are nothing but a bunch of Killers..

On ASEAN summit, like it or not,Sa:hay( as Comrade) Kasit will be the Chairman of big talk ASEAN club until 2010.

In all aspects, via its Charter, Cambodia needs to refocus Thai violation on Cambodia sovereignty and demand reparation to the death families.

Hun Sen or Hor Nam Hong needs more than big mouth talk to counter Siam hypocrisy on borderline not just Preah Vihear.

Not only in Cambodia that has criminals and psycho as leaders like polpot, ieng sary, kieuv, sihanouk, hun sen and the rest of their clan but it is same in Thailand. The difference is those criminals who baste terrors, shames and crimes against Khmer are topped by foreigners but the Siamese chose it by their own.

Shame to ah Siamese. these siamese leaders are not any better from the khmer rouge of yuons

During Thaksin's rule or his administration, he oppressed the Islam people in the southern Thai with serious human rights violation and the Thai news hardly broadcast them out to its citizen.

If you go to google and type "Thailand oppression in southern Thai youtube" you might see alot of cruesome and horrifying scenes. Or you can type "Thai kill muslim Thai in southern Thai youtube". There are many many horrble scenes. The Thai didn't show them but Malaysia shown them all.

The world look at Thai as the world most human rights violator.

Soon, these Muslim will break away from Thai.

hi, I feel sorry for your people. It is shameful for Thailand to commit such the crimes against poor people who just ask to survive and on the other hand, Thailand tried to show the world that it is a role model of modernity, opening and democratic country in SEA. I believe there exist other solutions much human and benefited to everyone to resolve this conflict than these much unnecessary animosities against Muslim people. But if you comparing Thais to the viets, it is not different but even worse, viets have almost eradicated (executed) Muslim or chams race from Vietnam, there rest few muslim there, they even dare to rise a voice against all crimes that viets committed against them. Have you ever think about it? Dont you ever think that some of your people are the survival of the massacre of viets committed against your people

I don't trust this Kasit because he wants to win at all cause.

Every one here need to be caution of propaganda. When Khmerization takes one blogger word, that in Kasit's speech that he will use Mr. Hun Sen's blood to wash his feet, is not credible at all. We should question ourselves how could you beleive this blogger? Is there any concrete proof? I dare anyone here to show me more than just one or two pharagraghs from the blogger.

If you can speak Thai just go to Kasit youtube. It will tell you all.

I am Khmer living Surin. This bastard did say serious about HUN SEN and Khmer.

Please don't be hesitate to look them up in google "Kasit Youtube".

For those Muslim in the Southern Thai, I did look at the video footage about how Thai retaliated and oppressed the the Muslim brother demonstrators. They are we crucial to even see.

Wow, I was shock!

What if Hun Sen cut this barbarian Kasit's head off and wash his feet with Kasit's Blood. This Bastard Kasit should be more civilized in this 20th century.

Forget about the story that in 16th century Thai king Naresuon, after capturing LongVek, cut the head of Khmer king Chey Chettha. This is not true. Chey Chettha escaped to Vientiane.

I'm proud to share the same blood as our king's used to wash Thai king. Because our king was rebel and could not stand for his country's invasion. Atleast, he was not a coward. We were defeated because we were militarily weak not because we were mentally weak.
They could take our blood but not our will, they could take our body but not our soul. Our will, our soul of loving our country. Invaders have always failed in Cambodia.

What happened is that Khmer used to be the ruler of all smaller states that we control before. Example Sokhothai, Ayuthiya kingdom was under Khmer rulers until then the betrayed Khmer's warlords and zone commanders conspired with the Thai and revolted against its master (Khmer). Cause the Khmer generals or commanders back then want to be Sdach Kranh. One example was Ramakomhaeng or Khmer called Reameakomhaeng. Sena- Chakrey or Thai Chakri etc. All those Thai were once born from Khmer's blood. Now that they want to value Khmer instead they look down on Khmer. What ashame of them.
You can change you look, but you can't change the history. Look at the wall of Angkor Wat, we have carved every peace of history on the wall.

Khmer will rule you one day again!!!

6:33am, Some Khmer Surin who are still considering themselves as Khmer are not happy with the Thai invasion of Preah Vihear. However, the majority of Khmer Surin, who can't speak Khmer and who consider themselves Thai, don't care anything about Preah Vihear. They just want to live happily as Thai citizens.

On a historical note, Khmer must remember that the Thai are very good at patronizing, it's been happening in the past. They say all the good things about us, but they will swallow us when we are hypnotized by their sweet words.

Thai PM holds talks on migrant abuse claims

Survivor accounts and reports from rights groups suggest up to 1,000 members of a Muslim minority from Myanmar washed up on Thai shores late last year, were detained, and then towed out to sea in barges with no engines.

Deputy government spokesman Buddhipongse Punnakanta said Premier Abhisit Vejjajiva met members of the National Human Rights Commission and other rights officials on Monday to discuss the matter.

"The prime minister told the commission not to worry about the Rohingya case," he told reporters. "He assigned all the government authorities involved to keep him up-to-date."

Hundreds of members of the Rohingya ethnic group from western Myanmar near the Bangladesh border have been rescued in waters around India and Indonesia, but hundreds more are feared missing or dead.

Indian coast guard officials said the migrants told of being beaten by Thai soldiers and sent to sea with no equipment and a few bags of rice.

Witnesses have reportedly said that some of the detainees were beaten within metres of foreign tourists on a remote Thai island off the coast of the self-styled "Land of Smiles".

Thailand's navy has denied the allegations and the foreign ministry is investigating, while Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said Monday that the defence minister had also been tasked with handling the matter.

"I was primarily informed that the soldiers did not do that. There are several pictures... I believe we can find out the truth," he told reporters.

"I myself believe the officers did not do such a thing because Thai people have generosity and kindness."

The Indian coast guard has since December rescued 446 of the boat people, most of them members of the Rohingya and a handful from Bangladesh.

Another 200 foreigners, again mostly Rohingya, were found off the northern tip of Indonesia's Sumatra island earlier this month.

Although the exact details of their treatment in Thailand and their onward journey remain unclear, human rights groups and the UN refugee agency have called on the Thai government to immediately clarify the issue.

Gothom Arya, the director of Mahidol University's research centre for peace building, attended Monday's meeting, but said that the matter of the Rohingya was only discussed for about 15 minutes.

"He (Abhisit) restated his position that this is certainly not the government position and he also stressed that he mentioned the issue to the military, and they also confirmed to him that they respect the human rights of everyone including migrants," Gothom told AFP.

"We made it clear that we still have to have the facts. The policy is alright, but what about the facts? He said he will ask for factual clarification from the officials... What is important is the follow-up."

Rights groups say the Rohingya are stateless and face persecution from Myanmar's military regime, forcing thousands into rickety boats each year to try to escape poverty and oppression and head to Muslim-majority Malaysia.

Thailand has for the past few years taken a harsh stance on Rohingya landing on its shores, in part because they wanted to discourage further migration of the group through Thailand.

I observed that many Khmers, nationalists or not, are trapped by this so-called Preah Vihear issue.

I think you are playing CPV/CPP game without knowing that you lead yourself to heinous destruction.

Clever maneuver by Kasit, first you stabb em, then bandage & sympathy with Khmers by throwing in a word of "genocide".

Thailand CANNOT by TRUSTED as the neighbor because Thais are very racist people on earth. So, Kasit wanted to wash his feet with Khmers' blood. I say Kasit is the NEW JIHAD OF SOUTHEAST ASIA.

WHAT'S A TERRORIST LIKE HIM HELD A POSITION IN THE GOVERNMENT FOR?
