Son Kinh with an ambition to preserve culture of the Khmer
03/02/2009
VietNamNet Bridge – A small room filled with wooden statues serves as a gallery for cultural features of the Khmer people and an ambition to preserve the culture of the Khmer of Son Kinh.
Son Kinh, a 78-year-old artisan of Bung Chong Hamlet, Tai Van Commune, My Xuyen District in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang, has 50 years of experience as a carver. His works are made in shapes of animals such as dinosaur, deer, horse, monkey, birds, tiger, elephant and snakes, as well as shapes of musical instruments of Khmer people and weapons for actors on stage.
His strong passion for art developed when he was young. He went to the forest and took stumps and carved them in shapes of animals. He also spent seven years learning the art of carving from the monk Luc Ta Pech at Baichhau Pagoda in My Xuyen District
After getting married, he became a rice farmer and continued his ambition to create worthy and interesting works. With his talented hands he turned stumps and waste pieces of wood into works featuring cultural features of the Khmer people, including the statues of Sita Princess, Hanuman monkey and towers and characters of Robam stage. Some his works are displayed in local pagodas such as Baichhau, Ta Mol, bung Sa.
“I’m absorbed in art; I will teach anyone who wants to learn without payment. I hope the young generations will preserve the Khmer people’s culture,” said Son Kinh.
His dream came true when his son Son Kol, 40, and his nephew Son Nhat Anh, 12, became interested in carving art and started studying with him.

It is interesting that KK is the only minority group in Vietnam to whine, and cry constantly about oppression ... .
On the other hand, no one ever heard the Cham in Vietnam ever whine or complaining about oppression or anything.
What is wrong with this picture?
Just who are they (KK) trying to fool?

1:42 you mother fucker why you fucking head Vietnamese goat face so fucking stupid ! Ever you fucking brain read or heard about the Moutagnar from Vietname that escape Your fucking evil Viet every day?
You idiot (10:05), Montagnard is the same as KK. The difference is they just love to live on the mountain.
Hello All:
It is very interesting in Son, Kinh who is trying to keep our khmer culture alive. Don't complaim each other guys! We gain nothing, but benifit for communist.
Look at Viet Namese community abroad, they even took pictures and visted Viet Namese communiti who live in Cambodia.
How namy times does our top leaders visting KK per century? Recently, Heng Xam rin, including our Prince and Ect...
They did not even mention about, Why? Do KK carry some of viruses?
Thanks
Indeed KK caries plenty of virus. Throughout history, they have no respect for Khmer and Cambodia. They traded their land for viet women as they please... .
And during the cold war, they collaborated with cia to coup Khmer King, ... .
Now tell me. Who will want to see their stinky faces after all that?
of course, it makes sense to preserve your khmer identity. you are only separated by the political map, once khmer will always be khmer!
Why is there so much complains from KK? In Cambodia, more than half of the population (8million) is yuon, we we don't have any problem whatsoever.
The Montagnard are actually subjects of the Cham civilization. So if you want to be technical, they are Chams. Ignorant mind speak out ignorant words.
Chams also struggle for rights and culture. and They have come together to remind themselves of your evil colonization of their land. But you don't hear about it cause your ear not open.
And mostly, Cham have been completely wiped out in terms of civilization so how can they have a voice as strong as Khmer today? Your reign of culture genocide will not be allow to continue any longer among the people you plunder their lands of Youn!
Bullshit, most of the montagnard who crossed into Cambodia speak Khmer, not Cham.
Furthermore, according to wiki, among the 30 tribes or so, none speaks Cham, except for Khmer-mon, Tai, and Malay, but Khmer is more dominant in the south than Thi and Malay.
"The 30 or so Degar tribes in the Central Highlands comprise more than six different ethnic groups who speak languages drawn primarily from the Malayo-Polynesian, Tai, and Mon-Khmer language families. "
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Degar
Thus, Montagnard is KK who live on the mountain.
