National Park on Cambodian border reopens to tourists

SI SA KET, Feb 10 (TNA) - Thailand's Khao Phra Viharn National Park in the northeastern province of Si Sa Ket bordering Cambodia has reopened for tourism on Tuesday.

Si Sa Ket governor Seni Jittakasem said earlier that Second Army Region commander Lt-Gen. Wiboonsak Neepal had approved a provincial proposal to reopen Thailand's Preah Vihear historical area for tourists after its temporary closure last year.

The national park on the Thai-Cambodian border has been closed since July 2008 due to the border dispute between the two neighbouring countries.

Mr. Seni said that he and other officials had submitted letters to Lt-Gen. Wiboonsak and the Department of National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation to ask for reopening the site for tourism as the situation along the border has now returned to normal.

Tension rose after Preah Vihear was awarded heritage status by the United Nations last year. The International Court of Justice ruled in 1962 that the 11th-century Preah Vihear temple belongs to Cambodia, but the demarcation of the surrounding land remains in dispute.

Four Cambodian soldiers were killed in an exchange of gunfire with Thai troops along a disputed section of the border last July.

The official ceremony of the national park, including Kantharalak district's Pha Mor-E-Daeng cliff, is set for early April.

I suggest Thailand rename "Khao Phra Viharn National Park" into "The Area Adjacent to Cambodia's Phreah Vihear Nationa Park" because who the hell knows what Phra Viharn is? Everyone will only say, "Damn, that sounds familiar. Doesn't it sound similar to Cambodia's Preah Vihear? The one that's listed as a UNESCO Heritage Site?"

Let them do, what they wanted. The well educated people understood, that Siam did not have their own culture. Preah Vihear bolong to all Khmer, also Khmer Mon and Khmer Champa, but not a single Siam or Thai.

I just wonder that All Khmer don't want Siam attach Preah Vihear as the Siam's sound to our Temple, actually we seem accept what Siam raise the new name for our Preah Vihear Temple as the all Cambodia Medias public and many Cambodians start to know this name clearly. I think that this is its step to raise the new name for Preah Vihear Temple and also It's successful if some of you know the new name of Preah Vihear. I should be ignorant if some one call my name wrong

land boundary still not properly demarcated. thailand still violated the international treaty of 1907. siem has no concept of an exception to the rule when they claimed that the watershed was the actual boundary. of course, but there are some area like the preah vihear temple surroundings that was an exception to the rule. that's why the international treaty was signed and ratified then. it goes to show how ignorant they can be, the siem people! they have no concept of an exception to the rule law; it's like they want to go in a straight line from point A to point B, violating the international treaty and treaty in the process. anybody in the world can see that! cambodia will keep pushing it so siem can understand the exception to this rule as the treaty was so stated, particularly in the sensitive area of cambodia's preah vihear temple complex!

First, ah Siam have right to do what ever they wanted within their boundary, call the way they wanted to; but remember dear compatriots the world opinion did not change.
This new Siamese tactic is want to cover their velain attitud and their dirty ambicious toward Khmer neighbour that, they don't want trouble with Khmer, everything is OK they're a nation want and love peace, they expected the world opinions will buy.
In fact their intention to invade our country is remain in full force. Ah Siam and Ah Yuon need to destroy Khmer, Khmer Nation is giving them so much irritation in their eyes.

God bless Khmer all!
