Hi! Guys, I also would like to share my congratulate to H.E Manet Hun as a one golden star general, but one thing I would like to have a clarification from you (H.E Hun). The west point Academy is a good school, they don't teach people to corrupt their own country. If you are proud of receiving one golden star general, but please disclose the recruitment process from the government or from the King palace. If the king sign the decree without reviewing the recruitment process, then it will be useless of this golden star.
We know that you were educated in a good democracy school in the USA, but please do think of the value you have invested in the school, then no competitive process, it's mean no value at all. it's the same as other generals, but even low value than other generals, because they have working back ground, but you don't.
H.E. You should think about it and should maintain you valuable time you have spent in West Point Academy.

What Cambodia needs at level of leadership, but is lacking at present are values like ethics, wisdom and humanity. After all, it has been the absence of these values rather than academic credentials among the nation's elite and its offsprings that has brought the nation to its knees.
Khiev Samphan, Ieng Sary, 'Duc' (Director of Toul Sleng), Khiev Ponnary, all were exceptional talents of their generation. Khiev Samphan was educated at a reknown French university; Ieng Sary and Duc excelled in mathematics. . .and there is another KR talent who wrote his doctoral thesis on the organisation of Cambodian agrarian economy (I think this man is still at large today) which probably coupled with Pol Pot's enthusiasm for mass mobilisation - as practised in Yugoslavia - set the foundation for the mismanagement of the country's agricultural landscape that was to follow. Many teachers and students also opted to join the KR rank in the 1970s, and Duc, a maths teacher, was just one of them.
It is beyond me why society still views having certain abilities such as one to do with maths as something to be singled out for admiration or praise over and above other acquired skills or talents. A peaceful and harmoneous community is one which accords all its members equal opportunities to realise their creative potential in terms of their intellectual and social requirements or needs.
Those skills that help to nourish society's spiritual development is just as valuable as being able to run an enterprise or command an army. The challenge is to find balance in all activities.
The progress Cambodia has made since 1979 can be said to have been painfully slow or remarkably drastic depends upon one's viewpoint. Overall, there has been a period of peace among ordinary population - something which is quite difficult to achieve in the country's long unhappy history. On the other hand, the nation has been denied what it clearly deserves after so much suffering, a speedier transition to civil society and democracy by the single most critical element needed for such transformation: benign human material.
For all his faults, perhaps, Hun Sen has done something right to have determined that his son should be educated in a climate quite dissimilar to the worlds which would have been far better known to him. Perhaps, recognising that the most serious threat to his regime has its source in the West in the form of foreign governments and growing Cambodians schooled there, not to mention the disparaging comments he has to endure daily from some of them, having an heir to the throne drawn from among their ranks would not be such a bad move.
Certainly, I wish him all the best and hope that having been spared all the brutalities of his father's generation and tasted liberal climate of the West he will prove to be a positive influence on his long-suffering country.

The brute and raw leadership quality was essential in the handling of Cambodia's politics after such tumultous time the country had to pass through earlier. However, it has been a long and enough time that Cambodia should rise to a differrent level of political maturity. Cambodia needs to shed some of the old ways, or risking with having perpetual stagnation in all political, economic, and social developments.
This might be a good opportunity for Cambodia to become a modern and stable society. Cambodia needs a leader who will be intelligent and charismatic enough to utilize both inside and outside resources to develop into a modern state where laws and orders prevail and democracy strives.

Manet graduated from West Point at age 21 in 1999. He subsequently worked for his graduate degrees. He should be around 30 years old by now, which is not really an unsual age to have graduate degrees or promotion. However, people would like to know how he has used his military skills to attain the "one-star" position. Regardless of what his father has done, he should be proud of his educational achievements.

He is a very humble, down to earth, smart, and educated man. He studied very hard in Cambodia, the U.S., France, and England. Once thing I really admire him is he genuinely cares about the poor (most of his friends are ordinary poor students). I once asked him in New York "what do you want to do in life?". He said, then, "Ideally, humanitarian work but whatever I may end up doing, that will always one of my high priority in life".

I'm happy to see that one there is another follower of the good example of our good humanitarian young lady woman who her goal is to bring peace to cambodia and around her and around world.
I saw her one time and two ttimes when she came to cambodia to meet with HM King Sihamoni and to meet Queen Sophia and to meet also with Prince from Swedish. The time I saw her she always give money to the poor and help the poor to do this and that. I remember her like Princess Cambodia because she looks like the royal famili members and has a very very very GOOD and BIG BIG HEART. Regarding Hun Manet, there was a slot open for Cambodia which was suppose to be filled by the best Cambodian but because Cambodia was ruled by Hun Sen, they choose Hun Sen's son. If Pol Pot was to be a ruler of that time, it would be Pol Pot's son. Therefore, Hun Manet was chosen not because of his scholarly achievement but by connection.
