BANGKOK, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- A meeting of the Joint Commission on Demarcation for Land Boundary (JCB) between Thailand and Cambodia Wednesday failed to agree on issues of border demarcation and name of the ancient temple in the center of the two countries' border dispute.
The two sides announced at a JBC press conference they could not sign a memory of understanding (MOU) concerning the two points which were discussed at the meeting organized in Bangkok.
Var Kim Hong, Cambodia senior Minister in charge of Border Affairs said: "We tried hard to find compromised solutions for the interest of the two countries. But, we don't agree in some points, which are needed to be discussed and clarified."
The two sides could not agree on the name of the ancient temple as it is called Preah Vihear by Cambodia while Thailand calls it Phra Viharn, cited Hong.
Thailand has proposed to use the name of Preah Vihear/Phra Viharn, co-chair of Thai side Vasin Teeravechyan said.
Also, the meeting failed to name a joint patrol around the ancient temple as Thailand has proposed to call the "military monitoring groups" while Cambodia has suggested to call the "temporary coordinating team."
Vasin said the next JBC meeting will be held during the second week of April this year in Cambodia.
In October last year Cambodian and Thai troops exchanged fire on their disputed border area, killing two and wounding a dozen.
Prior to the clash, the ownership of the ancient temple caused both sides to maintain military stalemate near the border for weeks.
Rounds of meetings were held, but all failed to find common ground on the border issues to break the stand-off. The two countries have 790-km-long border line, but only with 73 border posts.

Thailand is talking baloney about co-names for the temple. World leaders are watching this negotiation process and will weigh up on each side’s attitude and corporation. It’s a waste of time and deceiving its counterpart for naming the temple in the meeting.
Thai acts as a home invader and claims what does not really belong to them be handed over. It’s stealing in this case!
How does Thailand expect the country’s future image turn out to be in the eyes of the world community; a hero or a thief?
Let the local names the temple and done with it. Stop bullshitting with Ah Khmer Leu wannabe.
Thailand clearly show wnats a piece of Khmer Temple. That's why do not agree to name Preah Vihear
This is bullshit, and Cambodian government is stupid. Just follow legal framework and put the aggressor on shame. You never reach any agreement with Thais. Why don't Khmer negotiate to rename Bangkok to Beoung Kok???
Just wasting time, efforts, money for nothing.
Thailand is trying its dirty trick to use Prah viharn as a weapon to claim owner of the temple and surrounding land. The world community knows this temple is Khmers; why Thailand is trying to meddling what Khmer should call their temple? Can Thailand behave like a friendly neighbor it claim itself to be? Cambodia just want peace and go about rebuild their country and why can't just THAILAND LIVE THEM ALONE?
Simple. Do not give a sh-t about what Thai want. PREAH VIHEAR forever.
Go to hell Thai! Why not we change Bangkok to Bang-COCK ? This Thai are so crazy, fool, no shame at all. Why Mr. Hun Sen still talk to them for ?
Cambodian sovereignty is non-negotiable!
Fuck off you Siem!
Thai is so ridiculous! i can't imagine such a stupid claiming from high constitution from Thai government. Cambodia rightfully own the temple, Preah Vihear, so Thai government has no right to ask Cambodia to rename the temple.
To me, Thai government is trying to make more discrimination and provoke war. Thai government is trying to find a reason to invade Cambodia.
What a Poor Stupid Thai Nation!!!
Wrong, everything is negotiable.
border military standoff can be used as scapegoat for vietnamization. don't be too reactive with siam encroachment. I mean don't mistakenly see that khmers must not react with siam encroachment. but see how long already that the border issues have taken our nerves and attention? again is the border confrontation "a political or technicall issue"? and why khmer government still restrain itself from reacting militarily or legally? what's wrong with the government?
so i say the border issue is just one of scapegoat to blind local people's attention over the life-death matter of vietnamization!
not to say about changing of thai governments and foreign ministers and talks back and forth for no happy ending!
Speaking about Preah Vihear:
I would like to appeal for the Thai government not to name Phra Viharn, instead to name Preah Vihea!
It is very logic to say that Preah Vihea temple is historically belonged to Cambodia for many decades ago.
I would suggest the Thai govenrment and its people to study or revise the history of Thailand and Cambodia. Who is Cambodia and who is Thailand?
Please you do not play trick on Cambodia!
If you claim to use Phra Viharn, I will claim to use Beuk Kok (Bangkok)!
One more think, I want to comment here: do not forget our closest friend! It also uses some faked names of our land, such as Phnom Penh__Nam Yang, Chbar Ampoa___Siagon Meuy, Toul Tumpuong__Cao Dai,etc. These names will be also revised in the future.
Who wishes to be enemy of Cambodia, will never win Cambodia!
Hean Padhi
the real truth is khmer people do not wish to be enemies with siem people, we just want siem people to respect what's rightfully ours i.e. what our great khmer ancestors left for us, khmer. of course, we rather want to make friends with siem people, that why we are patient and try to work with siem people, however, we want siem people to give courtesy to us, khmer, too. i think when siem people stop being too greedy and stop gourging everything for themselves, then khmer people can appreciate them more. until siem people show khmer people unbias, undiscriminated and show us that they want to be our friends, then can khmer people do the same, otherwise, it's just a one-way street, and that's not fair for cambodia; so, don't expect the same from us, then! i hope siem people think about it.
