Representatives of the working group from the tourism private sector and officials from the ministry of Tourism will meet each other on Thursday 12 February, to stimulate a restart in tourist activities which were hit hard in 2008 from the worldwide economic crisis.
Ho Vandy, the former president of the Association of tourist agencies in Cambodia, declared that the private tourist sector will submit several proposals to the ministry, and that it hopes that the ministry will take them into serious consideration.
The private sector’s proposals mainly point to a lowering price of the “tourist package,” such as, lower cost for airfare, lower access fee to tourist sites managed by private companies, lower hotel cost, as well as lower visa fee. “We want to offer a special tourist package to face the crisis period,” Ho Vandy said. “If the government accepts it, we hope to pull up the tourist sector,” he indicated.
Since the crisis affected the tourist sector in Cambodia, people involved in this sector are complaining about a significant loss of revenue. Each year, Cambodia welcomes more than 2 million visitors who spend more than $1.4 billion. In 2008, the number of visitors increased only by 5%, this is much lower that the 17% growth recorded in 2007.

It doesn't matter how much you do for the people. When you have Ah Greedy Scam Rainxy's constantly sabotage on your effort for his own gain, people will continued to suffer.
i think the tourist sector with the cooperation of the ministry of tourism of cambodia should ask the gov't to look into expanding cambodia's international airports so to accommodate long distance, direct flights form europe the USA, , etc... because as of now, cambodia's tourism is so dependent on flights form thailand, etc... as our airports can't handle the direct, long haul flights from europe, the USA, etc... it is time for gov't to focus on improving cambodia's airports, infrastructure. etc so we can receive more tourists who prefer to fly directly into cambodia instead of making many stopover in thailand, etc... one way that can help is to have gov't to ask the airport manager to expand the airfield to at least 3500 meters as cambodia do not have an airfield this length at all in the whole country. common, when are they going to realize this and get to work to improve traveling choices in our country? otherwise, of course, cambodia will forever depend on thailand and other airports for tourism in cambodia. please look into demanding more airfields with runway of at least 3500 meters in cambodia so larger planes can land safely in cambodia. what took so long? please be smart about this as cambodia is competing for tourists. thank you.
yes, one way to solve this decrease in tourist number is to make serious expansion for our international airports to at least 3500 meters in length in order to compete and handle large jets landing. because, right now our airports are still very small in comparision to our neighboring countries' airports. please wake up, cambodia! and look around to improve our infrastructure so our people can live better and our country can compete, too. god bless cambodia.
It's funny how Ah Khmer Kandal can claimed the tip of the mountain belong to them while they don't have anything up there, never live there, and don't even speak the dialect of Khmer on the mountain.
