Three Japanese Maritime Self-defense Force (JMSDF) ships arrived at Cambodia's Sihanoukville port on Monday for a five-day goodwill visit, said a police officer there.
The three ships arrived on Monday morning and docked at the Sihanoukville port directly because of their medium size, said Yen Bunnath, a senior police officer for the Preah Sihanouk province.
There are 620 soldiers on the ships, he added.
The visit of Setoyuki, Sawayuki and Shimakaze was an endorsed event that aimed to commemorate the "Japan-Mekong Exchange Year 2009," said a press release of the Japanese Embassy.
The visit would give the opportunity for about 110 cadet school graduates to study the kingdom and its military system, thus strengthening the friendship between the two countries, it said.
During the visit, the staff members would come to Phnom Penh to meet with officials of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense, the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and the Cambodian Royal Navy, it added.
