Ambassador to Britain says EIU report on instability is 'perverse'

Dismisses claims as based on ‘sketchy and unconvincing' evidence.

CAMBODIA'S ambassador to Britain, Hor Nambora, added to official outrage over a report that labelled the nation as potentially one of the world's least stable due to the economic crisis.

The report by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) ranks Cambodia behind Zimbabwe, Chad and DR Congo, and equal to Sudan in the potential risk of social unrest if measures to stimulate the global economy fail.

In a letter to the EIU, Hor Nambora said the report was "insulting", "perverse", and misleading.

"Your scaremongering allegations are highly dangerous, as they could be construed as actively inciting unrest," said Hor Nambora, who is the son of Foreign Minister Hor Namhong. "They also happen to be a gross distortion and misrepresentation of Cambodia's true position, and there can be no justification for these claims."

Hor Nambora said the EIU had ignored solid evidence including recent sustained economic growth due to political stability and improved macro-economic management.

He said it "arrogantly dismissed" Prime Minister Hun Sen's declaration that Cambodia would seek to maintain its economic growth this year.

And he complained that the country's oil and gas reserves and growing reputation as a tourist destination and "centre of enterprise and investment" were disregarded: "You seem to have ignored this reassurance from the highest possible level, preferring to rely on your own evidence, which would appear to be both sketchy and unconvincing," he wrote.

Many people are afraid of criticism than death or atomic bomb.

Mr. Hor Nambora should not be panic and so sensitive to criticism. He should know that criticism is the opposite of complement. Criticism is meant to be negative and complement is positive. However, criticism is not always bad. It is a reflection of something. It can be very helpful for a person to improve himself because he can't see his own mistake. This is called a constructive criticism and this is a principle of democracy.

Mr. Nambora is an intellectual, so I don't think he can see things in different perspectives.

The report may not represent the cambodian government's pespective but may represent the society of cambodia. The easy question is Cambodian government has transparency or not, just ask how did Hor Nam Bora become ambassador? How many of his brothers are ambassadors while the father is Foreign minister?

Hor Nam Bora has been instructed to response.
Intellectual it or not Hor wants to keep his job and save his family members in Cambodia from shipping overnight to Vietnam.
A secret place with crocodiles the Vietnamese just threw them no graves to be found.

The UK is one of the most hypocrite countries on the planet. They love to point finger at the third world in order to hide their evil doing in the UK. The fact of the matter is the UK is most prone to instability from just a slight fluctuation in the economy, let alone an economic crisis.

i think this is not only defending and looking out for the interest of cambodia as a nation, but also the bias and unjust report painted by this group of people who obviously have something against cambodia despite reassurance from the highest level of gov't official. cambodia must not accept this and cannot tolerate this kindof incorrect and blind report, to say the least! god bless cambodia.

"The fact of the matter is the UK is most prone to instability from just a slight fluctuation in the economy, let alone an economic crisis." There speaks someone who has no idea what they're talking about. When was the last time the UK society was reduced to the stone age, indiscriminately killing and raping their own people? About 1,000 years ago. Cambodia? Still happening today...
