Prime Minister Hun Sen (pictured) said on Wednesday that the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) will give two positions in each of the nine parliamentary committees to the Sam Rainsy Party (SRP), but only if the SRP stops cursing the government.
Speaking at a graduation ceremony, Mr. Hun Sen said that this is just his opinion as he cannot guarantee that the majority of the MPs from the CPP will vote to support this proposal because the SRP has always cursed the government.
Mr. Kul Panha, chairman of the election monitoring body COMFREL, said that the government should not use the parliamentary positions as a pretext to silent the opposition parties. Speaking to the Cambodia Daily, Mr. Kul Panha said: "It is not a curse, it is a criticism. The role of the opposition is to criticise the government (for any wrongdoings)."

This is an intimidation and an attempt to buy the opposition's silence. criticism is a healthy and constructive means of improving government's performances. Without criticism it would be like the Pol Pot regime and the government will lead the nation toward disaster. Mr. Hun Sen can't understand the principle of democracy, he only understand the principle of communism - no criticism is to be tolerated. Shame! It is blackmailing.

If Hun Sen optimistic person it would be criticism but if he is pessimistic person it would be cursing. Criticism can be good if you take constructively... but you take negatively it could be an insult like Sun Sen is doing right now. The duty of the opposition party is to have opposing views to niche out better decisions. Ultimately it is the government who would have the final says but they should also consider the views of opposition party as party of their decision making. After it is our country, our people...
Sorry I am having a bad day, let me make some senses for my writing.
If Hun Sen is an optimistic person, criticism is a good thing; but if he is pessimistic person, criticism would be a curse. Criticism can be good if person you criticize can understand your language; otherwise, it is an insult like Sun Sen is seeing right now.
The duty of the opposition party is oppose to niche out a better decision.
Ultimately, it is the government who will have the final say but they should also incorporate views of opposition party as well for their decision making.
After all it is our country and our people will face the blunt.

Hun Sen thinks he is always right and everybody else is wrong, that's why he does not listen to any criticism.
Opposition's role is to keep the checks and balances. They keep the govt. in check for any wrongdoings. A govt. or a leader who does not listen to opposing opinions are tyrants, dictators and communists who want to lead the country toward a disaster and Hun Sen is one like them.
I believe Mr. Sam Ransy criticize the government for any wrong doings is nothing wrong at all it not makes the country look bad. The people that investment business in
the Cambodia they like to see Cambodia have a good government no corruption, no human rights abuses, no land-grabbing and the government official must obey rule of law.
