This estimate was provided by economists from the Cambodia Institute of Development Study (CIDS) based on a salary survey in the garment sector. This result could lead to demands to be made by workers who are not keen estimate their own needs on this issue.

The results of the CIDS survey, which was published on 16 March, indicate that the average salary amounts to only $67 per month, and that these average wages would increase to $79 with overtime work. “According to our study, the minimum salary should be between $87, at the low end, and $117 at the high end,” the survey authors indicated.

According to the survey, a factory worker spends $57 per month for personal needs, $15 for her family, and she would save $7. The survey, which was conducted between December 2008 and January 2009, is based on a sample of 350 factory workers, 91% of whom are women.

However, due to the current financial and economic crisis, the ministry of Commerce and the GMAC indicated that more than 50,000 garment workers lost their jobs.

Anyone can put any number down on paper, but how do you justified it.

I am sure they do about that much in Vietnam and Thailand, and both of those country got pretty good school to prepare people for the Job. What about Cambodia? Aside from failing to meet customer deliveries, the only thing we see is people go on strike crying for more money every month.

Why is fucking NGO always complaining? If they have spend just a fraction of their stupid time to train people to worth $87 - $113/month, everyone will certainly be better off.

Hey fucker! Your fucken minimum salary couldn't pay for the clean water, a decent education, and going to the hospital for a little child!

You are asking these dirt poor Cambodian people to be your slave worker? In fact they had been your fucken slave for years! So your slave couldn't ask for more food even though he or she is still hungry?

It would be better off for these dirt poor Cambodian people to live as a nomad than to be a slave worker because at least they have the chance to pick and smell the wild flowers and breathe the fresh air not the toxic fume and smoke from your fucken factories!
