Official: U.S. not to interfere in Cambodian-Thai border dispute

PHNOM PENH, March 18 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. has affirmed that it will not interfere in the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute, said official news agency the Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP) on Wednesday.

"The U.S. has never intervened in the border issues between the two neighboring countries," Stephen Blake, director of the Mainland Southeast Asia Bureau Office of the U.S. State Department, was quoted as saying.

The U.S. is instead encouraging both sides to solve their conflict peacefully, he said during a lecture named "Southeast Asia Politics and U.S. Policy in the Region," which was held here on Tuesday.

The Cambodian-Thai border conflict started on July 15, 2008, when Thai troops encroached on the Cambodian territory in the area near the disputed centuries-old Preah Vihear temple.

Rounds of high-level talks have been held since then, and both sides decided to withhold armed conflicts and stick to peaceful solutions.

The U.S knows Thailand is the aggressor but they chose to be indifferent on the issue. What if war or instability arise will the U.S has any concern about it? The U.S inaction will encourage Thailand to continues their aggression on Cambodia territory. Is this how the U.S want to improve their relationship with Cambodia?

Thailand has been colonized (and still is) for the past 75 years, and the U.s. is telling us that it is not interfering with us (Cambodia). The U.S. is big liar, and still is, and is also know throughout the world.

the USA was known all along as thailand's ally; so to be fair to cambodia, no interference. plus, don't forget this is a new era too, so cambodia can also become the USA's ally. so all is good now that the cold war, the vietnam war, communism, etc was long gone! cambodia had reformed a lot since the end of the so-called communism. god bless cambodia.

Of course Thailand is always the supportive ally of the US. Politically, economically and militarily, there is no reason that the US should have any policy against Thailand.

Cambodia will never growing up to be strong enough to conquer Thailand so long as the US stay in power in the Southeast Asia.

Little money and humanitarian aids will be sufficient to make the local Cambodians feel complacent and grateful to the US and its Western allies.

The Americans are smarter and much creative than Cambodians, and they always doubt that how our ancestors could proudly build the magnificent AngKor Wat.

the USA needs to change its view on cambodia, then! you can't play favoritism anymore, especially in this day and age. otherwise, we're back to square one! i ask that the USA reverse its foreign policy with cambodia as cambodia had changed a lot since. after all, don't the USA want to be friends with cambodia? we welcome the USA to cambodia, you know. so, USA needs to change its old way, too. please make cambodia proud of you, USA. god bless cambodia.

Hochiminh's vision for Indochina is to integrate those states to form a larger and stronger but new independent nation.

On the other hand, the US has its vision of establishing a butch of allies around its main rival China. But since the failure in Vietnam, its new strategy has shifted from the west back to the east, that's why it lent a support to Khmer Rough to counter Vietnam even though the pair were bitter enemies.

However, since the Sino-US relationship has been growing and more dialogue between the two, the role of the Southeast Asian countries has diminished in the arena of counter Chinese influence.

So there is a general concensus that to keep the Sino-US relationship going then it is necessary to keep the stability in the Southeast Asia. There will not be America's interest to go for another war with China, at least not this decade.

To further understand the US mentality, you'll need to delve into the Lon Nol era, and tell me what did the US did. Or, perhaps you need to do some research on the late President Nixon (and his clown, Kissinger)before the collapse of Cambodia.

The question is this: Can we re-trust the US as an our ally?

Yes! i trust the people and the New leader of US.
