Both a 37-year-old woman and her unborn child died in the hospital because her family was unable to pay for her surgery fee.
The death of the mother and child took place at 5AM on 16 March 2009 at the auxiliary hospital in Pailin province.
48-year-old Mit Ron, the husband of the deceased woman, indicated that, in the morning of 17 March, Vorn Yoeub, his 37-year-old wife, and his unborn baby died 6 hours after they arrived in the hospital. He said that his wife died because he did not have the money to pay for her surgery.
Mit Ron said: “The hospital said: You, Uncle, get your money out to pay for the service, it costs 1,000 Thai baths (~$25), you are sick so it’s impossible that you don’t have money with you at all.’ I told them that I don’t have money yet, I just returned from the field and my wife had to deliver the baby, so I didn’t get to go home yet. The hospital asked me if I have relatives in Pailin. I told them that I don’t have relatives, but I can ask to borrow up to 5,000 baths (~$125) from my neighbors to pay for the service. I am not completely without any means.”
Mit Ron said that even when his wife begged the doctors, they simply ignored her: “My wife said, please Doctors, help me now and by morning time, they will bring the money over to pay you. If I don’t get the surgery, I may not survive. Then I asked the doctors if they can do it for her or not? They remained silent until my wife died.”
Mrs. Vorn Yoeub died with her unborn child still in her stomach. She and Mit Ron, her husband, have 8 children living in Suon Ampov Lech village, Pailin commune, Pailin district, Pailin province.
An Neang, the deputy director of the Pailin auxiliary hospital, denied that doctors did not provide medical care, he said that the woman’s situation was already too serious and they could not help her anymore, that was why she died. Ang Neang claimed: “[It would be a] normal birth, but her uterus was not opened. At about 2 to 3 AM, we were prepared to have a surgery for her, but because she lost so much blood, I gave her a blood transfusion, I gave her oxygen, intravenous serum etc… but we couldn’t save her, and at 5AM she died. The other doctors came to help from all over.”
Keo Chan Nol, an official for the Adhoc human rights group, said that Adhoc plans to send an intervention letter to the authority, asking the latter to conduct an investigation into the death of the mother and child in the hospital. Keo Chan Nol said: “In this case, we will intervene with the department involved, in particular with the provincial administration.”
Y Chhean, the Pailin provincial governor, said that he is doing a research into this case: “I am in a meeting, to work on this case.”
According to the family of the deceased woman, the hospital put her body into an ambulance and took her to be cremated at the Wat Ratanak Sophorn pagoda, also known as Koang Kang pagoda, located 1 kilometer from the hospital, at the north of Phnom Yat hill.

Which part claim the truth? But this horrible death is incredible that doctors should have will to save one among them: moth or baby.
But they both died shows the truth as her husband complained.
So horrific situation for the poor Cambodians.
All those doctors are underhuman. How can we do to bring those doctors to be responsible for their heatless acts????? This type of story is more famous in the west where pouk Ah Scam Rainxy came from. Lot of people (million and million) are uninsured and have to die because the hospital turned them away.
Again, the bottom line is the more people go into a mass grave, the more political gain Pouk Ah Scam Rainxy get.
You need to wash Hun Sen's brain first,because corruption exists everywhere. These doctors and nurses dont care about khmer people lives. They only care about money.
Sadly, greed among those calous physicians have mercilessly murdered this woman and her child. Someone must be accountable for the deaths of two innocent people.
Mr. Prime Minister, you need to do something about this matter, if you plan to continue to receive aid from foreign donors.
Somebody need to get this story to the CNN or Fox news or other equivalent news media outlet, so we can show how calous is the physicians in Cambodia are.

This is just only one case that everyone sees that happened in Pailin. But I have seen many many cases happened in Phnom Penh with the following hospitals that long decade equipped with unprofessional and immoral Drs. (Dr=Dollar NOT Doctor).
1- Calmette hospital
2- Kosomak
3- Russian Hospital
4- Chey Chum Neh hospital in Takhmao
5- 1.79 hospital
All these hospitals are with inhuman DRs. & nurses. They just keep the patients until they die if they don't have money. I don't know if Hun Sen government knows that or not. If you think you're strong and your saliva is salty, why they (DRs) don't follow you? You just shouted in TV recently on the behavior of the hospital staff. This is the main and key reason that rich Cambodians are not willing to risk their lives for treatment in Cambodia. They prefer to go abroad and spend lot of money rather than paying money to inhuman Cambodian Dr. with poorly, unprofessionally and immorally staff.

Everybody who are visiting this page, do you thinks the argument of Lord doctors Ok? For me is terrible.
In fact, this argument is unsubstantiated and nonsense. Why?, if the healtconduction of this woman was serously critical, lord doctors can save at least one life from both, but now they both died because of the MONEY first. The result of this case for Khmer socity is, this man must to live with his 7 children and also 7 children without mother!.
Conclusion: in fact, if this case was happed in the industrialised countries, those Lord doctors must loose automatically their jobs and their title for their life-span.

We need to distribute this news to the Western world, so they know how cruel our doctors are, and the government of Cambodia.
Those who can afford the money, go to vietnam or thailand for treatment ie the rich and corrupted. Most doctors studying or graduated are from rich families. Their only object is to scam the those who have to use their services in cambodia;

I am so deeply sad about this news. I have no doubt about health system in Cambodia. My friend in Battambang died a few years ago because the doctors didn't treat him. The reason why? Of course his family didnt have enough money to operate on his stomach ( he needed to operate on his stomach). Cambodian doctors have been famously betraying professionally at their work place (hospital or clinic) in the Cambodian society. Does our stong man know? he does know but he is just an animal like his doctors are.

Whether or not the family can come up with the money at that very moment, the doctors should have performed the necessary surgery regardless. It seems that these "doctors" do not fully understand medical ethics nor do they display any ounce of human dignity. It's a shame this type of circumstance can even occur. Makes me completely sick to see humans acting in such manner.

This is the things i hate about cambodia, i remembered when my younger brother need a blood transfusion, they just kept ignore us because we did not have enough money to buy the blood, but somehow, my mother manage to get some loans from someone to buy the blood, otherwise my brother would not made it...All of the hospital in cambodia just like that!!
