The Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) MPs have sent a letter to Prime Minister Hun Sen requesting him to explain to the National Assembly about the government's bloated $1.75 billion national budget, which is an increase of 28% from the 2008 national budget of $1.37 billion.
In the letter, the SRP MPs questioned wisdom of proposing a $1.75 billion national budget considering that the government revenue collections for the last two months have dropped significantly.
The letter states that, in the first two months of this years the Customs Department can only collect $64 million in revenues compared to last year's $86 million. As a result, they questioned whether the government is capable of implementing the $1.75 billion package without downsizing the proposed budget.
The MPs also asked whether the government is capable of tackling the economic crisis because of the drops in revenue collections.

I don't need any explanation for that. As the world economy is getting worse, especially westerner, they may become desperate and try to invade Cambodia as they usually did. Therefore, we need the extra money for defense.

Yes, when Cambodia is in recession Hun Sen and his cronies try to increase budget so the can increase their pockets. Extra defense yes, but how come the Thais and the Viets still encroach Cambodian borders everyday. This is to increase Hun Sen's pockets, not defense budget.
Well, they may try encroach, but they aint gaining anything because we know how to use our taxpayers' money extremely effective.

Hun Sen and his cronies never worry about the nation, only worry about how to strengthen powers and money. borders and economy and people's well-being mean nothing to them.
Even so, it's still a lot better than Ah Scam Rainxy who's always step on Khmer's back everyday trying to get ahead. But because he's too dumb and stupid, he didn't gain anything but making people suffer for nothing.

28% sounds reasonable these days considering our inflation is high and we have to give some of our civil servants raises to keep up with the economy and so on.
