PHNOM PENH, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Foreign tourist arrivals in Cambodia dropped by 2.19 percent in January, compared with the same month in 2008, the Phnom Penh Post reported on Wednesday.
It was a sign that another key economic driver was flagging in the face of the global financial crisis, the English-language daily newspaper quoted ministry official as saying.
"We recognize that the garment and tourism sectors have been affected to some extent," said Ouk Rabun, secretary of state of the Ministry of Finance and Economy.
Cambodia received around 2 million foreign tourist arrivals in 2008, a 5.5 percent rise over 2007, but slightly lower than the government's expectation, according to official figures.
Both garment and tourism are the pillar industries of the country.

Don't listen to Mee Jkout (Socheata). This has nothing to do with the world economic crisis. It has to do with the stability of the border that drove the number of tourist down. The solution is rather simple: Stop invading Khmer Leu's land to steal their temple and cause Hell to break loose. Just settle everything based on 50/50 and done with it.
Facts: The vast majority of foreign tourists are Janpanese and Korean, and now these country are undergoing economic downturn, and, yes, these countries have a major impact on the decline, undoubtedly. Therefore, don't like to the public.

They never stop asking for money! if you don't give them some money they kept playing with your passport, i never did! you'r not suppose to! Asking..$10 dollars for drinking coffee?, they usally did this to Khmer people only! i felt embarass to those white people behind me....that's why i use to called them, Pouk Ah thork tiep Mok krass! begging for money to buy more diamonds for his bitchs!
