Note: this debate emerged among some Cambodians who have argued that opposition party and individual criticism to Hun Sen government will create division among Cambodians and can fragment the nation. So what division and what unity having in your thought?
Pol Pot who requested Cambodian people to unite with them to eliminate the city and rich people, King Sihanouk who appealed his people to unify with him in the forest to topple America, Hun Sen and his members who appealed Cambodian people to unify with them and Vietnamese to topple Khmer Rouge. But finally, Khmers has been losing repeatedly. Sihanouk's appeal, Khmer lost to Pol Pot's radicalization. Hun Sen's appeal, Khmers lost national sovereignty to VN. But Khmers are still good, through different fractions, we can unify to pursue Paris Peace Agreement. PPA is the flagship yoke for Cambodia. But now Paris Peace Agreement has gradually been dismissed by Hun Sen administration.
On the other hand, what unity are you wanting? Unity followed N. Sihanouk, unity followed Pol Pot, or unity following incumbent Hun Sen? You can choose and tell me one unity that you want to persuade here.

SRP is one of the main actors to adjudicate the stipulation inscribed in the Paris Peace Accord...the stipulation encourages political plurality, economic liberalization and the bolstering the rule of laws, good governance, decentralization etc.
What unity do you mean? And what division of political plurality you mean? In your brain, political plurality will create division or unity? And what is your backup to that? To change current Cambodia to single party like Vietnam and China? Or what?
As a Khmer, an opposition party or other political parties in Cambodia will increase division in Cambodia or increase democracy? Or Cambodia should not have political criticism and leave CPP lead the country alone?

Khmer people should unify for one reason to survival.
For vietnam is bad for cambodia. For example, Vietnam mistreatment khmer krom and laos nation. The same by vietnam will be upon cambodia.

Obama got the most votes, because he knows more people than McCain. He got all the african, latino, white , most asian and white that runs the union to vote for him and he won. Right now, a lot of african, latino, asian and white in the labor work force are very thirsty for the first two and not as much for the last one or may be they don't really know it,yet and it doesn't really matter. So most people seem to enjoy the ride for the moment, but don't forget that there millions and millions of other people out there that don't give a rat's poop about President Obama. You know when 2012 comes around there will be their turn to get Obama off his high seat and they probably will.
What would Cambodian people want? We want a country that we can live in peace giving our self a chance to raise our young or go about doing business and live our life freely without a hassle and intimidating. We want the same thing as the American people do, but how? There is a limit here in our country. The top roof is closed. It isn't limitless like America. We just have to do the best we can. SRP did an outstanding job fighting the bad part that the current government's practicing. That is fantastic! and they should continue to do so and SHOULD NOT BE LOOKED AT AS DISUNIFY, BECAUSE IF YOU DO, WE'LL NEVER GET ANYWHERE. EVERYONE HAS TO ACCEPT OTHER PEOPLE DIFFERENCES SOMETIMES. actually, i think having the opposition voice is essential for the growth and democracy in cambodia as long there is a method to it. khmer people should encourage to engage in constructive criticism about how we all want cambodia to head and what kind of justice and especially the fostering of the rule of laws society and the justice system. this is the kind of unity, a least in the consolidated voice because only talking and communicating openly about it will bring about real changes. i think khmer people should be encouraged to put into place a rule of laws society, meaning nobody should be above the law, particularly if they do something wrong or not doing the right things like cheated on the people who voted for them, fail to deliver their promises, tolerate impunity, tolerate injustice, etc, etc... these are the kind of dirty laundry that cambodia and khmer people do not need or want. and by all mean, do encourage all khmer people to expression their opinion and not have fear of retaliation from authority. everyone should be able to speak freely along the line of the rule of laws. yes, the rule of laws cannot be emphasized enough! this is one way that can liberate cambodia and set khmer people free of injustice, corruption, the wrong-doers, the dictator, and so on... leaders should encourage reforms in sectors or areas they see was out-dated and ineffective. and don't be afraid to remove someone who is found to be doing something against the law because a society without the rule of laws is a dangerous society. please think critically about this philosophy, the philosophy of the rule of laws. god bless cambodia.
the justice system and the rule of laws both goes hand and hand. cambodia needs a strong enforcer of law and the rule of laws. this is how civilized society exists, everyone respect the rule of laws. also, the way i see it khmer people should be educated to understand about the world at a large picture. thinking outside of the box helps too, and when speaking about justice by all mean refer to the larger society out there are there are over 190 different countries on the planet and many many different languages as well. khmer people need to be open-minded in their thinking. it is ok to learn from everyone. god bless cambodia.

Unity in Cambodia is when all Cambodians, whether you are over-seas Khmer, Khmer kandal, Khmer surin, Khmer krom, Khmer of Chinese descent, mixed-Khmer, whatever...come together without being jealous of one another, without being greedy, without wanting to take power away from the other person and without judging one another as who is more pure Khmer than the other.
Khmers need to understand that is is and was our heritage of fighting with one another and our disunity that had allowed our neighbors or enemies to become opportunistic and take advantage of our inability to unite and fight as one great power.
Honestly, we can blame the "Siem" and the "Yuon" all we want, but the truth is, it was our greed, our jealousies and our need to take power away from one another that created our downfall.
Right now, Cambodia still physically exist with its land and water that still remains. Our history and heritage still remains. We still remain as a people! We haven't yet perished from the face of this earth nor are we erased from the continuity and awareness of history.
We still have hope. But this window of opportunity to succeed and keep hope alive doesn't last forever. Understand our past, know what we have at the moment and by coming together and letting go our animosities for one another, we can certainly face a better tomorrow.

The debate in here is simpler than your deep knowledge of Western politics: do we want Hun Sen and his administration to lead Cambodia following the rule of laws, or following the ego-centric style?
unity of all khmer people doesn't only mean physical unity, it can also mean be supportive of all khmer people and interest everywhere; it means protect all khmer national interest both overseas and at home in cambodia; it means educating one another what is right and what is wrong; it means encouraging all khmer to speak khmer influently and be proud of khmerness; it means empowering khmer people in every way and helps to enhance khmer identity abroad and at homeland as well; it means teach foreigners about khmer way, khmer culture, khmer tradition, khmer cuisines, khmer custom and etiquette, etc, etc..., the list goes on and on... however these aren't the only things, encourage all khmer children to study hard and stay in school and avoid dangerous situtations and take risk too; encourage all khmer to learn some foreign languages like english, french, chinese, japanese, korean and some other worldly languages... god bless cambodia.

Anything blowing out from Hun Sen's mouth is the rule of law?
It is incredible. Many top world's leaders such as Hilter, Stalin, Lenin, Moast and Pot Pot...their words are the rule of laws.
Words blowing from the top leaders according to the rule of laws are very useful one...but words from top leaders without abiding the rule of laws..those words are devastative.
Like Neang Sa elaborated the important of good words (Dhamma words) from the leaders, not the hell or evil words from those evil leaders.
Cambodia has been enough for her experience of self-egoistic leaders. The rule of laws should be the last alternative choice for incumbent Cambodian leaders (including Hun Sen too?)
cambodia needs to restore mutual respect for each other and civilized society again since the stupid KR destroyed all of that. cambodia needs a renaissance. perhaps, we are just asleep now, but we need to wake up again to reclaim our place in the world arena like in the good, olden days before the ignorant KR regime took over! let's empower khmer people and way. god bless cambodia.
What we need, is a unify government that can understand us better. Us is poverty, us is sick or illness with no medicine and treatment, us is having no job, us is having no clear future, but working in the factory or some low paying job to no end, us is food & job starving, us is being steping over by the rich and heartless people, us is being negledged and abandonced by our own government or at least majority of us did go thru hell by them, us is able to live a better life than we are today, us is live in peace with other people that will unified to be Khmer.Us is being able to embrasse to the new world order, us is being able to get along with the civilized world, to be able to stand up on our own, us is being freed and independent from foreign inteference, us is to live our own lives with dignity, us is able to find true justice to the victim of any kind of abuse, us is everyting any human would want to be better.
