Why wasn't the Naga Casino closed?: Seng Theary

Motive of Gambling Crackdown Questioned

The jury is still out on whether a gambling crackdown ordered recently by Prime Minister Hun Sen was done for the good of the public or for personal gain, a civil society advocate said Monday.

“We need more explanation from the government on whether the closures are in favor of an individual or the public,” said Seng Theary, executive director of the Center for Social Development, as a guest on “Hello VOA.”

Hun Sen last month ordered the closure of the popular sports betting company CamboSix, a move that followed stricter measures against gambling machines in hotels.

While the move against gambling, which Seng Theary called a worm that corrupted morality and split families, was welcome, it should have been done through legal procedures, she said.

She also questioned why the largest casino, Naga, in Phnom Penh, wasn’t closed. “Why just close the small gambling sites?” she asked.

For the lack of a better explanation- Naga Casino wasn't closed because it "officially" doesn't allow Cambodians in to gamble-whereas CamboSix and all the other petty slot machines do allow them. This Seng Theary girl...is retarded for questioning such a thing.

Who said Naga doesn't allow Cambodians to play? This is a very stupid statement. I have been in Naga and played several times. But I am gambling addicted, many high ranking officials are addicted and hanging around Naga.

The reasons behind Hun Sen's trick cannot be hidden any more.

Theary stated correct thing and it has no transparency and base on law at all...why all decision makings are basing on Hun Sen's mouth? Hun Sen's mouth is consecrated by God of Indra? Or Hun Sen's mouth has always led Cambodia to destruction?

Cambodia should be based on laws, not on any frail and retarded person...

I second what 11:06 am said. I went to Naga Casino once. I tried a slot machine. No body cares who you are as long as you have money to gamble.

There are plenty good and legitimate reason why the Naga wasn't close, but we don't have to answer to any loser at the moment while we are still working.

There are plenty good and legitimate reason why the Naga wasn't closed: both Hun Sen and Sok An have a stake in it. Both Hun Sen and Sok An families spent their vacation at a Malaysian resort owned by the owner of Naga. They're friends and associates.

Yes, 12:38PM is still very slowly working on it. Much like the way the government is working on the anti-corruption law.

Yeah, but we preferred to do things slowly and surely than to rush and causing a disaster in the country, which is something that Pouk Ah Scam Rainxy has been praying for for the last couple decades so that they can score points politically, but they should know better now.

Cambodian people has been gradually implicitly killed by the slow upgrading of CPP.

Pol Pot killed Cambodians to die immediately, but CPP kills Cambodians to dies slowly. Current CPP leadership is better solely to the KR regime, or to the ancient Songkum Reastr Niyum, but to the swift change of the global market..

Oh, Cambodian people, you are daily bullied and exploited by your elites...
