04/28/09

Beijing, (ANTARA News) - The Chinese government has expressed support for the upcoming ASEAN+3 finance ministers meeting to be held in Bali early next month to discuss followups on the Chiang Mai Initiative.

China always supported various multilateral meetings such as followups on the Chiang Mai Initiative, Jiang Yu, a spokesman of the Chinese foreign affairs ministry, said here on Tuesday.

The meeting of finance ministers of the ASEAN+3 (China, Japan, and South Korea) will be held on the sidelines of the 42nd Asian Development Bank (ADB) governors meeting in Bali next May 2-5, 2009.

China was also proactive in many multilateral meetings, especially to discuss the implementation of the Chiang Mai Initiative together with ASEAN member countries to improve the welfare of the peoples in the region, he said.

Meanwhile, Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani recently said the ASEAN+3 finance ministers in the Bali meeting would finalize the Chiang Mai Initiative talks.
The meeting would discuss efforts to increase the collected funds to US$120 billion, to distribute the funds among ASEAN+3 member countries, and a mechanism for using the funds, she said.

"The ASEAN+3 is expected to agree on finalization of the Chiang Mai Initiative, namely the usage of the $120 billion funds among ASEAN+3 member countries. Indonesia could access a stand-by loan of US$14 billion," he said.

In Bali, the ASEAN finance ministers would also hold a workshop with investors, the minister said.

"We will also hold an ASEAN Show Case and Road Show where the finance ministers will meet investors," Sri Mulyani said.

ASEAN groups Indonesia, Cambodia, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei Darrusalam, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Laos.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to officially open the ADB Board of Governors Meeting in Bali on May 4, 2009.

yes, that meeting that was cancelled due to thai protest should be relocated to either bali or siem reap in cambodia. thailand is too dangerous to held a meeting. remember, it was canceled, so why continue to conduct this important asean + 3 meeting in thailand again? when will asean and the rest of the world learn? do it in bali or siem reap cambodia.
