Lowell, MA - The government of the country of Cambodia opened an official Consulate Office in Lowell on April 27, 2009. The Consulate can be used by Cambodians and others for visa applications, passport issues, and other governmental assistance. The office is located at 111 Chelmsford Street in downtown Lowell. Sovann Ou, an advisor to the Cambodian Embassy, was named the honorary Consul in Lowell.
The city of Lowell, Massachusetts is home to anywhere from 25,000 - 30,000 Cambodians, depending on who is providing the information. This is the second largest community population of Cambodians living in the United States behind Long Beach, California, and its the largest population based on percentage of the entire population. Other Cambodian Consulate Offices in the United States are located in Seattle and Long Beach.
