In his latest letter, the ex-Cambodian monarch challenged his critics to return back to Cambodia to serve the nation and the Cambodian people.
On Sunday, former King Norodom Sihanouk responded in a letter in French to Cambodians who are now living in Canada, France and other countries, and who criticized him for living in China more than in his native Cambodia. These critics want the former monarch to return and live in Cambodia.
King Sihanouk wrote to Cambodians to indicate to them that, while receiving treatment for his 3rd lymphoma B cancer, he requires special medical care through medicines and perfusions, etc… He also wrote that even if he loves, respects and praises the People’s Republic of China to which he owes a debt of gratitude for helping provide his past 2 cancer treatments, he never ceased to serve the nation and the Cambodian people at all.
Besides the above, the ex-monarch ended his letter by challenging Cambodians who are now living in Canada, France, etc… to return back to live in Cambodia to serve the nation and the Cambodian people.

I'm not one of the people asked him to return to Cambodia but would like to say that If I were a King of Cambodia or used to be a King, I would not hesitate to go back and died there. And another regard,if I were him, I would be commanded great and highest respect from my fellow Cambodians and government officials.
Let say I'm an ordinary Cambodian who is now living abroad, If I wanted to go back, What would I do there? Can people listen to my suggestion. Can I find a descent job to support myself
The different lie here Sihanouk can return any time he wanted. He can live happily and comfi in great palace. No body dare to arrest him. He has many people kneel before him.
For him to ask ordinary people to return to Cambodians would have been misconsidered and laughable.
I would challenge him back if he would give up royal elegant lifestyle and to live like let say million other Cambodians, i would very much like to follow his call.
This king has a big mouth and doesn't know when to shut up.

I never liked Sihanouk but I find myself on his side on this one. All self-righteous critics are so loud in their rhetoric but when it's time to apply what they preach, they are usually more silent than a ghost town.
Yea, all you Khmer lovers living abroad who has so much to say, why don't you put your nation before your stomach like you call others to do?
I am not disgusted by other people having opinions but I am by the hypocrisy of some of them.
There is a difference between spectators and players. Spectators talk like they can do a lot better than the actual players on the field but most of those spectators can't be a fraction of the players they criticize from their benches.
Imagine,if one peasant had cancer that required treatment such as Comrade Sihanouk had in Beijing but in this great heroic King country,Nam Tien, had no capacity to treat such peasant problem.
1-Would Comrade Sihanouk see to it that Cambodia will have ability to treat peasant cancer?
2- Who paid Comrade Sihanouk bills all these times?

So are we going to allow Hun Sen, Sihanouk and their cronies to use our Khmer lives for their own political games? Haven't we suffered enough? Do we need to shut up? It is feeble-minded for Sihanouk to say that we need to go back and help Cambodians. This is not a honest request but an insult and angry reaction because he feels quilty and so sensitive to the criticism from our people.
I think he should not return to Cambodia. There is no use of him and there is not be a dime to spend for his funeral in Cambodia.
He is Khmer but doesn't have real Khmer characters. He is one of the devils that have messed up Cambodia and its people. Now he is so afraid of death like other Khmer Rouge leaders than and now.
God is not fair for our Khmer people. This world has been ruled by devils and many of whom have roamed Cambodia for a long time.

I am retired man and I returned to live in Cambodia and I want to serve my beloved country as many
Cambodians wished ,but I ended up with returned back to live in my second homeland.
The problem is nobody want you if you do not pay bribe to get a job in Cambodia.
For exemple in the case of Mr. Phay Siphan .
I do not know how much he has spent to get as a CPP Senator, and now as a Spokeman of the Council Ministry which is the same job as Khiev Kanharith as Information Minister,these 2 positions must be elimanated one to save Khmer money.
When common Khmer citizens want to serve the nation ,they must bribe the CPP to get a job, but when any royal blood person went back to live in Cambodia and got the king advisor tittle and receive monthly salary equal to under secretary, secratary, minister, and PM. These king advisor positions must be eliminated too to save our khmer money because the king does not and will not need these 26 advisors, and the king will act on anything under the order of PM Hun Sen only.
Like me, most retired Cambodians who return to our country do not want any salary.
They will voluntary work and bring their knowledge,expertises and experiences to help their homeland, but the problem are
Cambodia bureaucracy , corruption , lawlessness,and etc...
So, please understand our feeling before pushing us to Cambodia, or you want us to get kill as our khmer returnees during
Pol Pot regime ?

I do not believe you are now living in Cambodia , SIHANOUK has been ruling Cambodia almost his entire life and I am the one who suffer alot in the past under his brutal regime and as well under the Kiloing Fields which had been orchestrated by SIHANOUK, I lost my immediate family members as well as yours and the rest of KHMER, Even you are probably young generation, I guessed but I strongly believe you lost your ancestors to SIHANOUK's.

I think Sihanouk is dreaming to have all Cambodian to be back for having them all killed again like in 1975 so that noone will be available to talk about his ruthless killing in 1975 again. He must be foolished to think that Khmer now living in overseas are very easy to fool around.

My Dear 8:25AM , You are absolutely right on this concern and is very thoughful, as I remember SIHANOUK appealed to all the Viet Cong, North Vietnamese and especiall the KHMER peasants to rise up against LON NOL people and have them all killed after the final victory . I also remember when I was under the Killing Field, SIHANOUK arrived in PHNOM PENH a few months late after his KHMER ROUGE troops cleared out all the cities by forces and most of us were tortured. You have to remember SIHANOUK even he is very old but in his entire life as a personal preference RETALIATION IS HIS NUMBER ONE PRIORITY, please think way back in the past that he ordred to execute LOK PREAP IN , SAO NGOY , CHAO MEAK THURA and his brother CHAO BOREY at TRAPEANG KRALOEUNG intimidating the rest of the nationalists not to dare to challeng him but we were so glad to impeach him on March 18 1997,

for me personally, i don't where khmer people live all over the world. however, i just wanted to point out, like some someone had said already on this blog that one was a reigning monarch and the other was just ordinary people. it's not right to compare ordinary people to a royal person. we all know that the former was held a great responsible and utmost respect, etc... it's is absurd to compare the two different status of people. anyway, let's make cambodia attractive so one day everybody will want to go back to live or work or whatever. hey, even other nationality all over the world live everywhere in the world as well. so, what make them think khmer people are an exception to this? i've seen so many different nationalities lived in the USA, Europe, etc... so, why don't people tell those different people to also go back to live in their country, too? why just pick on only khmer people? not fair at all to make this kind of bias, cruel, unjust comments like this here! god bless cambodia.
i think khmer people living overseas make them see a different perspective. other nationalities did the same! i think it's ok for khmer people to live overseas like everyone else. yes, travel the world and the seven seas, everybody's looking for something. it's for thinking outside of the box and to be educated worldly. god bless cambodia.
well, it's in the khmer language to use the derogatory word "ah". so, when khmer people put this word "ah" in front of any noun or name or whatever, it becomes derogatory. i bet this is why some foreigners think the khmer name for vietnamese, "youn" is derogatory because we put this derogatory word "ah" in front of it. oh well, who cares! the word "ah" is being expressed when someone hates somebody else. it's a hate word in khmer and has nothing to do with any race or nationality. i'm sure every nationality on the planet have their own word that expresses derogatory meaning as well. so, again, why only blame khmer language for this word? did you the world know that khmer language is as rich as any languages in the world. it helps to speak and understand khmer so people wouldn't misinterpret or misunderstand the real meaning of a word. thank you and god bless the khmer language.

My family and I moving back to Cambodia after 20 years in the USA.
I have been treveled over 30 country around the world. No place like Cambodia. You can take Cambodian people from Cambodia, but you can not take Cambodia from Cambodian heart. I hope all Khmer around the world came back to live in Cambodia. I love my people and Cambodia. I would die in Cambodia, with my people.

What opportunity or security does the Cambodian governement has for the Cambodian living abroad? Cambodian living a broad may still be poor and dumb compare to the native's standard of other countries they are living in, but many of these Cambodian have gone far beyond brain in the sack. They need hope, better living and better opportunity for their lives and families equal to the hope and better opportunity, they are providing by their second countries. So far they have been offering nothing. Some have gone back to Cambodia and tried to change for the better on their own, because they know what works and what doesn't, but there is no use. What did they get? Just a slap in the face of critisim and an act of tearing them down everyday. These are not inviting. These are rejection and telling them to get lost. The problem in Cambodia is that no one dares to accept new thing or change. New usually look at as bad instead of method for improving. Many are just having fear of going back , because of the differences. Remembering Mr. Eing Sary and Mr. Cham Prasith who have gone to Europe and America to get our people back home in 1976? What did they do with them???!!! The Hun Sen government isn't much of a different. Just slowly finishing off from a distance. Who in the hell would want to go back to a suck countries like that?

i don't hate anyone in cambodia. i just wish our leaders become smarter, wiser and worldly educated. we all need a good, effective leader who will unite all khmer people from all walks of life for the sake of modernized and transforming our country into the 21st century and so on. god bless cambodia.
i love being khmer. we have so much beautiful, rich culture heritage such as what's left of us from the great era of angkor civilization, the national treasure like the beautiful, exotic and unique royal ballet dances, the many traditional celebrations and many many beautiful pagoda and temples in khmer beautiful styles. of course, we can also integrate and adopt other world symbols and architecture as well so cambodia will be full of beautiful architecture and people. god bless cambodia.
