Thai troops shooting in Veal Entry; Thai commandos trespass into the forbidden zone where clashes took place earlier

The confrontation between Cambodian and Thai troops along the disputed border near Preah Vihear temple is turning tense again following a lull during the New Year celebration.

In the afternoon of Wednesday 22 April 2009, a RCAF official stationed along the frontline of the Preah Vihear temple zone said that, a few days following the New Year, the situation is not very good, i.e. troops must stand ready to fight 24 hours long. Furthermore, in the morning of 22 April, at about 6:40AM, several Thai commandos attempted to crawl into the Veal Entry zone, a forbidden zone, they then shot about 10 bullets in an attempt to provoke Cambodian soldiers to return their fire.

A Cambodian officer, who is an aid for army Unit 81, Battalion 8, based on Veal Entry, confirmed the information indicated above. He also added that the area where Thai commandos were crawling in was an area where armed clashes took place and it was there also that a landmine exploded. Commanders from both armies have met and agreed to consider this zone as being a “white zone” [No Man’s Land], however, Thailand does not respect this agreement and they kept on sneaking into that zone, as well as opening fire to create trouble also. The same Cambodian officer added that Thai soldiers never learnt their lesson, because during the latest clash, Cambodian troops arrested Thai soldiers and confiscated their weapons and base. But later, the Cambodian troops released these arrested Thai soldiers back, unlike what the Burmese and Lao troops did. Because of this, Thailand took advantage of the situation and it delayed its negotiations with Cambodia. Now, Thai troops are very daring also.

General Chea Keo, commander of army region 4 in Preah Vihear, said over the phone in the afternoon of 22 April that he did not receive the information yet about Thai troops trespassing into Veal Entry and started the shooting because he is busy in Siem Reap province. However, he said that the troops stand ready for a fight because troops must always be careful and they cannot neglect their duty to defend the country’s territorial integrity and not to loose an inch of our land.

Along the border near O’Smach, Oddar Meanchey province, Cambodian villagers reported that they heard several rounds of automatic rifle shot in the morning of 22 April, and some of them became scared of this situation. However, a Cambodian office stationed in that area claimed that there were no face off between Cambodian and Thai troops, and the shooting was done by a Cambodian soldier trying a 12.7-mm type gun near the bottom of Phnom Sruoch hill, located about 4 kilometers from the border, therefore people should not be surprised by this.

Thai troops insistence on trespassing into Cambodia in Veal Entry led to several bloody clashes in the past, and the most recent one took place on 03 April 2009. In this latest clash, Cambodian soldiers claimed that 22 Thai soldiers died and 27 were injured, and the Cambodian side did not sustain any casualty or injury. However, 257 Cambodian houses located in Phsar Krom market, next to the staircase leading to Preah Vihear temple, became the target of Thai rockets and they were completely burnt down. The Preah Vihear temple itself sustained 60 shots. Meanwhile, the border dispute between the two countries still continues to persist.

As I was the former Khmer Rouge soldier, Thai soldiers did not dare to step on Khmer land, if so the former KR soldiers would kill them all. KR soldiers have defected to RACF of Cambodia. They are stationing at Preah Vihear. They know landmine fields very well.

We had the Three Fighting Strategies (Yuthasas Bey Kom) 12 soldiers versus 50 Thai soldiers. This strategy the Thai could not exchange the fight.

Next time, please do not release the arrest of Thai soldiers if they step forward to Veal Entry.

Burmese and Lao,PDR never released the arrest.

don't compare the new war to the the old war,..he must bragging! if so khmer may under-estimate the thai. The war now is called smart war. Thai has the superpower allies, and khmer only has yuon. Smart war means that they only take out the leaders, then the country will fall by itself. So let dr. hunxen deal with the thai and soon the news from soy sapheap will fade away and more thai soldiers will fill up the region. And khmer will lost this land for- ever. If dr. hunkvak really want prah vihear for sure, he will take to case to the UN-court and voice for golbal help to protect from the aggressor, such as the Thai as an example. I know Dr. hunkvak dare to only to khmer innocent he is nothing but a donkey with a lion skin..

Time to understand, you Thai have lost almost your superpower allies. The world know more and more about the background of the conflicts and the Thai imperialist character to the neighbors.
Please be patience and wait, who will have more moral supports.

Do you think the US will be stupid enough to engage in another war with Vietnam (lessons must not learned well).

The US already has too much trouble around the world it can handle.

If war erupts, Bangkok will collapse, so will Phnom Penh, and the US will support the Thai indirectly. Of course, this time, Mr. Kiss ass (Kissinger) will not involved in the theater--power to the Cambodia people. Also, the Hun Sen's regime will inevitably change as well.

1:43 PM, what's about yourself then? You are not even close to him.

It is hard to wage a war against a giant country like Thailand. However, international coomunities do not close their eyes. Our kindness would bear fruit soon or later. We repect the agreements and international laws, while they do not.

Waging a war with Thailand would involved VN helps. But, the ending results would be that half of the country each will be occupied by both countries.

I think, therefore, our commanders in the field fully understand that. Give them our moral support is that what our soldiers want.

For a war with Thais or Siems, we Khmer descents are ready.

"Khmer descents", are you sure they are ready? Are they ready to kill Phnom Penh Khmers? What I've heard are that we were weakened by our Khmers, the traitors.

it's just a concern.

A Message To Our Soldiers at the front,

Since the beginning of the standoff, we have clashed with Thai troops a few times during which we had inflicted more casualties on their side. However, we must remain extremely prudent with our tactical manoeuvrings and strategies. Beware that the Thai commanders have meticulously studies those clashes to assess our fighting skills, tactics and strengths, and to better prepare their troops for future hostilities. This can be observed through the troop and material re-enforcements that the Thai recently made.

Remember mobility and terrain knowledge are our main advantages. Do not resist direct assaults, instead adopt evasive manoeuvrings for counter-attacks. Know the terrain like you know the palm of your hand. Deceive the enemy to pre-established positions and annihilate them with mortars or other close-range artilleries. Anti-personal landmines continue to be our effective weapon to deter enemy intrusion or slow down their movements. Use these landmines wisely and effectively.

We have complete and utmost confident in your ability to defeat the enemy and safeguard our sovereignty. May God bless and protect you all for your unwavering patriotism. May our nation be for ever grateful for your unparallel service.

… end of transmission.

These conventional Thai soldiers using modern weapons against our BRAVE modern Khmer soldiers with conventional weapons (that is,
B-40s and AK-47s are weapons of choice -- of course, yet very lethal)will crush the invaders at any given time.
