Vegetables exported to Cambodia daily [- Cambodia's overdependence on Viet's veggies]

04/24/2009
VOV News (Hanoi)

The An Phu district in the southern province of An Giang exports about 70-120 tonnes of vegetables a day through its border gate to Cambodia.

Nguyen Van Thao, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in An Phu district said that currently it can only meet 20 percent of the Cambodian market’s demand.

The district has resecered a 600ha area in Vinh Truong and Khanh Binh communes for growing vegetables.

The designated area will ensure the constant supply of vegetables toCambodia even during the rainy season. Farmers in the district can produce between 3-7 crops a year to meet export demands.

Dear Government of Hun Sen Youn,

Recently Khmer farmers produces a lots of agriculture products such as mangoes, soy bean, green bean, cassava, banana, papaya etc..but there is no direct or destination market.

RGC just allow Youn and Siam to import everythings to Cambodia. The trade between Cambodia and Youn and Siam is imbalance. Youn and Siam do not allow Khmer's products to import to their market even paddy and corns.

RGC have make reconsideration of trade strategies.

Khmer saves money for Youn and Siam.

what i don't understand is why cambodia cannot do the same like growing vegetables, etc and sell to the tourist and local industry like viets are doing? maybe it goes to show people aren't use the abundant natural resources they have in cambodia like waters, agricultural lands, or perhaps too the lack of idea or invention and so on. this is why cambodia needs to wake up and see the world. look, cambodia should not depend on viets for vegetables or any other daily necessity like food and so on. how pathetic can that be! what is wrong with growing vegetables in cambodia than sell them to viets for a change? go figure!

sounds so one-way! where is the bilateral benefit in trade? khmer say if those neighboring countries don't allow khmer exports of produce or whatever, then we should reconsider not to allow their import into cambodia either. what goes around comes around, you know. let's be fair in a market world! don't be so bias with cambodia, otherwise, we will be biased against youn and siem in return. cambodia demand fairly in trade!
