Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has decided to relocate Kor Muy and Prasat villages near the 900-year-old Preah Vihear temple, national television station Bayon reported on Tuesday.
The government will provide over 4,500 hectares of land around 10 km away from the previous sites for the 792 village families to build houses and farm, it said.
The Prasat village was totally damaged by rocket fire on April 3, when Thai and Cambodian troops had fire exchange there.
Kor Muy has to be moved, because it is situated within the conservation area of the temple.
The Preah Vihear temple will be the second largest tourism destination of the kingdom in the future, right after the Angkor Wat temple in Siem Reap province, Bayon quoted villager Ken Kan assaying.
"As we know, the government will develop the land near the temple into a tourism complex," he added.
The Preah Vihear temple became a World Heritage Site of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in July 2008.

why didn't the Hun Sun gov't ask the Thais' to compensate for the property damage Thai solders caused to the villages and the market? The Thai soldiers destroyed our properties intentionally and must be legally responsible for their deeds.
Sadach Hunsen, you need to do something about this, won't you?
no need relocation because people are the real live border. they are the protecters of the land and not us from phnompenhm or elsewhere. if they are out how you guys- unesco persons, preah vihear authority, army, police, local authority, can have a good breakfast-kutiev cafe... other services. then the place becomes remote that no one can go to visit the temple and the thais want to take over. in addition, relocate people spend a lot to their benefit, efforts and money...
please reconsider this opinion and think deeply.
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen. Why? Why? Why? We are not suppose to move back. We need to move forward take our land back from the thief.
we must encourage people to live near the border because they are the live border. the government must give one moto, one tractor, two hectares of land, a wooden house and some consumer goods for a family who volunteer to live at the border.
the protected area should be limited to some extends but villages are included. not to let
the places very remote. the thais are living along the border more than our khmers are.
let our people live freely along the boder and do not chase them out. they are the real patriots and nationalists.
we need them to defend our land.
many thanks.
