The family of a heavily-pregnant woman who died in Pailin Hospital in March has received a $50 donation from Mrs. Chheang Mann and Phirum Maggie of California, USA. This is the fourth time that donors have donated to her family through Koh Santepheap.

The 37-year old Vorn Yoeum died after doctors at the hospital refused to conduct a Caesarean section on her because her husband did not have the 100,000 riels ($25) operating fees to pay the hospital.

Mith Rorn, her husband who is a disabled amputee, has the task of raising 7 young children on his own. He has no land to build a house or to farm to feed his children. His current hut is built on a neighbour's land who took pity of his family, but now the neighbour needs his land back. Now his burdens had been eased a little bit because four of his young kids had been taken and fed by Pailin Orphanage.

Mith Rorn said that he had kept all the donated money in a saving box and dare not spend it because he wanted to save enough money to buy a plot of land to build his house.

When receiving the donation from Koh Santepheap staff, Mith Rorn said: "I wish to thank all the donors very, very much for their generosity to help my family at this time of hardship."

Donations to Mith Rorn can be made through Koh Santepheap at: kohdaily@gmail.com

just don't let it happen again, though! sometime cambodia needs to get rid of that old-fashioned mentality that money can buy everything. not so true anymore in this day and age. i know some very very rich people who are always bitter about life and unhappy about life. now, how's that for having lots of money and not enjoy it? life's too long, you know. god bless cambodia.
