Hun Sen condemns the reactionary Lonnolians as being the cause of the destruction of Cambodia

Hun Sen condemned the republicans led by Lon Nol who perpetrated the military coup d’état that toppled Norodom Sihanouk in 1970, he accused them of being the source of the start of the destruction of Cambodia, and he also said that the genocidal Pol Pot regime was not the only one to bear the blame.
During the inauguration for the new Monivong bridge and the groundbreaking ceremony for a bypass bridge on 27 May, Hun Sen said that what was so pitiful was the destruction of the constructions built from previous regimes, in particular those built by Sihanouk’s Sangkum Reastr Niyum party when the then-prince was still leading the country, they were all destroyed by the Lon Nol regime and the genocidal Pol Pot regime [to which Hun Sen belonged to also].
Hun Sen said: “We shouldn’t place all the blame on the Pol Pot group alone for the destruction of Cambodia, but we also condemn the reactionary Lonnolians who perpetrated the coup d’état to topple Samdech Norodom Sihanouk, and they started the war all over the country.”
Hun Sen said that the massive bombing on Cambodia destroyed infrastructure in rural areas, pagodas, schools, bridges, roads were cut and even the Chroy Changvar bridge was destroyed [in fact by the KR and Vietcongs with whom Hun Sen sided with] during the 1970-75 war, and if there was no “reactionary treachery” on 18 March 1970, there would likely be no pitiful destruction that the Cambodian people suffered, along with the lost of several million of lives between 1970 and 1975, and also between 1975 and 1979.
Hun Sen declared that all the destructor groups should be condemned: both the Lon Nol regime and the Pol Pot regime [which Hun Sen belonged to]. “We, the CPP, stood up and we used our lives as the investment to liberate the people, liberate Phnom Penh, it was very pitiful when we entered Phnom Penh, there were no people at all, it was frightening,” Hun Sen boasted.
Hun Sen said: “We started, little by little, from using our lives as investment to liberate the country, to using our 2 palms to build the city, build the country while we were surrounded by injustice from outside, including that of the UN. We struggled to get up, little by little with one hand preventing the return of the genocidal regime, and the other hand resolving the hunger problem left by the Pol Pot genocidal regime, and we rebuilt little by little.”
In his speech, Hun Sen noted that when compared to the beginning of 1979, trips outside of Phnom Penh this year have almost doubled and that this truly shows that the Monivong bridge has now become two bridges. Hun Sen added that this construction is a show to everybody, including those who are partial, who do recognize the truth, who do not want to hear or know, or talk about the truth, every time they travel on this bridge [… but Hun Sen forgot to mention that the bridge was built with foreign aid, and the CPP did not contribute a single penny to its construction.]

I don't agree with you that Hun Sen is so dumb. Given such environment that he was raised, and the achievements (even though some are controvesial) he has reached today, this would reasonably prove that he is quite smart. However, the level of smart is still contentous depending on whom you want to compare to. If I compare him with his political opponents both inside and outside his party, he is still smarter.
You maybe confused with his IQ and his perception or conscience.

I am tired of reading the statement that Sihanouk gave permission to North Viet armies in to Cambodia.Please, be realistic ! The North Viet Armies did not need his permission, who was going to stop them ? Cambodian Armies ? Even the US armies and South Viet armies could not do that. You see what was happened when Lon Nol tried to stop them, they scatered all over the country.
If you beleif that Sihanouk gave permission to the North Armies, it sounds like he had alot of power that he can tell North Viet gov. what to do. Whatever Sihanouk claimed that he had a treaty or agreement with the North, it is just the formallity only, the bottom line is they can do whatever they wanted because they had bigger armies.
Another point reguarding th Thai army, if Cambodia Gov. do not get along with Vietname, the Thai would walk all over Cambodia by now. They know that Vietnam would step in and help Cambodia whenever it happened. That deosn't meant Vietnam love Cambodia but they do it for their own good.
You cannot rely on China to help Cambodia, only the good neighbore that can help you, if you play the card right.
