Cambodia could not ask for compensation from Thailand for border clash in April because the clash site is on the Thai territory, Thai Foreign Ministry's spokesman Tharit Jarungwat said.
The clash site is on Thai territory which was illegally occupied by Cambodian civilians, he said, adding the Thai authorities are lenient enough to allow them to do business there for the sake of good relations between the two countries and for humanitarian reasons.
Tharit was referring to Cambodia's demand for the Thai side to pay Bt69 million in compensation for damage allegedly caused by heavy weapons from the Thai army used during the border clash on April 3 near Preah Vihear Temple.
Cambodian Foreign Ministry Monday sent a diplomatic note to Thailand, asking for the compensation. It said the gunfire destroyed 264 stands at a market in front of the temple, affecting 319 Cambodian households.
The Thai foreign ministry will send a letter to Cambodia to reaffirm its stance on the issue, the spokesman said, noting that Thailand had earlier clearly asserted that the area in question belongs to Thailand.
Asked if Thailand would seek compensation from Cambodia for damage on the Thai side, the spokesman said the ministry's Department of Treaties and Legal Affairs is looking into the matters.

Cambodian government should consider for other options in dealing the border issue and compenstation with Thailand. Many lessons had been learned from Thailand since the beginning of the listing of the Preah Vihear temple. Talking with Thailand is not worthy and untrustful..! They are so chlidish..!

He knows nothing about history and he is not realistic. Look at the map which is recorgnized internationally. ........ One thing that i want to say that the more Thais dont respect the that land belonging to Cambodia, the more they look down their former king and government who agreed to sign a treaty......

when it comes to dealing with siem on preah vihear issue, i'm so sick and tired of all that goes on uselessly speaking. cambodia should serious look into taking this case to the international court of justice once again once and for all. thailand will be embarrassed and humiliated on the international scene when cambodia have to confront them with the entire world watching. otherwise, this silly "bilateral negotiation" or whatever is so far have shown useless. when will cambodia take thailand to the icj again so to settle this border problem once and for all. it's time, cambodia, wake up and take a different route to settle this issue for our nation and people. it means everyone should demand justice now, don't sit or stand around and wait for some individuals to take action, why not demand in the form of protest so gov't can take this case to icj again.
Make no mistake that the world court had rendered its decision regarding Preah Vihear in 1962. If Thailand refuses to pay for damages it has inflicted upon Cambodian civilians on Cambodian soil, Cambodia has the right to take Thailand to the world court once again. "Once a thief always a thief, mind as well pack all your belongings back to Nan Chao." Phnom Penh should ask the Thai embassy personel to leave...and shut the Thai embassy down for good!

Fourthly, to all Khmer abroad please bring back The Fourth Factions or Paris Peace Accord unity strategy models.In the early ninety the only Youn pullout from Cambodia because we Khmers had united. Back then king Seyhanouk had all the power, popularity and was incharged. Every body respected him from Khmer perspective and the international community perspective. If I were him I would use this power and popularity to declare to the world community that the Khmer people still under the supression, aggression of Youn and Seam. In doing so, his reputations and credibility will be installed next to the Great Khmer King Jayavarman VII.
In the case of Kampuchea Krom, if we use this exact models we Khmer will once again liberated Kampuchea Krom from the Youn iron grips.And possibly Khmer Krom can declare their independent or reannexed to Cambodia who knows.
