Thai Foreign Ministry on Thursday warned UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) that its officials and experts could visit disputed border area near Preah Vihear Temple only with the permission from Thai authority.
The warning was conveyed during a meeting between the ministry's Treaties and Legal Affairs director general Virachai Plasai and Unesco's chief of Information and Knowledge Management Unit Clive Wing.
The meeting on Thursday came as experts from International Councils on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) entered the area early April but Unesco's Assistant Director General for Culture Francoise Riviere informed Thai embassy in Paris about the mission on April 17.
The group of experts landed by a helicopter at the cliff from Cambodia site and entered to the building through the stair channel, according to a press statement issued after the meeting.
The group spent two hours there, it said.
Virachai said Thursday the ministry has informed the Unesco in March that only the main building of the Preah Vihear temple was inscribed as the Unesco World Heritage site.
The wider promontory, cliff and cave are not included so that the Unesco could not pass through these areas without Thai permission.
The Preah Vihear, ruled by the International Court of Justice in 1962, belongs to Cambodia but Thailand claimed its vicinity is under Thai sovereignty.
Unesco's Wing said Thursday the Unesco has been aware of the Thai concern and would be very careful about the conduct.
However he said the Unesco's Bangkok office has no detail about the work of the experts in April since the work is under coordination of office in Paris and Phnom Penh.

Kong Moeung
My beloved friend, Kong Moeung!
Please, stop aking Hun SenVarman to patriotically help us solving the confliction of Preach Vihear Temple, 'cause before the election the Siems did indirectly help him win the PM seat. If our gov't simply smarted enough, they should not primarily dealed with Siems, they should directly and professionally dealed with UN and Unesco. Now, it's still not too late!
Ah Kwak hun shit!
Next time if anyone wants to enter Cambodia....may be need permission from yuon and thai, because Cambodia already for sale!
HUN SEN is very incapable to lead Cambodia. He is lack of patriotism. He should be charged for treason and need to be hung.
He will be executed in near future.
KhmerJeayden,
My goodness! I'm glade I’m not Thai. They sure are shameless and not embarrass to show their greed.
I’m an outsider, but when I see Thai people and their leaders behave this way, I just…wow…what are they thinking?
I rooted for Cambodian
Thailand is a disgraceful nation.
They have no shame.
They wanted and insisted to the UNESCO about Prasat Preah Vihear Temple to share this with them?
No way!!!
I suggest that if UNESCO officials want to visit Thai Palace, they should ask a permission from Cambodian Government.
UNESCO must condemn the THAI to stay out of Cambodian's affair!!!!!!
Cambodian Town
Long Beach, Ca
Thai Government has interfered this matter against UNESCO, it was good benefit for Cambodian in the future.
New Phally
Go Thai !
It's the beginning of your end !
A strong feeling of displeasure of anger of GOD.Be ware the are four elements which the creator and the ruler of the universe CREATED.
1.wind(air) 2.Water 3.fire 4.earth
one of this element will be your judgement.I wish this never be the solution for this kind of matter.
May God protect my people and the Kingdom of Cambodia.Thank you lord!!!
Without one of these elements, our human being will die.
Down the enemy!!!!
Don't forget, one of the element will strike HUN SEN soon. Do you all know what that is??
I think Cambodian government should do the same, what Thai wrote a letter to UNESCO, by affirming that the UNESCO dest not need to ask permission from Thailand if they want to do something at the Preah Vihear site, because it is clearly belong to Cambodia, according to the map recorgnised by international and used by ICJ.
It would be lost benefit if Cambodian government does not do like this, because Thai will take this letter as the refference one day when there will be sue to the UNSC and ICJ.
Come on and stand up Hun Sen, if you don't want to be condemned and cured by the next Khmer generations.
preah vihear is cambodia's; don't need to ask thailand for any permission to enter the area. again, as for the surrounding area, thailand has no rights to any claim as that violates the international treaty or international law that governs official international borderlines based on the 1907 map already which icj had used in their 1962 ruling. stop dreaming, thailand. it's not yours and never will be! god bless cambodia.
The idea that something conveys to the mind of the four elements.
1.Air(tornado or twister) 2.Water(tsunami or flood) 3.Fire(thunder or asteroid) 4.Earth(earthquake)
GOD bless the Kingdom of Cambodia!!!
Could there be a posibility in the future in which a permission from Siamese need to be granted to any foriegners visiting Angkor Wat/Royal Palace/ Phnom Penh/any other provinces or even Samdech Hun Sen's House?
Siamese keeps on dreaming !
And wake up all Khmers!
We should ask all shameless siam citizen and its fucking bandit king to submit for visa to stay in Bkk as it is long long Khmer Empire....which spread up to Luanprabang.....so all fucking Siam and bandit king must be out or apply for permit to stay....hahaha
