Phnom Penh ranks last in "Most liveable city in SEA"

Most liveable city in SEA

SINGAPORE is the most liveable place in South-east Asia, according to survey of 140 countries.

It also ranked number 54, above New York in 56th place, as the world's easiest city to live in in the latest survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

In the survey which examined five categories - stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure - Singapore got an overall score of 88.5, with 100 being the ideal rating.

A score of 80 or more indicates that the city will have 'few, if any, challenges to living standards'. A city which scores 50 or less will present 'daily challenges to living standards'.

Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta were placed 79th and 123rd respectively.

One interesting fact the survey revealed was the stark contrast in the liveability among Asia-Pacific countries.

While three countries in the region - Australia, New Zealand and Japan - accounted for eight out of the top 20 cities worldwide, nine Asian countries took the 10 spots in the bottom 20 cities in direct polarisation.

Dhaka, Bangladesh fared the worst in 138th place, and among the Southeast Asian city, Phnom Penh, Cambodia ranked the lowest in 128th place.

'The performance of Asian cities reflects the diverse levels of development throughout the region,' said Jon Copestake, editor of the report.

'Australian cities represent many of the best aspects of liveability while instability in countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh means that cities in South Asia fare much worse,' he added.

Good news, this is to wake the government up, hope this could serve as a catalyst to a reform in land management.

Unsurprisingly, given the nature of a minority of the countries that are disproportionately and partially have negative sentiments toward the government and the country aided by negative semtiments for the assumed downtrend, which, in fact, very biased.

Given the imperfections of a minority of the countries that have proclivity for exaggerating, again, there's nothing to be surprised here. And I'm not squandering my (value) time to elaborate on this baseless survey.

PPU, I live in Phnom Penh and I love this city, but I do accept outside view and second opinion, this is the only way to improve ourselves. Tell me if in Phnom Penh you can park your luxurious car (probably you get one) outside home at night time? Every main cities in SEA,yes you can. Yesterday night the robbers tried to break the lock of my neighbour to get his old motobike with which he earns his daily bowl of rice.
PPU you are not a Khmer who loves your country but you are trying only to get your own interests and favours from your masters who run the country currently. Look, it is so ridiculous that you try to convince people that corruption is not significant in Cambodia. You know very well that the figure given by the US ambassador was under the reality. Your masters and their family and cronies enjoy so well this situation and they are ignoring the sufferings which are the consequences of corruption of the majority of your countrymen. Accept critism, and please do not use bad words. Shame on you as Kon Khmer to use the insults and bad words when you talk to your compatriots.
I am an old man, I was student at your universty 35 years ago, I cannot believe that you are a very bad offspring of our country like this. Please together we rebuild our nation!!!

Oh, come on, pal! Don't be so judmental about the city (and my country)where you're resding; also, it is a privilege to have you lived there -- not a right. Remember, it's a right and not a privilege.

Therefore, don't make your decision predicated on your negnative view, opinion, or feeling based on your ignorance. In fact, if you're discontent of your whereabouts, you're free to move around the globe; you do have a "freedom of movement."
