According to a quote of local news media by the Chinese news agency, Keat Chhon, the minister of Economy and Finance, said that the Cambodian economy will not be affected by the world financial crisis, and that in 2009, the economy will grow by about 7%.

Keat Chhon said that the government will provide $20 million to the Rural Development Bank to purchase rice from farmers for export. This measure will help maintain the price of rice for farmers, and it will also prevent contraband export of rice to neighboring countries.

He added that the government is preparing $1 million in fund for micro-credit lending by small familial-size enterprises.

Furthermore, Keat Chhon indicated also that $6.6 million will be spent for job training for about 40,000 factory workers who lost their jobs, especially for garment workers.

it doesn't matter how much economy is growing on the paper , as long as millions of people out there are still out of work and hungry and some of them even die by starvation , there is no good sign for the government to brag about it .
