The Cambodian government has on 9th June taken legal action against the biggest and pro-government newspaper in Cambodia, reports Deum Ampil.
According to Deum Ampil, Mr. Duong Loeung, a lawyer representing the government has lodged a lawsuit with the Phnom Penh Court against the Reaksmei Kampuchea Daily, Cambodia's biggest newspaper and ardent supporter of the ruling Cambodian People Party (CPP).
The reasons for the lawsuit against Reaksmei Kampuchea are not known as details of the suit have been kept secret with court officials refusing to give out the details and Mr. Duong Loeung cannot be contacted for comments. However, recently, the government has lodged a defamation lawsuit against Mr. Moeung Son, president of the Khmer Civilisation Foundation, in relation to his accusations that the government allowed the walls of Angkor Wat to be damaged when it ordered the installations of lights on the temple walls.
Mr. Sok Kalyan, the court deputy prosecutor, refused to say what the government was suing the newspaper about, but only said that the suit is a very complex case. He said: "I have not proceeded with this case yet. This suit is very complex and so I wish not to make any comments yet."
Mr. Pen Samithy, editor-in chief of Reaksmei Kampuchea, told Deum Ampil that he was not aware of the government's suit against his newspaper. He said: "I don't know anything...what do they sue us for?"
Sources close to the government said that the government did not sue the newspaper or the editor-in chief, but it is suing one of the newspaper's writers/reporters.
The same sources also said that another major broadsheet daily newspaper had also been sued by the government, but this news has not been made public by the government yet.
In recent weeks, the Cambodian government has taken a series of legal actions against many opposition politicians, executives of some NGOs as well as opposition newspapers, including the outspoken Khmer Mchas Srok daily.

Now it's time for peal si peal. After suing opposition newspapers and opposition politicians, it's time for the ruling CPP to try to kill one of it's strong supporters, the Reaksmei Kampuchea newspaper. I think Hun Sen's supporters pushed the Reaksmei Kampuchea to publish defamatory articles about Sok An and now Sok An is suing Reaksmei Kampuchea. Now the mistrusts between Hun Sen and Sok An have deepened. Just wait and see, these two will have an ignominious fallout very soon. Sok An will be sacked by Hun Sen soon.
Smoke screen...
Each episode has been set up and carried out according to plan...just as the Vietnamization of Cambodia is being fool-proofed to be business as usual to the outside word!!!
Where will you "Khmer" be a decade or in plain English 10 years from now???
Anybody...?
Ph.D from Hanoi
Think a little, man. I don't think Samdech Hun Sen will sack Mr. Sok An as easy as you think because everything is in Sok An's hand. You know Sok An holds all things tightly since the second term of the Royal Government. To fire Mr. Sok An, Samdech Hun Sen needs help from some of our great men such as Mr. Hor Namhong,Mr. Om Yin Tieng(he is a vietamese), and some more people from Hanoi Government. Can you guess whether Hanoi agree or not to sack the one they trust for many decades?
Samdech, my arse!
Cambodian government is being Chhkuort Chrouk hoeury ( insaned)for sueing everyone. It is time that each government member is about to go to mental health hospital for a full ckeck up. Ieng Theary who was Pol Pot wife was also insane and later died. That is what happening for government ministers who have committed too much of crmimes. At the end they all have mental problem. Anyone makes an illegal move, I will personally put them in Prey Sar, rest assured.

8:49am, you are right that Sok An holds things tightly since the second term of government. Sok An even has powers to command the Hun Sen bodyguard unit at Toul Krasaing. And I know that Hun Sen can survive and thrive this far because of Sok An's political astuteness.
But you must remember that, lately, Hun Sen started to resent Sok An becoming too powerful and he began to become distrustful of Sok An's ambition to be the PM, Hun Sen's job. In short Hun Sen is becoming suspicious of Sok An's loyalty to him and he doesn't trust Sok An anymore. The persons he really trust now are Om Yintieng, Hor Nam Hong and Khieu Kanharith. Now, Hun Sen thinks that he can survive and thrive without Sok An because he still has other smart or smart ass people like those three I mentioned above to give him good advice.
Remember, Hun Sen was lately not happy with Sok An about the Chinese-built headquarter of the Council of Ministers because Sok An's office was bigger than Hun Sen's. Hun Sen angrily ordered the closure of Sok An's cockfighting ring in Tonle Bati and he warned Sok An not long ago when Sok An distributed gifts to people and made a speech on national TV without mentioning to Hun Sen's name.
In short, Hun Sen is worried that Sok An is after his PM job. He is worried that Sok An will kick him out one day and take his job.
