State-run CPC Corp, Taiwan (CPC) said yesterday it was in talks to plant jatropha trees for biofuel in either Indonesia or Cambodia over the next six years.

The refiner is seeking to grow up to 50,000 hectares of jatropha trees as Taiwan aims to cut its reliance on fossil fuels and reduce carbon emissions, CPC vice president Arthur Kung told a media briefing.

Seeds harvested from jatropha trees yield oil used in the manufacture of biodiesel.

Jatropha is CPC’s preferred choice for biodiesel as it doesn’t compete with food crops, Kung said.

CPC may even sell the fuel in Europe, possibly pitting itself against BP PLC, Kung said.

CPC has planted 3,682 jatropha trees in Taiwan under a trial program, CPC said in a statement.

This is a very promissing investment. I initially thought of this investment too, but due to the insufficient knowledge, the idea has been put on hold. And now the Taiwanese grapped the opportunity before me.

Shame

Its way too late for the cpp to invest in anything. Their ways of curruptions is way too rooted in. Nothing they invested in is gonna bring in any profits !!!!!!!!!!!!

Planting the Jatropha is a good idea but actually many khmers are suffering of starvation. The good solution is to promote Khmers in agriculture with the training how to use the chemical fertilizer, as the majority khmers have a cancer and serious sickness of kidney, diabet or stomatch because the health ministry has no measure to prevent them. There is only corruption is a must.
