Ho Chi Minh had a dream to one day conquor Laos and Cambodia within 100 years. This dream of his has already been indoctrinated to each and every Vietnamese. Indochina Federation was an idea stolen from the French during the 1832 French Protectorate and it is known as French Indochina.
Ho Chi Minh believes that after World War II that he must do everything within his power to take Vietnam under his control and reunify his country into one nation and that was exactly what Ho Chi Minh has done. By the time France realized it is already too late, but no matter whatever the challenge presents to France might be, France will have to go to war against Vietnam in order to take back Vietnam and place it under their countrol. Because of this reason and this reason alone, the War of Dien Bien Phu came into the picture.
Ho Chi Minh only sees one way out from this hegemonized by the French, therefore, Ho Chi Minh went all over Asia recruting communist members and convinced them to fight with Vietnam for the purpose of pure Independence in Southeast Asia. That is how former Khmer Issarak members joined in the revolution with Ho Chi Minh and became known as Kampuchea Communist Party or (KCP). Vietnam and its agents have never respect those former KCP fighters as people, but as subject or slaves. If you really wanted to know, Sihanouk should be a prime example of how he has been betrayed by Pham Van Dung not to mention Ho Chi Minh.
During the Khmer Rouge took over Cambodia on April 17th, 1975, it was not a war fought by Khmer Rough, but a war fought by Vietnamese at the front line and when it is liberated, Vietnamese Commanders sent in the Khmer Rouge just for a show in order to manipulated Khmer people. Once everything fall into places Pol Pot who was also know as Saloth Sar changed his policy right away to chase out Vietnamese and its agents from Cambodia. This created a bad atmosphere between Khmer Rouge and Vietnam. But Vietnam knew that they had been used by the Khmer Rouge, however, Vietnam did get to reunify their own country, but continue to fight Khmer Rouge from behind the scene.
Within those time to which Cambodia was under Khmer Rouge control, argument began to stir around the country due to Vietnam relentlessly fighting with Khmer Rouge to put pressure on the Khmer Rouge to negotiate about the border dispute between Kampuchea and Vietnam, but Khmer Rouge has always rejected the idea of negotiating with Vietnam. In August 1979 I was in Phnom Penh and there was no Cambodian military body, but all were sent from Vietnam to reap in all what Cambodia has stored away by the Khmer Rouge during those three years, eight months and twentyone day. There were many trucks travelling east to Vietnam within the trucks were full of Cambodia belongings. Until this day, the celebration of January 7th, 1979 was never a day for remembrance, but the day when Vietnam invaded Cambodia.

Thanks very much for the story. I am a Khmer-Krom and heard the same story from my parents and some Viet friends told me, and from a Vietnamese newspaper. It has to be true to hear from the Viet's version of the story. I once read the same story from a Vietnamese overseas newspaper on this same story. The Vietcong leader who stole the most gold from Cambodia the during invasion was General Le Duc Anh. Le Duc Anh had a lot of Khmer blood on his hand. Le Duc Anh was brutal during his time in Cambodia. Today Le Duc Anh is still alive and an old Vietcong dog!
This story is too logical: from Champa Kingdom, to Kampuchea Krom, to Lao, and now Cambodia.
I think the only way to resist the Viet domination is EDUCATION--educate yourself and your children.
It'd be nice if your article supported with notes. It's not Ho Chi Minh's real intentions to take Indochina from French, it was Phan Bội Châu, Ho Chi Minh's god-father.
He went to Japan in 1905 and in Thailand in 1908 to settle a base of resistance to oust France from Indochina.
He was one of the first Vietnamese leaders who had asked helps from Japan and Thailand to free Indochina from France in exchange the "temprorary control Indochina" by Japan and the partition of Cambodia between Vietnam and Thailand.

I don't blame King Sihanouk who risked his life to save his nation. Cambodia's problem was so complicated, and not many of us Khmers understood the real problems.

Our code or unity must be restored by us new generation. I already lose hope with the old generation for a long times. They broke our hearts when you read them cursing our own people for the Viets. I never respond to them and never will.
Not worth it. Even the educated Khmers still believe the King betrayed his country not just th estupid ones. Not that they think it was strategy to lure Youn snakes out from its holes (Khmer kleihn klay) who lived among our people.
To them they see everybody are Khmers because Youn speak Khmers and born in srok Khmer and Khmer Krom kleinh Klay, but then they're Youn spies. I believed Youn're with us since the French time. And Youn like Phan Boi Chau planned to take Indochina, and I think the King and all high ranking men like Lon Nol knew about Youn spies hide among us.
Why not if the French owned Indochina and every body can move around, and the aggressive ones is Youn who infiltrated easily to Cambodia and Laos.

How? if the hypocrite ones always call for unity but they still curse and insult their own Khmers? The hypocrite are mostly the Khmer extremists.
Ly Ngoc Yiep/Diep is not our beloved HE Son San who truly fought to unite Khmers, Ly Ngoc Yiep is a Youn spy, he fights to disunite us. When we disunite, Youn and Siam always want to divide our land to two for themselves.
