Hun Sen Wants Youth Education Improved

In celebration of International Children’s Day Monday, Prime Minister Hun Sen said Cambodian needed to improve the quality of its education system.

“The quality of Cambodian education is low,” Hun Sen said in a speech. “We must push further toward paying attention to all children, especially providing opportunities for girls to have basic education for at least nine years.”

Education opportunities for girls remain low, the Ministry of Education says, and Hun Sen on Monday urged professional training to prevent the exploitation of child labor.

Rong Chhun, president of the Independent Teachers Association, blamed the government for failing to fulfill its obligations to child rights.

“Many children who do not have any education do some job just to find something to eat,” he said.

About 36 percent of the Cambodian population is illiterate, and around 40 percent of its students do not finish primary school. In May, UNDP called for urgent reform of the education system.

When government ask to increase the salary, Hun Sen said that there no money for that. This indicate that the Prime minister is incapable to deal with that problem. 15% increase in salary just only to compensate the high rate of inflation 18% or 2o%. So from one day to the next, the living standard of employees would be worst.

How can Hun Sen imrpove education in Cambodia if he can't even improve his own speech ? If you listen to him every time he is on the Microphone , sometimes he sounds so mean and rude and he curses too if he talks about people who oppose his idea. His education and his attitute don't fit to be Prime Minister .

i think all teachers' monthly salary should be at a minimum 100 dollars and up, depending on tenure, experience at the job, college degree, etc... cambodia have to think quality of teachers too not just trying to save gov't money when the economy is steadily rising or cost of living is rising. the salary should reflect the cost of living allowances. thank you.

Basic of education are the academic and the human studies.
Easier to have an academic level by online or internet but not a human study. The human study is very important for the future of a nation.
We sure able to upgrade the level of our national education same as before, in case we are ready to work all together.

You have the right to remain "ignorant," because you just don't get it.

Sorry, kid, I can't babysit you.

We value diversity, so does the U.S.? Do you have problems with diversity?

Can you imagine residing in the United States -- particularly in the ghettor neighbood where you live -- with lack of diversity.
