BANGKOK, July 27 (TNA) - Thai Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban ended his one-day visit to Cambodia on a mission to clarify Thailand's objection to the listing of the Preah Vihear temple ruins as a World Heritage Site to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.
Mr. Suthep told reporters on his arrival in Bangkok that he had met with the Cambodian prime minister and Mr. Hun Sen asked him to convey the message to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and the Thai people that Cambodia will try to ease tensions along the border to create the good atmosphere to foster the bilateral economic cooperation and good relations.
The deputy prime minister said both sides agreed that the previous incidents at the border, particularly near Preah Vihear temple, would be considered the past and like a nightmare ,and now the two nations should look ahead without looking back.
"I do not want to go in to the details but both sides affirm to jointly ease the border tension," the deputy prime minister said.
In 1962 the International Court of Justice ruled that Preah Vihear belongs to Cambodia, but the most accessible entrance begins at the foot of a mountain in Thailand, and both sides claim overlapping portions of the surrounding territory.
Armed clashes between the two countries’ military forces have occurred periodically since then, near the temple, especially in a 4.6-square-kilometre disputed area.
Thai prime minister Abhisit said earlier that the government would ask UNESCO's World Heritage Committee to review their last year's decision to register Preah Vihear as a World Heritage Site when the meet in Spain, during the week just ended.
During the one day visit, Mr. Hun Sen welcomed Mr. Suthep and Thai Defence Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan at his home and the prime minister’s wife cooked lunch for the Thai guests.
Mr. Suthep said the talks were conducted in a friendly atmosphere as the two nations shared the same target -- to build a constructive bilateral relationship and strengthen economic cooperation.
Thailand and Cambodia agreed to move ahead with plans to build Stung Nam dam in Cambodia's Koh Kong province to supply electricity to Thailand's Trat and Chantaburi provinces, particularly to the Map Ta Put Industrial Estate, he said, adding that the project had been discussed by many governments but had not materialised.
The government, therefore, will re-launch the project, Mr. Suthep said.
Both sides will jointly develop the overlapping area in the Gulf of Thailand in order to share benefits from the undersea natural gas field, he said.

This Thai Suthep Thongsuwan sweet talked Hun Xen again. Just like another sweet Thai music. It appears that Hun Xen has a soft heart for Thai aslo. Beware that Thai are sneaky. Thongsuwan is trying to show UNESCO that Hun Xen is listening to his objection to listing Preah Vihear as World heritage. Cambodia should not agree to any other deals with Thailand until the Thai recognizes common border areas and withdraw from Khmer land.

Very good comment 12:32 AM, I totally agree with you.
New Phally
thai suthep look down on present Cambodia and the UNESCO.Since 1962 why thai start to echo their voice now.
Please PM of Cambodia be careful when dealing with hyena.
Guy,
Just like i use to say! at the end they both agree with each other! they just screwed us left and right that's all! if Hun Sen dosen't agree on 4.6km/joints new development, why Thai decide to withraw? i use to say, i don't like this private meeting? They both just playing games flip/flop...
I am sorry for Cambodian prime minister,he should leaving this position go to farm with the modern equips which he has too much money to buy that, and also his natural skill and leave the jobs to the next generation to replace his others he going to loose with the Thai all this son of the bitch Thai got well train from national and international to trick you Hun Sen.
It doesn't matter you win or you lose at this time but they look at you Hun Sen as the trash fro Stung Mean Chey so you must change your tact to fight or you will get WAR unavoidable
4.16km2 = 4160 ha is much far less than 100,000 which Hun sen has sold to Vietnam for rubber plantations in Ratanakiri and Kg Thom.
If Hun Sen dare to sell 100,000, why can't he sell again this 4160 ha to Thais to keep peace and his family would benefit from all of them.
One day, all Cambodian will be Hun Sen commodities. He can sell them or keep them of his choice. He can sell them to Taiwan, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand in the name of working overseas scam.

"Concession" and "Selling" is not the same. Do not make yourself like a CONFUSED nation.
(12:32 AM): Good comments. I agreed. Politics is politics, but politics does not spill blood is the best. Thais can't be trusted. Thay can never win us if PM uses the existing mechanisms i.e. laws and/or accords to solve the problems while keeping the foreign nations informed on any developments with this country. It would make things easier to the convence the US public (assuming that They would seek help from US should it be a war) to support us or international communities against the agressors.
Surya
Dear Surya,
You must understand that people who have gained concession needed to pay for their right and then they can sell to others.Areak prey
Hi Areak prey: that's not true. I had worked for a concessionnaire. Concession grants a right to manage lands for specific purposes as stated in agreements within a certain period of time. The problem is when a concession holder was removed for violating agreements, powerful people take that lands and sell. We have experiences that. For examples: when forest concessions were cancelled, the number of land encroachments have sharply increased.
Surya
Dear Surya,
You have contradicted yourself with the problem when a concession holder was removed for.... that lands and sell.
-First that concession lands will be sold it leases to foreigner companies for 99 years. Can I ask you that how many people can live up to 99 years of age?
-Who can find justice for the people who have lost their lands through these lands concession?
-After 99 years, where these lands will go to such as for vietnamese army? You need a warfare to fight with them to remove them out?
-Lands concession to Yeay Phu are being sold to Wuzishan comany of China, So Kong Triv, Ly Yong Phath, Kok An, Mong Rithy etc.. How many people outside of CPP can gained these lands concession right? None
I knew that army lands in Kg Trayoung NR no 4 have sold to Chhing Hai religion in 1994 by through an agent from Pailin Hotel.
Did you that? there are a lot of dealts you won't know at all.I am a businessman, therefore I know about business dealing. No moneys, no dealt, OK
Areak Prey
Thanks for sharing your stories.
Again, leases and sell are not the same. If I were a businessman like you, I would not think about short-term benefits, otherwise I would be just the same "take and run" people or corrupted officials.
Personal feelings can't solve the problems. Dictatorship use personal feelings as basis for decision making. Everything should be based on the laws or constiution. bad and good officials exist in every government. Law enforcement is the difference. There are deep rooted relation among leaders in Cambodia, which can't be easily removed. However, as those old guys might not live longer, new young leaders are emerging, and therefore law enforcement will be on their agenda ...
Again, if Khmer constitution allow the sales of Khmer land to other nations, Singapore, US or Japan can easily annexed Cambodia.
I know our neighbors have changed their strategies from being direct invasion to this kind of land concession. They could only achieved this if we (young generations) are stupid. They might not be able to do in the next 10-20 years. During this period, some old guys would die.
Yep! it's all about money these day, Thailand shut Hun Sen' mouth with Big dollar sign$$$$, now he's quiet and stop running his stinky big mouth! remembered he was really tough 2-3 day ago? now Mr. macho man is quiet....all the dollar sign$$$$ flying all over! ok let's us joints hands!
This is why our lands keep shrinking everyday!
Thailand has said very clearly, they will occupy 4.6km lands, and they will not withraw their troops, i think you guy may be right! Hun Sen properly agree with Thailand" big dollars$$" Thailand had done this trick in the past, remembered SIAMESE threw the money called "PRAK DOUNG", THE STRONGEST KHMER ARMY BASE WAS DESTROYED BY THAI ARMY! because of the money!! i think Thai repeated this tricks again....
Is this just to protect Hun Sen's and Sok An oil field in gulf of thailand?
At least most of us understood very well that Thais will use dollars to trick Hun Sen for this 4.16 km2. To us every inch needs to be protected. But a greedy and ignorance person, he interests only with dollar because the land was not belonged to his parents. It is Cambodia problem. I knew very well about the different between lease and sell. But the land concession onwers have sold their lease to foreigners because foreigners cannot buy land in Cambodia under the consitution. But after they have bought lease for 99 years, they will stay there for 99 years. The most problems are that Cambodian people cannot supported themselves because no land left for them to work. Therefore, they have immigrated to neigbhour countries. Cambodian in Cambodia will become minority in their own country. Areak Prey
1:31 Any starving persons in Cambodia would agree with you that the idea of leasing national property to foreign investors is giving up land resources slowly, leaving farmers no land for growing rice. At the end of the 99th year, properties (lands) would presumably be returned to Cambodian govt. By then, most farmers would have long gone.
Dear Poster 12.30am
You must open your eyes and look around Cambodia and do not just look at a few lucky one in Phnom Penh. Cambodian has more than 60% of poverty. Beside of Phnom Penh Residents 80% of Cambodian people cannot even afford to have clean and safe water to drink. 40% of land have been fenced off by these so called land concessions for land speculation. A opporunities for businesses to generate National economy have also damaged by greedies individuals to increase their price to make Cambodia to loose competativeness with neighbour countries.
Eg If I have US$ 1000 and I go to China, I can have very well spent over there. But if I come into Cambodia, it last me only 5 days only for foods and accommodations. These are the reasons, Cambodia cannot be riched for wanting to get rich too fast. The same time we cannot compare the luxuary and security between China and Cambodia. Areak Prey
