Cambodian officials admit corruption exists within Cambodia, but they say damning assessments made by the US embassy are biased and unfounded.
US ambassador Carol Rodley said recently Cambodia loses five hundred million U.S dollars every year to corruption. Cambodia's foreign ministry has rejected the claims, calling the statement "politically motivated and unsubstantiated".

No one country in the world is free from corruption, but the thing is that the leaders of those countries have tried to reduced corruption. I rember the speech by former US ambassador to Cambodia, Joseph Mossomeli, who spoke at the public event in Kratie on January 22, 2008 that " No country in the world is free from corruption. In the US about 5000 officials go to the prision every year for committing corruption. " So the diference between Cambodia and the US is that given the high level of corruption, no Cambodian official go to the jail for committing corruption.
