On Friday 19 June, the Cambodian National Assembly (NA) decided to delay the agenda for the meeting to suspend the parliamentary immunity of SRP MP Mu Sochua. The meeting was delayed to next week because there was not enough meeting time left.
Mrs. Mu Sochua, who was also present during Friday session, said that her immunity suspension will take place on Monday 22 June. Mrs. Mu Sochua indicated also that she will not be present during this upcoming session because she has to attend a function overseas.
Nevertheless, she said that she is asking all MPs to give her time to provide clarifications on this issue first before they decide to suspend her immunity.
Mrs. Mu Sochua said: “I am confident that all the MPs will ask Samdach President of the NA (Heng Samrin) to hold a wide open discussion so that the voters understand and actually know the reason why a MP saw her immunity suspended. Since I am the one facing this immunity suspension, I should, at least, have the rights to discuss this issue and I hope that other MPs also want to listen to the cause first before they decided to vote to suspend my immunity or not.”
The NA planned to hold the session to suspend Mrs. Mu Sochua’s immunity on 19 June so that the court can question her in regards to Hun Sen’s counter-lawsuit against her for defamation. Hun Sen sued Mrs. Mu Sochua after she held a press conference where she indicated her plan to sue Hun Sen for defamation for the speech he gave in Kampot.
Mu Sochua added: “Samdach PM [Hun Sen] already declared that he acknowledged he did make these statements. In fact, he confessed to it! But, he did not name any name. Looking at everything combined, and considering that Samdach [Hun Sen] said that he wanted to provide a lesson to one woman, altogether, [that woman] was me. Therefore, Samdach [admitted] to making the statement, and when he replied to the deputy prosecutor, he again said that he did make the statements. Therefore, adding one and one together, what is the court waiting for? My [lawsuit] case [against Hun Sen] has all the proofs, but the court dismissed my case. So we want to know which side the balance of justice is tipping to? [The answer:] it is tipping toward Samdach PM [Hun Sen].”
Recently also, national and international communities have reacted to this issue, they said that the plan to lift Mrs. Mu Sochua parliamentary immunity is part of ruling CPP party’s threat against the opposition parties.

I am not worried by the threat from CPP to remove your immunity, Madam. I think they are just playing game that both side earn something.
Madam, you make your name as woman struggle for rights, liberty and democracy, while Hun Sen is making name in being strong man of Cambodia.
Honor degrees are waiting for both of you and you know you are in this game all along.
Bravo Madam, and Bravo Hun Sen
The Parliament/Assembly is doing the right thing by not pursuing with the process. PM Hun Sen would score a big political brownie point if were to come out and say let's forget about all this and move on with other important national issues. It would be a face-saving for both.
From the beginning, this [defamation issue] was a non-issue. It became a "oh she is standing up to a tyrant" or a "CPP courts and Bar Association are not independent." It only takes Hun Sen's words saying "let's move on.." to erase all of this.
I don't about that 1125pm.
Only a gangster could humiliate a strong Lady like that.
Oh well , Hun Sen already admitted he is not a gentleman, but a gangster.
"srey cheung khlaing, mouk krass, robaut lev auv khluon aeng thah keh sangkruoub..." come on, people says that all the time...
Why make this into a lawsuit and counter-lawsuit. with parliamentary immunity removal threats flying all over??? It is a very small, irrelevant subject.
Mrs Muchua's lawsuit should be follow through first so that the truths will be revealed. I don't how Hun Sen can file a counter lawsuit without the verdict. This is Cambodia justice system; reality speaks for itself. Everyone knows...except a few the CPP yes men and his prime dog. The future of the nation is at steak because of these few people.
The law was put in place for everyone to follow--not disrespect it. Also, prostituting while legislating is against the law, and consequently one must pay the ultimate price for their failure to obey the law. Therefore, the measure is impartial and just.
